Dragon's Crown Thread of Import Impressions and Elf

Luck doesn't govern drops, it governs critical hit rate.
Really? So the IGN previews were wrong about that?

No, because at least this way everyone you meet online will know what they're doing (so, nobody online is a noob).
Not a really good excuse. They could simply have come up with decent matchmaking. Noobs playing with noobs, pros playing with pros etc.

I got only the artbook for preordering it in a store and it still cost me around 80$.

Proof of the pricing fuckup shows in the small example in this thread where a potential sale went to "fuck no gonna wait for the US release". Really think this was more a decision on the index side to try and squeeze as much cash out as possible. Which is generally a bad idea when you have a title like this. Hard to market co-op to friends when the game is so fucking expensive in japan. Even MH and the other type of co-op titles are cheaper and offer more content in general. Bad business move when you look at the overall battlefield out there.

Finally put in some real time into the game. Really enjoying it a lot right now. I have a hard time choosing which version I like better. Right now the vita one is winning out due to the better controls for me, the beautiful screen, and the convenience of the portability. But the PS3 one is quite amazing looking too. Looks incredible on my 52 inch tv, the detail is quite beautiful. My tv said the game was 1080p, which was nice to see. Aside from that, I just love the gameplay so far. I've never played the old capcom D&D games (fixing that next month), but so far DC has given me the feeling I hope I can get from those games too in what I want in such a game. Hope to get in a lot more play time this weekend.

I'm definitely getting it on the PS3. I have to play it on a larger screen. Adding along drop-in couch friends at the house and a reportedly more stable frame rate, it's the only choice for me. The cursor sounds poorly implemented for consoles, but more-than-likely, I'll be just fine.

It's so bad though. So bad.

Destroys the tempo of each stage.

Vita version is definitely the way to go for anyone who is on the fence.

Japan: hardcover art book, coffee cup, wall scroll, fully dual-audio
US: half the price

Even though some stores in Japan are selling the game + hardback art book for $80, you can easily find it for around $55 almost anywhere you look.

After you beat normal, what do you do next? Move on to the next difficulty with your same character? I'm assuming the loot is better in the next difficulties. How many difficulties are there?

I'm assuming it's kind of like Diablo3/Path of Exile where you start on normal and level up as you go through each difficulty getting better and better gear.

You have to obtain the talisman all over again in all 3 difficulties. Each difficulty raises the level cap, so you can get better loot.

Cross-posting because I was an idiot and posted it in the dead IGN thread...

So like.. if I play through the game once as an Amazon, are there unique story/stage/enemies I'd see or experience if I replay the game as the Elf?

Or is replay just for trying out other characters and getting different loot?

So how many hours did it take u to finish one time?

Was it 20 like previously reported?
Took me 10 hours 30 minutes to clear the game on Normal. I wasn't really "rushing", because I did a bit of backtracking to finish side quests.

Picked up the US version. Game is amazing, a nice love letter to old beat em ups and games like D&D and King of Dragons. The artbook with the bonus ex-Capcom artist pics is pretty cool as well (LOVE the Kinu and Akiman pics).

Only using Amazon so far, but its pretty addicting to replay levels to level up and get new items (as well as finding random people to rez and use). Stringing together combos and never touching the ground as an amazon is too fun, even more so with other players. It's also not as frustrating as other Vanillaware games that are a little too difficult at the start. The controls tool a little getting used to but after around 30 minutes became pretty intuitive (on ps3).

I'm wondering if my custom characters will show up summonable in other peoples games.Either way I only played for 3 hours but I can see myself playing this forever.

Is this game less of a chore than Muramasa? There's no real backtracking since it's all mission based right?

Yeah, no backtracking. You're instantly taken back to town after finishing a quest.

The story mode is indentical for each class, so it's just for the fun of it.

Once again, I hate you.

I'm sorry for being too lazy to read 14 pages but is it confirmed that the Vita version has slowdown but better controls?

How bad are we talking? Bad enough to change my preorder at Amazon while there's still time?

Actually took the time to read

Ugh....what version to buy

DC seems like the perfect portable game imo but I don't want to deal with worse framerate if I don't have to

Damnit Vanillaware

I don't have it, but I've read 14 pages and my impression is that there's a noticeable drop when things get crazy but it doesn't drop to Odin Sphere levels.

The advantage of the Vita's controls is not having to mouse around with the right stick-- if you've played GrimGrimoire, you'll remember how fun that was.

2. The DLC is not JP voices. JP voices as options for the characters is standard with the game. The DLC is to change the narrator's voice.

can you confirm that the english version will have the DLC to change the narrator's voice? i've seen plenty of people saying the english version will not have the option to change the narrator's voice, the DLC is supposedly just to change your playable characters' voices from eng to jp but not the narrator

You're misunderstanding the DLC narrator voices - they have nothing to do with the language, it just makes voice actor for each class selectable as a game master.

It can be purchased in-game as well for 1 mil gold.

Beaten by Hasemo, but yes.

There's a main narrator, and there's a narration track by the voice of each of the characters. The main narrator is unlocked by default while the characters are available as in-game drops or free DLC. There will be no narration by the JP narrator or the JP character voices in the NA release.
