What is the worst PC port of all time?

My vote goes to Grand Theft Auto IV.

It's a bitch to install.

You can barely run it with minimum hardware.

It looks and plays like shit on vanilla settings.

You can hardly mod it without breaking it (for instance, that damn taxi bug will be the death of me. Every fix for that bug either doesn't work, or causes the worst texture pop-in ever.)

It's a bitch to uninstall, too. (Gotta run dat Service Pack 3 on the damn uninstall executable. -_____-)

A friend of mine had actually ROM'd & cracked the game and said the game installs & plays much better than it does normally.

I'm sure there are worse ports, but since I'm still relatively new to the console space, this is my choice...

Mass Effect 1.

Totally unplayable on a Nvidia 9800 GT as it crashes a few minutes after a couple cut scenes.

Saints Row 2, Force Unleashed, The Saboteur is literally unplayable in certain AMD cards, Dark Souls can be considered terrible limiting both resolution and framerate.

Saints Row 2 ran like ass
Bully was horrible without multiple patches

I could at least launch that game and do a couple missions before it decided to crap out.

My vote is for Dead Space. Ran at 30 FPS regardless of what I did (and that should not have been happening), had an unskippable opening cutscene (that's a sin on all consoles), and I couldn't even get more than 10 minutes in, because a door was bugged and would open, but the space was still blocked so I was trapped in that room.

Worthless.

Oh man.

- Doesn't support controllers.
- But you can't input text with the keyboard, lol (it's done with the arrow keys).
- It's a game that runs on Wii and DS but has nasty lagging / frame rate issues on some modern PCs that can run the sequel without issues.

Probably Prototype 1, or Ghost Recon: Future Soldier (Xbox face buttons were left in the HUD).

Edit: also, Metal Gear Solid 2... try playing that with a mouse.

Not even a question: Saint's Row 2.

GTA4 was fine for me Day One on the PC, Saint's Row 2 still requires a wing and a prayer to make it run properly using community patches.

My vote's on GTAIV. Even though my newly bought (back then) PC could handle the best performance with steady 30-40FPS, GFWL was a bitch and I've never managed to play a decent multiplayer session (and the ranked matches were blocked from the start).

Windows 8.

LOL

EDIT:
Wasn't the PC version of the Iron Man movie game a direct port...of the PSP version?

Oh damn, I forgot about this one. You won, this is even worse.

I envy you if you think GTA IV is the worst. Even amongst Rockstar games it isn't nearly the worst. To play Bully pre-patch I had to disable some of my RAM, reboot my PC and then play. And even then it would be broken with terrible framerate and it had such massive memory leaks that even if it was running okay to begin with, it would soon bog down and you'd have to restart.

Thank god for the patches.

I cant run GTA IV above 30 FPS even with patches on a GTX 670. so it goes to that.

SAme with SAints Row 2, below 30 FPS.

Saints Row 2 no doubt, DMC3 in a close second but i can see Dark Souls getting mentioned in here a lot since is the most recent bad port released

Resident Evil 4. DMC 3 was playable, on RE4 you couldn't aim with the mouse, you needed a mod for that. I'm serious. Lol at everyone complaining about small stuff compared to the atrocity the RE4 port is.

EDIT: Beaten like the Chinese employees who coded the PC port of RE4.

Dark Souls and GTA IV made me actually angry at the laziness of the developers. Zero fucking effort. I still haven't bought either of them even after they were "fixed" because fuck me giving any money to them. "Hey guys I know that porting your game literally meant just making it playable on a PC and is therefore shitty but the community fixed it so here's my money." Fuck. That.

I'm gona have to back people up on LA Noire for the PC, I payed 5 bucks from a steam sale for it, I'm glad I only payed 5 bucks lol.

Uhm, what? I had none of these issues. The only problem I had was no online multiplayer.

Resident Evil 4 didn't even have mouse support. THAT is the worst PC port.

This. The PC port is a port of the PS2 version, which is again a port of the superior Gamecube version. That sucks.

Anyone saying Dark Souls is probably blessed in terms of the games they've played if that's their pick for worst port.

Aside from the locked resolution and framerate the game was perfectly playable and had next to no bugs. Game also never crashed on me or anything.

RE4 was a right abomination. I mean it's one thing to have terrible performance, this game would've been fortunate to have a Dark Souls-like port. Didn't even have proper lighting or anything, it was awful.

I dunno about the worst... but I will say Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, as great a game as it is, is pretty much unplayable in certain areas on the PC. There's a horrible memory leak issue that makes the framerate drop constantly until you reload a save, so if you want anything close to acceptable, you have to constantly quicksave and quickload. (No patch was ever made to fix that, of course.)

But I've heard the console version has a lot of problems too, so maybe the PC version isn't technically a bad port.

I have not been impressed with L.A. Noire's port, either. I like the game okay, but it runs like shit. And I agree GTA IV's port is awful. (I'd take a port that shitty of RDR if that was the only way I could get it for PC, though :/ )

I don't see the issue with Dark Souls, in terms of porting. It's an exact 1:1 port of the console version. It's not glitched, nor is it broken. It just lacked the extras that PC gamers usually get.

If you want something broken, there are games like Saints Row 2. It goes too slow or too fast depending on how far you are from 3.2GHz.

From what I can remember, 1.0 of RE4 didn't even have lighting effects. They had to add these too:

There's even a GAF thread about it: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=151466
