Fighting Games Weekly | July 22-28 | Life's A Beech

The guy in charge of fighting games at Capcom USA has said on numerous occasions to the public that the UMVC3 team is disbanded and the developers are working on other titles. If there is a patch, it won't be for a long ass time.
It's a good thing we are preparing ahead of time, then. It wouldn't make sense to discuss this stuff when the patch is actually being implemented. ;-)

Viscant isn't always right, but he is smart. He gets what's going on in the game. I've never heard anything theory-related from Alukard. I don't even care which one is the better player. Understanding the game on the theoretical level and understanding it on the practical level are two different skillsets. Theoretical understanding requires an open and creative mind to see how changes would work contextually, which most top player's don't have. Hell, no one who even makes the games we play is great at them, but they still turn out great, more or less.

definitely how I see it as well.

At least to me, Unknown hasn't carried/shown himself well enough for me to want to really watch his stream.

None of them are worth watching streams for. I watch because I want to see play, not because I want to see any one person play, lol.

Ok this is a legitimate change. Storm should be able to chain st.L into st.H.

Is he supposed to get nerfs?
There is controversy over Iron Man getting Magneto style tri dashes. It would definitely be too good but no one is asking for that high of a speed. Also even though IM and Nova have same mobility style, IM does not have Nova's j.H nor does he have his ground dash nor does he have his slide.

That was a long time ago (more than 6 months) and this happened

So it's not just a pipe dream
It's not a pipe dream if you continue to ignore the countless logistical problems that would need to be overcome for a Marvel patch to happen.

And because they didn't set up anything official for suggestions tells you how casual that comment was from Ono, and how much his "tell us what you think" comment was akin to every single other comment of the sort we've received in the past.

It's not happening.

EDIT: Fanatiq says "there's only 4 of us now" ..does that mean he's still on AGE?

Did you actually watch the panel where they say that? I did. They made it pretty damn clear that it's not a priority because of the pain in the ass getting the Marvel license again would be. Why would they need Marvel's approval for a simple patch? Don't ask me, but they consistently cite it as one of their reasons for having nothing in the works for Marvel 3. Ono may think it needs a patch, but it's not like they can just start working on it. He has to first convince Capcom JP that it'd be something worthwile and then deal whatever other bureaucracy Capcom has.

Max is right.

But what makes more sense for fans? To be jaded, or to show Capcom our love and support?

I'm not sure how all this constant patch talk is any different from the last year or so of constant patch talk.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for people having fun discussing it, but I don't see how all that much has really changed with half an announcement or a hint of maybe something happening.

The difference is that we're actually making a united community patch to share with Capcom this time. Maybe it won't make a difference, but I would rather do it and have it not make a difference than not do it and miss the opportunity to voice my opinion.

Two things:

1) Here's a list of all the people who have made Top 32 in Marvel 3 at Evo in 2011, 2012, and 2013:

Justin Wong
Filipino Champ
Chris G
Flocker
Viscant

What a fraud he is, eh?

2) NRS players are such bros.

Maximo Figuereo
‏@VSM_Maxter
@PerfectLegend @AlexValleSF4 @MK_CDjr I wouldn't have Shown my chest, and I Lift bro, showing your Ribs because of winningaVG tourneyisnoOG

I'm confused by united? You mean from Neogaf?

He didn't make top 32 in the previous EVO. You can blame it on his shit ass team.

My opinions on the Marvel patch: Capcom asked the community to talk about and we are. That's it. As a fan of the game and a member of its community, I feel I have to at least do this and do this right.

2012. Lost to Rynge in pools and lost to Taekua in the match to make Top 32. http://evo2012.s3.amazonaws.com/brackets/mvc3_m8.html
Impressive! I feel like we need FGC baseball cards.

Like I said, I'm all for that and find the discussion interesting (in the OT). But it isn't like groups such as FGTV haven't been doing this for a long time.
I tweeted our system changes to ShadyK, and he RTed it. I plan on sending our stuff all over the internet to try and get as much support as possible.

Now I see why Alukard is salty. He just wants Iron Man buffs... that's all he wants.

Iron Man should get buffs. Tons of them.

- flight cancel ability like morrigan
- at least 2 new moves*
- better dashes, faster recovery
- more health
- give double jump back
- Increase range of repulsar blast
- more damage or quicker start up/recovery on unibeams
- Fix his hypers so he's not getting punished ON HIT. (Yes, some characters can punish IM after being hit by proton cannon, smh) so Faster startup/recovery here as well
- angled projectile of some kind
- give smart bombs their trajectory control back ala MvC2
- Give knee press from MvC2 back (but make it look cooler)

* tons of stuff to choose from here --- A homing missile, wrist lasers, a melee move or command grab, wrist rockets, a straight down smash move from the air, angled hand beams down diagonal from the air (similar to Doom) or up diagonal from the ground (similar to Cyclops from MvC2)

Anyway, that's the short list, he needs a ton of buffs. In this game with Magneto, Storm and Doom, there is really no reason, I mean literally, ZERO reason to ever play Iron Man. That's just not right imo.

edit:
Fix is launcher, incredibly stupid that it whiffs all the time and I had to learn certain combos just so I could get the launcher to hit at the end of it. Iron Man requires so much work and it's all for a shit return.

edit2:
old but true

I went into it a little last week you can do some research about Marvel and it's intensely hand-on licensing practices.

If one company licenses something from another- the licensee has nothing to lose. Marvel is guaranteed money [big money, when it comes to marvel and its properties] no matter what, as well as a percentage of sales and usually other allowances.
Often, when it comes to big corporate licensing of things- the company licensing things out doesn't care very much. So long as the products adhere to some basic rules, they don't care. Guaranteed money, exposure of the brand, etc.

Marvel likes to be involved. As an entity they have full creative control over all of its IPs and it's 100% up to them how every aspect of their IPs are represented in-game.
If they wanted Magneto to shoot fishheads instead of beams, Capcom would have to comply, not include Magneto, or argue for a long time across a board room.
Marvel wants this- Capcom wants this and they have to eventually meet somewhere in-between where both parties are somewhat satisfied.

If Capcom wants to touch anything involved with the Marvel IP, they will need to re-negotiate their agreement, guarantee Marvel more money, go over every proposed change to make sure it's 'ok' in a broad sense [involving more lawyers and more money] and go into all kinds of hassle.
Even if it involves minor game tweaks and balances that only change internal aspects- Marvel needs to be involved and given a bunch of money just for the fact that it's 'their stuff'

TLDR Example Boardroom Sequence

Capcom- 'We would like to do a game update'

Marvel- 'Most excellent, here is our flat fee needed -and how much more revenue should this generate as far as the projected percentage we can expect in additional sales of the video-game?'

Capcom- '....Not much? We are doing it due to fan requests and to give back to the community that supports the game.'

Marvel- 'Ah. Then our guaranteed fee will need to be increased exponentially as there would be far fewer residuals.'

Capom-'... and how much-'

Marvel- ' A million zillion trillion dollars.'

Capcom- '.....'

Marvel- 'In silver dollars and holographic doubloons.'

The more noise, the more likely Capcom is to pursue it.

That Marvel was easily the most watched game of Evo, and probably the most hype, with Ono in attendance? Can't hurt either.

Obviously there's licensing issues that make it really difficult, but there's probably more chance now than there has been since Ultimate dropped.

Impressive! I feel like we need FGC baseball cards.

I feel like for the biggest tournaments, there should be a "statistician" of sorts on each commentary team who's at a computer looking up background information on the players and on matchup history that he can then feed to the commentators.

I tried to feed info to the commentators whenever I could during UFGT, like where the players were from and when they had faced before, etc. (If you ever heard or saw the commentators stop talking for a moment to listen to what some random person was saying, that random person was probably me.)

At Evo, PR Balrog played Kerahime on stream in Marvel quarterfinals, and I deeply regret not running up to the commentary desk in order to mention that Kerahime holds the World Record for Donkey Kong Country any% with a time of 8 minutes, 35 seconds.

This is excessive and half of this stuff isn't required.

It'd make him a good character but still no where near Vergil or Zero level.

I mean, if there are characters like them in the game, why can't other characters be just as powerful, have just as many cheap fair moves, have just has many number of moves, have that many mobility options, ect...

Iron Man needs as many buffs as possible. I'd rather they break him, then tone him down in a patch then give him a bunch of worthless shit. Without a major overhaul that character will forever be worthless. (see Magneto, Storm, Doom, + others who do everything he does only vastly better in every conceivable way)

Also, 1 last buff -- change his stupid "excuse me!" saying when he comes in. It sounds horribly, horribly, terribly, stupid.
