Avowed |OT| Is an oath worth the weight of a crown?

One of the few games I finished in recent years. The exploration was just so rewarding. The graphics were also fantastic as was the combat. The loot kind of sucked, but that was my only real issue with the game. Hopefully there will be a sequel. Or at least some expansions.

Lol, Marius is pretty hilarious sometimes.

I am totally hooked and looking forward to playing this every day now - it is so easy to pick up and rewards you so quickly each session with fun exploration and combat
VERY oldschool fun, and it just looks SO good. By far the best use of UE5 imo - at least for the environments and lightning

Also, having played Pillars of Eternity 1/2 I really enjoy the worldbuilding the games does too - However I can understand it being a bit confusing with all the name of gods etc being dropped all over the place if you never played the CPRG:s

This game will def will be a cult classic in the future

Ugh, I played over the time allowed for refund and deeply regret my choice to 'give it a chance.'

I must be playing a different game to you guys, this shit is dull as dishwater despite being an explosion of rainbow colours. It's just not clicking for me at all. The world is so stiff and unimersive, and combat reminds me of a mobile-first mmorpg or something. I cant stand the bland story / characters either :/

Can you elaborate on this? No idea how you come to that conclusion.

I dunno it just 'feels' off... I guess it just feels like there is no impact, you really don't feel like you are hitting or getting hit. The AI isn't great either.. I just feel like I'm spamming the spacebar whenever an enemy has a glowing symbol over their head over and over again makes me think of mobile games, I have no idea why, but I don't like it

the worse offender though is the fuckind gen/z redditesque humour cringe stuff, I just want to stab forks into my ears when these npc's crack jokes. It's not quite as bad as Veilguard but its up there.

I'm glad for people enjoying this, truly, just not for me. I'm stuffed and cant refund it now either, would have loved to roll that cash into something else, but oh well. is what it is

Yeah, I mean, fair - you don't have to like it. I just found the combat interactions to be some of the more enjoyable components of the game myself.

NPC stuff isn't awful for me, but not ideal either. I do wish we could go back to writing from 20 years ago on the whole.

But yeah, sorry to hear you're stuck with it now and didn't like it :(.

I'd just came to it after finishing Atomfall, which has giant leaps ahead in terms of writing quality, voice acting, immersion, and despite that game having quite servicable combat as well I was able to look past it since everything together was high quality.

I long for the day we get a game written as well as say Fallout NV again...

It's funny, I played Atomfall briefly (just no time right now) after Avowed and while I enjoyed what I played, the parkour for example stood out like a sore thumb and felt just so ... bad. But Avowed has awesome parkour. I still want to play more of Atomfall when I get the time, seemed interesting if janky (I don't mind jank).

Yes, I wish we could have another New Vegas... definitely one of the best games ever made. :messenger_fire:

I finished KCD2 (230 hours) two weeks ago, took a bit of break from gaming and started playing Avowed yesterday. It is quite a whiplash! World is completely static and dead, almost nothing is interactive, combat is action arcadey nonsense, one of my first sidequests was "bring me 5 medallions" like in some 2004-era MMO. You'd never see trash quest like this in KCD or Witcher 3. And of course I am playing "chosen one" "godlike" "envoy". Lately, American games are horrible when it comes to this stuff.

HOWEVER, I did play for some 6 hours so far and I do not hate it - the world is quite pretty and it is fun to explore it, in a comfort junk food kind of way. Still, I wish Obsidian would again some day made a game of the calibre of New Vegas or KOTOR2, but that seems unlikely since 99% of the people who made their classics have left.

100% agree. About the explosion of rainbow colors, I even turned off most of the HUD and combat elements to try and mitigate the constant visual assault of colors and lights even during basic melee combat and it did nothing. That on top of the game pairing you with unlikeable/uninteresting characters right off the bat let me know immediately the game wasn't for me. Shame too, I was hoping it would be, especially after what was a somewhat intriguing opening cinematic.

I wonder why they shifted so far away from the tone of the initial reveal.
