Nintendo Downloads - August 2013

Alongside Shovel Knight it's very promising. I made an OT for the game if it interests you :)

Shovel Knight is going to be utterly amazing.
I'm most likely going to triple dip, with my Kickstarter copy being 3DS, getting the Wii U version when battle mode is added, and getting a steam copy if it ever goes on sale.

EDIT: What price is steamworld? And if you had to choose between it and mutant mudds, which would you pick? I'm personally leaning towards Mutant.

$9. Buy buy buy!

Edit: SteamWorld. I have 100%'d MM multiple times, I love it! But that game is already a financial success...SW is terrific and deserves a day one download.

Just got RoTK4 because I'm into strategy games, but damn I'm in over my head haha. Any tips for this beast?

Read up on some of the characters, watch Red Cliff on Netflix & read some guides and FAQ's.

My favorite part of the game is pitting rivals against one another through deception and then sweeping in and hiring their generals amidst the chaos.

Really take your time with it.
It takes some time to "click" but once it does you'll love it.

Ehhh I have both, and don't. Mutant is great at what it does; emulating a Gameboy Color platformer, warts and all. It's got a steep ass difficulty curve and very little in the way of variety. It's well made with a lot of content, but I'd go with Steamworld, which is $9 IIRC.

NWR gave SteamWorld Dig a 9/10.

Oh, and is Myst worth $5? I know its a shit version, but portable Myst sounds like an OK proposition despite the quality of the port. Maybe I'll wait for a temp sale..get another buck off. That would push me over the edge.

Avoid at all costs, it deserves zero sales. It's probably worse than even the Sega CD port. You can't even use the touchscreen: the game controls solely using the circle pad.

I love Mutant Mudds. Great old-school platformer and one of my favorite eShop games. But, based on what I've played so far, SteamWorld is even better.

Thanks! I've messed around with it for about 4 hours now just trying to figure out what everything does, but it's growing on me.

Finally bought escapeVektor thanks to the sale. I already had the Wii version, which only has the first chapter, and I really liked it (though I never finished it), so the 3DS one being on sale at half price was great.

Thanks for that. I just got the game as well. As a general strategy, does this make sense:

Build up one's own nation (Recruit generals, develop, train, etc) -> Disrupt enemy nation (Spread rumours, set fires) -> Attack (Target weakest enemy nation -> Rebuild

Also, do you happen to know which game has the characters from The Water Margin and if it's one of the better ones in the series?

Something related to servers on japan receiving way more traffic than they imagined, so it was delayed a little bit to ensure there is no overtraffic problems

realMyst is $6 on Steam. If you have an even remotely modern PC it's probably your best option. I've heard terrible things about the 3DS version.

I'm pretty sure that reason was only given for Flipnote Studio 3D, not Art Academy.

The Japanese 3DS downloads have been announced for 21 August (I'll list them later unless someone beats me to it as just awoke) so I guess there really is NOTHING for next week?!

Edit: here's Japan 3DS for 21 August:-

Antarctic Adventure
Colors! 3D
3D Bare Knuckle
Drawing Workshop Plus
Robot Rescue 3D
4 x Challenge from Greco! games
And some eBook - can someone please translate me the title (どこぽんちょいす 進撃の巨人 vol.1)? Thanks!

Tried out the Chain Blaster demo. Beautiful game, neat Galaga vibe going on, but I don't quite know what's going on with that B-button mechanic and how it's replenished. The 3D seems very well done and tasteful.

Ffff I was trying to save that $30 from the FE:A and SMT4 promo until I actually had time to play something (SMT has been monopolizing what little time I get).

But SteamWorld Dig looks so good.

I am an adult with a full time job, a wife, and a small child. How the hell can I find time to play all of these amazing games on the 3DS? I don't even mind that the Wii U doesn't have shit to play yet because I have such a portable backlog.

Yea, you guys should play SteamWorld Dig. Beat it today and it was great.

Also, that $30 from the promo can only be spent on AA5, any other answer is WRONG. :p

What is the exploration like in Steamworld Dig? Can you get stuck with no idea where to go next (like Metroid)? Or is it more like exploration to find bonuses (like the Star Coins in New Super Mario Bros)?

This can make or break a game for me.

On Nintendo's Wii U VC page they have a picture of a GBA next to the SNES and NES. When the hell are we going to get those games? And when will we see any N64 games? I would love to spend money Nintendo.

Man I remember playing this with my brother. Game was fantastic.

From what I've played so far, exploration most resembles Terraria if you've played that. Quests will put a marker on your map and you dig out blocks to get down to the marker (which is usually a door to a small sub-area.) There will be occasional rocks with gravity and small chambers or enemies. Once you get into the sub-areas it's more like looking for star coins... a small level-like area with a few hidden goodies.

It's possible (but perfectly avoidable) to dig yourself into a hole you can't get out of, which I suppose is the reason for the self-destruct option in the menu.

I bet that strategy died with Sven.

I expect $50 from Capcpom
No way will they charge $50 for it. They would be absolutely insane to do that.

Sure, Capcom is absolutely insane... but I just dont see them pricing so high.

I'd still pay that price

Seriously as a digital only release a 20-25€ pricepoint wouldn't be all that unreasonable. At that price more people on the fence would be able to get into the franchise. No doubt this would also mean more people lining up for PL vs. AA next year. AA is the kind of franchise you get when you play it.

Yeah, if AAI didn't do that well at retail for $30 (or $40, I can't remember), I sure cannot see them charging the same price for a digital only game after the convincing they had to do with Capcom Japan to get the game over here. $30 would be the MOST I'd expect. I'm hoping for about $20.

Erm... is it possible to pre-order on the eshop?
It's just that I checked the recent bestsellers list on the UK eshop and... The Wonderful 101 is there at 19th. What the hell?

So I just noticed GAME have some 3DS eShop and VC game download codes. Prices are same as eShop (unlike some of the retail downloads).

Fans should notice one mistake though (hint)
That shield...
(full)
Link's Awakening DX...they've used the N64 OOT box logo and stuck Links Awakening DX as the subtitle

Semi-related. While it is only first party games with these codes currently I wonder if third party games will ever happen (unlikely as many parties involved but a sheet of plasticly paper with Phoenix Wright on it is possibly the nearest we're getting to boxed AA5...)

Both GBA and N64 games were confirmed in the first half of this year; you'd think they'd be out by now, but Nintendo operates in a logic realm all their own.
Here's -hoping- they're released before the year ends.

Dunno if it's possible, but wouldn't that be a neat idea? Pay it in advance, then it starts downloading by itself from the second it gets online.

I can see Nintendo announcing it mere hours before launching. lol

I sure am glad they offered (surprisingly) a demo of the new M&L RPG. Man, talk about "more of the same." Yeah, it's feeling pretty formulaic at this point. Not really in that frame of mind right now.

Because we all know how being different worked for Paper Mario. ;)
