Raise the flame shield: Your "controversial" gaming opinion.

I love hardcore games and I love classic RPGs.

and I'm sorry, but I really fucking love Bioware and especially Bethesda games. Fallout 3, ME2, Jade Empire and KOTOR1 are four of my favorite games of the first decade.

I understand all the criticisms and agree with MANY of them, but I think the anti-behavior is really hyperbole and follow the leader behavior. Just my opinion and again, I'm sure I'm so fucking wrong, but it would be nice to read a Bethesda thread without "SKYRIM IS A PIECE OF FUCKING SHIT" in 3 out of 4 replies.

My man. I understand the criticisms but Bioware and Bethesda games are pretty much universally awesome. I don't really understand why they get so much hatred.

I try to ignore it, but when it disrupts conversation that's a big problem.

I would like to believe I'm a fairly picky and intelligent person. I also completely understand the criticism of let's say Bethesda games and I wish some of the things weren't changed that are (I would love bigger cities and more dialogue, a better story, more factions and choices that affect the world, etc) but I never have a bad experience. Even with the butt ugly Oblivion, which I put in 175 hours my first playthrough (without even touching Knights and Shivering Isles) and another 100 from additional playthroughs.

I've had such great experiences and I love how the worlds are set up (I love New Vegas, but I'm sorry, I like the layout and personality of FO3 better), so I just want to talk about these games I love.

But it's like you can't talk about them without the anger and bile. It's like if every time you sat down to enjoy your favorite meal, you had to eat a huge chunk of shit first, then you were allowed to eat it.

Angry Birds is the most boring game I have ever played in my life. I got Angry Birds Seasons for free during a giveaway, played it for 3-5 minutes, uninstalled.
Aliens: Colonial Marines is a good game.
I loved Duke Nukem Forever. Played it 21 hours according to Steam, even bought the SP DLC, not a single regret.

I know exactly what you mean. I've never claimed any of these games are perfect, but the amount of irrational hatred you get over even the minor issues with them is ridiculous. Its like there are thousands of gamers who's parents were murdered by Bethesda.

There is no place in gaming for on-line play and that shit needs to be taken out as soon as possible. It just caters to the lowest level of gamers there are.

This is the dumbest thing I have ever read on GAF. Granted, I've only been coming here a short while but, congrats.

HL2: Episode 2 is pretty bad. It starts OK but gets progressively worse, culminating in an awful boss battle where they combine everything I dislike about HL2.

And now I remember why I never listened to the developer commentary. I deleted the game in anger after finishing it years ago, and I did the same thing now. Maybe in another five years.

Some truly awful achievements as well.

Episode 1 is a much better effort.

I liked MGS4, quite a lot.
Sure it's mostly fan service and a lot of pandering and some ridiculous retcons and plot changes, but mechanically it's the most solid MGS to date. It's a great last game in the series.

...and then they carried on making them.

Not really complaining though. MGSV looks crazy, so hyped.

My second one is I really dislike the Mass Effect series. I find it incredibly boring and I've put in serious effort in attempting to like it and understand why others enjoy it but it just isn't working. I don't get how people can praise the wooden animations and awkward dialog in the speech encounters, saying they've never felt for characters as much as they have in Mass Effect before.
I felt more engaged with Roman in GTA IV than I did with anyone in Mass Effect, and we all know how Roman is.
The encounters just don't seem natural and it really puts me off.

I do you one better. I like CoD's single player campaigns.

Me too. They afford absolutely no player freedom but they're expertly paced and fun for the 4 or so hours they last. I enjoyed the MW storyline across the 3 games. I also quite enjoyed WaW and BO campaigns. Didn't get much more than 45 minutes into BO2 though.

It goes to show what pacing and good scripting can do for a game. I'd never pay full price for a CoD game becuase I despise the community, and if I'm to play an online FPS I'd go with Battlefield - but the SP campaign is worth a rental.

Conversely, the similarly restrictive SP campaign in BF3 is absolutely awful.

Speaking of systems, the Super Nintendo is objectively, the best console ever made. Period. This isn't open to debate. I'm sure Europeans will argue that their beloved Mega Drive was better. Come on. Get real. There will never be a console better than that platform. Super Mario Word 1 And 2, Mario All-Stars, Mario Kart, A Link to the Past, F-Zero, Star Fox, Kirby Superstar, Pilot Wings, Donkey Country 1,2 and 3, Mega Man X 1, 2 and 3, Super fucking Metroid, Earthbound....need I say more? I could keep going. NES saved gaming and put in the ground work for the glory that would be the SNES. All the games I mentioned are near perfect examples of how great level design, thoughtful artwork, memorable music and likable characters and worlds all come together to make experiences that STILL, to this day, influence people who make and play games. I was lucky enough to be a kid, growing up, when the SNES came out. It was in those crucial developmental years that I grew fond of gaming, and now, as an adult, understand why I like the things I like what I consider to be fun and good design. So if you weren't as fortunate as me, or as many other folks here, please, do yourself a favor and indulge yourself. See for yourself, for what I, and many people consider, the true golden age of gaming.

This is 100% Fact. SNES was easily the best system of all time. Only PS2 comes close.

But you can't turn off the motion controls.

I know this is completely beside the point, but this is kind of one of the coolest things about the emulator Dolphin is if you want, you totally can turn off motion controls.

Playing DKCR with a dedicated "shake" button felt a lot more tight and having a spin button in Galaxy while playing with a 360 controller is great too. Just bind the pointer to the right thumb stick and you're pretty much golden.

I hate PC gaming because it forces me to use a fuckin' wired 360 controller.

Then when I chose to use a PS3 or a PS2 controller via adapter, I have to FUCKING map my FUCKING buttons

Then fuckin Super Street Fighter IV for PC gets all wonkey when you plug in 2 USB controllers. Only recognizes one then the other forces you to go wired 360. FUCK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!

I love PC gaming but I too really fucking hate how you have to use the 360 controller on certain games unless you have to go through hoops to use a different one.

Gta SA is the worst GTA game.

Vice City is the best

An elegant solution.

I think Skyward sword was the best 3D Zelda game (haven't play WW)
Also i think GTA series is over rated
Borderlands was meh

TES and GTA are mediocre games. Just a bunch of bad/mediocre parts glued together and stretched thinly across the massive landscapes.

When I first played GTA:SA years ago, I thought I wad playing a shovelware game because of how bad the targetting was.

DMC4 is a mediocre package. Its best and only asset is its combat. Even then, the execution is incredibly flawed and is several steps backward compared to DMC3.

DmC is a better package than DMC4, with a much better story to boot. It also has better writing and is a more mature take on the lore despite the cussing. The hate for the cussing is vastly blown out of proportion.

Agnus is terribly designed. The scene with Dante and Agnus is cringeworthy. Not even so bad it's good. Just plain awful.

DmC gets too much flak and DMC4 gets way too much love. People like to ignore the bads of DMC4 and the goods of DmC.

Oh wait DmC has no goods at all HOHOHO im makin a funny ryt here being cool with da crowd

Platinum is overrated and none of their games have ever been fun.

That only refers to Bayonetta and Vanquish since those are the only ones I've played

Vice City > San Andreas
Despite the great additions SA added to the series, VC had the better city (SA seemed pretty drab to me), soundtrack, and protagonist.

Mass Effect 3's ending was great
Granted, there were some issues I had at first (which were fixed with the Director's Cut or whatever), it was so unexpected that I was pretty amazed. And for those who complain that all the endings were too similar, I viewed the game as one big ending which wrapped up many storylines.

Nintendo should leave the console market, become 3rd party, still make handhelds.
They seem so out-of-tune with console development nowadays, it makes me wonder what could be. Also, they should announce a Majora's Mask remake already.

Bioshock 1 > Infinite
Infinite is a great game, but it felt stripped down compared to 1, and even 2 [which I see just as good as 1]. Weapons weren't as interesting and I miss the exploration aspects.

Call of Duty have great campaigns.
Whenever I pick up a new release, I actually look forward to what the story has to offer. Yeah, sometimes they're incoherent [looking at you MW2], but they provide great popcorn action and set pieces.

Mass Effect characters look and behave like mannequins and thus the franchise never appealed to me. The characters appear soulless because the animation and art is awful.

I didn't like the gameplay in both games either but I just put it down to them not clicking with my tastes in gaming because I definitely see the quality in both titles. Still don't think they are overrated and after MGR I'm finally glad I get to fully appreciate a title they made.

"Just be grateful its coming to the states at all!" is some of the worst defense ever.

Yeah be glad they even bother because they don't want money, they just had nothing else better to do.

i has the word ''driver'' in it, fuck drivers

I'm not sure if you're trolling (seriously, I really don't know), but if you aren't, that software is exactly what you want. The drivers it installs can be cleanly uninstalled from the same interface. Just follow the instructions. It works perfectly, look anywhere and you'll see nothing but praise for it.

Borderlands is one of the most boring games I've ever played. Let's hope Destiny is a better game.

Oh god yes. I love Bingle and really want Destiny to be great but it gives off such strong Borderlands vibes and I was utterly bored by Borderlands.

Hopefully Bungle can get the combat nailed down better Borderlands did.
