I got a beta code during the E3 Home thingy... but I don't remember where I wrote the code down!!!!

EDIT: Surely there's a log of the stuff you won during the E3 Home giveaway, right? Does anyone know where to view that info?

Those Home codes are for the US beta on the 21st btw (just in case people thought it was for the closed beta atm).

just got skyfury for the first time and noticed the lag.

....managed to walk out of a melee lol, just pressed triangle really fast, no counter option came up .. unless he cancelled it or something somehow

Very silly the way they handled this, the E3 space is no longer available, and when I got the code I'm almost certain it said August 21 is when the beta started and I couldn't redeem the code till then. Would it have been so hard to redeem the code then and there and unlock the download at the appropriate time? Grr!
 
I have a feeling the EU beta will be open...not very convenient for US if you only have one vita and memory card, especially with the game coming not too long after but hopefully it'll be an option. (EU didn't get beta codes for doing the Home stuff)

So i just finished up a match with a bunch of Vitabros here, and it was my first experience with Party Chat. Everything worked absolutely flawlessly, there was like 5 or 6 of us in the chat and there was absolutely no lag in game. It can be difficult to know who's talking at first, but i'm sure i'll get to know all your voices pretty soon :) So ya, wow, so much fun.

But how are the controles? They dont look that good! Can someone confirm that the controles are good?

Yep same here first time using party chat, well with this game, worked great [has a nice party game section in-game that recognises when you're in a party].

They're good :) Optional motion assisted aiming as well (which you should switch on, really helpful for slight adjustments).

Odd, I'm UK and got in...I thought I got in due to PS+, been a subber since day one and just registered my interest on the website.

Bit gutted tho, having read the comments about the locked loadouts altho mine was ok I re-downloaded so I was 'ready to go' only to find I not only lost all my progress but the loadout screens were locked!

I re-downloaded onto PS3 thinking I could just copy across and leave it on the PS3, took ~4mins to d/l but then 15-20 mins to xfer across!? Not only that but it deleted the PS3 file - d'oh!

Great stuff tho.

There is a closed beta going in Europe at the moment. It will go open in the end of the month. Played for the game yesterday for the first time and enjoyed it.

Im proud over Guerrilla Cambridge, they have really made a good FPS for Vita. I have only tried the preview build the press got a few weeks ago, and it rocked hard.
 
As good as the game is, the fact your character still looks like he's crouching the whole time shits me to no end.

Why is it like this? Did they ever give a reason in the old games?

After the new patch I can no longer select a loadout. Even Loadout 1 is locked for a private and I am Private II. I have to just wait until it puts me in. For some reason it thinks I am "Blackjack".

I wish I could delete my profile data but on the Vita you gotta delete everything and redownload the whole game. Might just wait until the game comes out to play more at this point. I already know I gotta buy it.

This is how it is supposed to be. You are supposed to delete the beta, instal, then instal update.

I asked Mathis De Jonge is 4 on 4 was the limit and why, this is the answer i got on Twitter:

"With this fidelity of gfx more players would mean cuts in other areas and considering the screensize we feel this is the optimum"

So i guess 4 on 4 will always be the player limit in a multiplayer match on a Vita. Kind of sucks.
Well, we could maybe get other bigger multiplayer games I guess. They'd just look like arse.

Yeah, i'd like a third person shooter on the Vita with a player count of 24 and it looking like Unit 13 when it comes to the graphical fidelity, but that's not gonna happen. The only multiplayer game i've enjoyed on the Vita is WipEout 2048. It'd be cool if this game gets me really hooked, like me playing KZ:M multiplayer while i'm not playing GTA 5 haha...

Then again the Join Friend option in the menu is really handy for that as well.

4 on 4 can be enough if is well done. Look at The Last of Us multiplayer, is 4 on 4 and is fun and addictive. The key is to make the gameplay and the maps perfectly designed to 8 players.

I love TLOU's multiplayer but the premise is totally different from Killzone and it's "Warzone" etc. But sure, i haven't played KZ:M yet and like all multiplayer games it's always more fun when you're playing with friends and you got that tight teamwork going.

The two maps in the beta are very well suited for 4v4 teamwork as well. They feel good as far as size goes for 4v4 or free for all matches. If the other maps in the full release are like this I don't see any hindrances on that front.

Only point needing some more adjustment is spawn placement.
 
Everyone seems to be saying the controls are fine but I'm yet to see a video where it looks that way to me. I'd like to see some video of a player who is able to somewhat quickly aim and shoot at a moving target from a decent distance like you often have to do in console shooters. I'm just worried that the small analog nubs will make this fairly difficult like it was in Uncharted: GA. Gyro assistance is fine and all but the issue is being able to hit a moving target from distance quickly which I'm not sure that helps with.

I really hope I'm over-thinking this because the game looks like a lot of fun otherwise.

I don't think the size of a stick really matters. I can't tell the Vita analog stick from a PS3 stick. What you may have noticed is that it does a have a low level of autoaim. I would say the amount of autoaim is exact to Killzone 2 & 3 where it barely exists. If you need a lot of autoaim in your shooter, Mercenary is not going to make you happy.
 
Anyone having trouble getting into a game? I keep getting this error message when trying to join a game:

"No network connection to the game host was able to be made."
 
Ha, the tranquilizer gun is great. You can one shot people into a stun, after which you can interrogate them (press triangle and swipe left on touch screen), which shows enemies on radar for a short time and also gives 150 extra valor. Combined with the mercenary armor that gives extra valor and you being a good shot you can rack up points pretty fast
 
Got hit with the loadout glitch, makes it so I can't even select a loadout so I never respawn. Bummer.

You are supposed to delete the app, install, patch, then play.


If you didn't do this when the patch was released, you will get that bug.
 
Finally got around to playing it and I am just blown away

Not only is the game so mind blowingly beautiful...thee Unit 13 like bounty system is just so much fun!

Killzone 2 is probably one of my favorite MP shooters of this generation so trust me, auto-aim isn't the issue. The size of the sticks matters because of the differences in throw. On a DS3 stick you have substantially more throw to work with than on the Vita, which means the stick can be less sensitive when moving from neutral to an outside position without significantly impacting how quickly you can turn. Because the Vita sticks are so small (and therefore have so little throw), they need to be very sensitive which can make fine-tuning your aim quickly quite difficult. It can make aiming feel very "jumpy," for lack of a better word. This is why I'm looking for some firsthand reports to find out whether or not this is something I should be concerned about.

Don't get me wrong, I think the Vita sticks are adequate enough for shooters, I'm just wondering how good you can get with quick aiming using them after some significant practice time. I'm also just a little concerned that I will never feel completely in control in Mercenary as opposed to many console shooters like KZ2.

All that aside, I'm enjoying reading about everyone's experiences with the beta. It sounds like Mercenary will end up being a very solid game which makes me super excited.
 
I just wanted to chime in and say that the Beta is very, very well done and the multiplayer at even the closed-beta stage is more addicting than I thought it would be. I loved KZ2's dynamic Warzone game-type and I love it even more here! I can tell that the progression system and valor cards are going to be very addicting/rewarding as well. I love picking up those damn valor cards from downed enemies!

I did take ma about 2-3 full game of WarZone and some slight tweaking on the analog sticks' sensitivity for me to feel comfortable with the controls, but man when it finally "clicked!" Wow... I can't wait for the full game (Day 1 for me), and can see myself playing it A TON on the couch while the wife watches TV, while in bed, ect... Great pick-up and player multiplayer for when you want to get a few quick rounds in!

mannn same thing happened to me a few days ago... makes me not want to play the beta any more - i got a great sense of what it will be like - i'm sold on the game, really just dont feel like re-downloading again...

are crashes significantly improved since the patch? did anything get balanced?
 
Oh shit, I'm so hyped for this game, just got back from a trip right now and I NEED to play this beta!

It's pretty much random. I re-installed the game and patched the game, but my loadout is still locked. Sucks to redownload it again.
 
Gonna play another couple of matches in a few minutes. I don't really like online MP-shooters apart from the yearly CoD I play with friends who are in invested in that, but this Killzone totally grabbed me (did play the other three too though and a bit of KZ3 online as well)

Only thing I'm hoping is that the MP-trophies aren't too demanding, and keep the more introductory style of trophies Guerilla used in KZ3 (play/win a match of each mode, do a simple specific action etc)

Although I could live with a trophy that asks you to get the General rank because I'll probably play the MP as long to get to that anyway.
