Dragon's Crown Thread of Import Impressions and Elf

Their character overview. They said that the amazon has too low hp for a melee character and the risk for using the character is too high.

Which I find fucking hilarious with how fast and strong she is.

She's a high risk, high reward character with a mechanic that makes her stronger and faster as she hacks away. She needed SOME kind of downside.

I've got the US version, but so far extremely enjoying the game the first 60 minutes or so. I can't go on about my full thoughts till the embargo review date which is July 31st but so far, extremely pleased. Will post some more basic impressions later.

This reminds me of the people that said Phoenix was too weak day 1 because she died instantly and "it's too hard to get five bars"

It's like cmon man you've been playing the game for a few hours why are you already ranking characters

Well, the art book is still listed as a pre-order bonus on Gamestop's website, so I don't see why you wouldn't get it if pre-ordering.

I'm thinking like most of Atlus recent preorder bonuses it'll be packaged with the game

Amazon doesn't list it as a bonus on their site but mentions it in the features, which to me suggests it's more of a first print run kinda thing than a preorder promotion

Please do! Looking forward to reading them.

Joshin for me, probably. It all depends on if the Joshin across the street from my apartment has copies, I guess.

My games shipped one from each retailer, and with different carriers. It's a race to see who gets theirs to me first!

I can't sleep though, so tomorrow probably won't be a fun gaming day.

I know this isn't cross buy, which sucks, but is it cross play? Vita version makes the most sense; however, I'm leaning towards PS3 for ease of extended play and comfort.

No cross buy or cross play, IIRC. Only cross save. Needless to say, many people were disappointed.

Man, still got the rest of this week and and a whole other to wait though for this game but its gonna be so worth it!

idk I do it all the time :P But then again I like to think I'm really good at identifying things like that XD at least at a base level.

Ooh, awesome. Hope you'll be doing a video review. Your videos are great. :D

I heard character stats are based on host game. Is that true? That would be EXTREMELY disappointing if so.

That's probably true for local play

but that'd make zero sense for online play. I meant he whole point of the game is to level your own character

So..if I main a Fighter and I get my gf to couch co-op with me and main a sorceress, I cannot take that already leveled sorceress as a main for online play later on?

You should be able to. All leveling locally will be your save. If I understand it right, it would be no different from you playing Sorceress instead of fighter as your main for a level or two.

But I have reading comprehension issues. I could be completely mistaken. :P

OK...yeah, something seems lost in translation about the level sync for couch co-op. Maybe they just mean alternate chars are scaled down or up to whichever char is on P1.

What does that mean exactly? Only the 1st player can customize his character in couch co-op and the other ones have "generic" characters?

I really hope the game holds out through the whole campaign. I love Vanillaware games but they often get so boring after a while that I can't even bother finishing them.

Yeah that's another reason I'm waiting for impressions. I want it to be good because the art is beautiful.

What? That blows. My wife and I were looking forward couch co op.

What's wrong then?

I'm assuming your wife lives with you. So you'll both have access to both your characters on the same system. No issue since that's probably how you'll always be playing with each other.

The only way this is problematic is if you plan to play with someone both online and locally, as there doesn't seem to be a way for someone to bring their character from another account on to your system to play locally.

They just have to use your characters at your house. (and vice versa, they won't be able to play online with you with the character they leveled at your house as it's on your save)

but I figure for most people it's going to be one or the other, so it's not that big of a deal.

That was how I read it. Maybe that isn't the case?

If we both have individual customized characters that we only play with each other on the same account, that is fine. But if only one of us gets to customize and level, etc. That it's extremely disappointing.

the whole local thing isn't clear but i would imagine you both can play a character you designed, they are both just part of the same save thus you couldn't easily bring your character to a friends house to play your character while they play theirs locally.

the question I have for importers though, are you able to have multiple characters of the same class... aka can i have 2 elves going with different builds if I wanted (or for co ops sake could both myself and my wife play the same class at the same time and build them up differently and save them both so we can continue them next time)

The only way that makes sense is if local play is a different mode from the online game, where you don't gain experience and just use characters you built from the online mode. (I do recall there being a distinction between an online quest mode and an "arcade" local mode)

If that ends up being the case that will pretty much destroy my interest in the game

What it means is that you can't log in with individual accounts. All save data will go into the account of the person logged in as P1. But you can still customize characters and such during local play. There was a 4gamer video posted from Evo that showed local play and there was an option for "Create new" in the select profile player slot. But there were already a bunch of characters that Atlus had created previously so that people could jump right into playing. So even when you go online you could select a character that someone from your local co-op sessions was playing with.

This is the quote:
Atlus answers that during the PlayStation 3 version’s local play, the game will be based off the host’s data, so you won’t be able to play using your own characters; however, the PlayStation Vita version will allow you to do so through Ad-Hoc play.

I think this just means that the game is based off of the host system's save data, so you can't access your character from home via an online network (i.e. no World of Warcraft type logging in to your account from another location). The data is all locally saved. I don't think it means you can't each have your own character.

How does the game look/run on the Vita? Good?
I shouldnt be worried about something like this as the Vita should be more than capable but weird things ten to happen so I thought Id ask.

Oh! That's perfect then. Thanks!

This whole local save thing is confusing me. I intended to play this with my boyfriend (couch coop) and with a friend who lives in Hawaii (online), but not necessarily always at the same time. Basically sometimes I'd want to play only locally, and if my friend comes online he could join us.

Will we be able to do that with each our own customized character, or not? :\

From how I read it, yes.

"Their character overview. They said that the amazon has too low hp for a melee character and the risk for using the character is too high."

Ehhh, that's not really what they said though, simply that it is a low health character compared to the other melee classes, seems to be the trade off for significantly better mobility/speed. Not unlike "squishy" high damage/mobility melee classes in most RPGs.

Man, I really wanted to get this for the Vita, but no cross-play makes it a no-go. I just don't see the Vita community for the game being nearly as large and available as PS3, and I don't see what the Vita version would be offering as a fair compensation or trade-off.

Ok. But then suppose we use my PSN account for our local coop. Now, if my boyfriend wants to play solo on his own account, he wouldn't have access to his character? :\
That I do not know, but it tends to go that way on the PS3 in general. It's just an account to sign in to, so I don't see the big deal. My wife uses my account most of the time on the PS3. /shrug

To those that have got the game early, I'd like to ask a question. Is there any option to remove number popups (you know, numbers popping out showing damage done, etc. JRPG style)? I find them spammy, distracting, and unnecesary.

Howdy dowdy fowdy folks.

Since a bunch of us in J-Gaf either already have the game (ME) or will have it tomorrow, I figure it'd be nice to have a place to discuss the game ahead of the NA OT which'll be out a little ways from now.

Dear Ryouga,

Could you give me a rating or general comment on the quality of that artbook (its contents)?

I though the game was cross play from the get go... when did this change?....

Edit:

Watching the stream... Boss Spoiler:
They took the rabit from monthy python and the Holy Grail and made it a boss LOL

Yeah that's something I'd like to know, too. The screen seems like it already gets chaotic enough as it is.

GAWD DAMMIT!

One Trophy List, it's shared, FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!

Do I cancel Vita version? ; ;
