Killzone Mercenary Beta Discussion

STA-14 was my favourite weapon in KZ2. Usually kills people in 2-3 shots. It's like a pseudo-sniper rifle that is mobile. It was the first main weapon I purchased in KZM (the first item i bought was grenade, and then ghost vanguard).

The experience with STA-14 in KZM is really bad. maybe cause the map is kinda small. The default gun is much better.

That sucks, it's the gun I bought before I got off earlier. I hated that they added a scope to it in KZ3. It was such a beastly gun in KZ2, but I guess since not enough people used it, they had to COD-ify it. It needs to go back to iron sights, or how about even just giving the option.

Having lots of issues getting into a match. Maybe played half a game so far. I've enjoyed it though; aside from player counts, this really feels like a mainline PS3 Killzone game. The Vita is a powerful machine.

no problems logging in finding or playing matches, sad thing is on the hacking terminals part, I have no idea what the crap to do, other than that, I think its fun, plays just like KZ on ps3, I think I will buy this for sure :)

After having trouble getting into match at first I finally got into one. Too soon one way or the other to make any impressions except for one like many others have noticed, the graphics. Holy crap! Nothing does this game justice until you actually see it running on the Vita screen. So sharp, clean and beautiful. I'm going to try and get some good playtime in tomorrow.

Look at the pattern on the middle section. Find the parts that make up the pattern on that middle section from the outer left and right patterns. Touch one part from the outside left or right that is part of the pattern in the middle, and then tap the middle to apply it. Then touch the other part that finishes the pattern from the middle, and tap the middle to apply that one, too.

Played some COD Declassified today and I remember thinking it didn't look that bad but after the Killzone beta it looks terrible. Like experiencing first class and then having to go back to coach.

Downloaded and played a few matches today. Damn the visuals are absurd. It's basically KZ3 in the palm of your hand. The controls are going to take some getting used to. I'm guessing the beta only has one map?

Wow the beta has left a terrible impression for me. When I finally get into a game its lopsided 2v4. It spawned me exactly where I died 3 freaking times in a row just to get spawn killed again and again. The cluckyiness that the series is known for does not suit the vita well at all. Also not a fan with the melee kills and all the touch screen stuff. At least the game looks amazing. Will definitely wait for the PS+ freebie ver.

Really enjoyed playing this. It controls really well. I didn't feel limited or anything. Definitely picking it up day one. The multiplayer has me really excited to try out the campaign.

Downside though is when matches get lopsided and people quit out and then its a 4v1 or something.

The key for good control for me is being light with the analog sticks. I don't put pressure on them at all really and just let soft movement of the thumb do the work instead of kind of jabbing the stick around. Makes it easy to make quick, precise movements in any direction.

I love the controls.

Yeah. The spawning leaves a lot to be desires. Apparently, so does the matchmaking. This is precisely why there's a beta test.

Fix this shit, GG!!

Other than those 2 issues, the game is absolutely brilliant. The way the waves splashes against the bridge and the water droplets sticking to your goggles. Amazing attention to detail for a handheld!

Playing reminded me why I hate modern FPS games.

Got dropped into a match with much higher level players, so of course they get more powerful weapons. Even when I get the jump on someone and fire several shots into them, they kill me with a single shot.

Then I am promptly spawn killed over and over again. When I am not spawn killed I have no idea what I am supposed to be doing, and the overly busy UI on a tiny screen does not help.

The game is beautiful to look at, but not fun at all for me.

I hope they actually advertise for this game or make a bundle or something. I remember I kept seeing the commercial for cod: declassified and that game was awful. I'd like to see them give it some appreciation and just say "Hey look at this new game. Doesn't that look pretty. Oh . . . its on a handheld"

Dropping my impressions.
The visuals are stunning and the game is buttery smooth. No noticeable frame drops other than times getting chaotic such as explosions going off everywhere.

My only gripes is that the UI has no physical control option. An option like that should always be available IMO. Another one is the the radar, its design is abit distracting, thanks mostly due to circle. Get rid that, and maybe I can focus on the game more. Lastly, I really would like to to be able to just swipe down on the rear pad or just hold down the rear pad to initiate running. Circle and double tapping just feel odd for some reason. Oh and why can I only access the options menu when Im in the MP and not outside it. Leaves players as an easy target!

You can't get over-powered in this game, no matter what your level is. All weapons and armor are balanced. Powerful guns are less accurate and have short range.

My first few matches were terrible too. My K:D was 1:3 at best, I could hardly understand what's going on. However, once get to understand the mechanics it becomes a lot of fun. The game itself and the given mode has some depth into it, you can't just jump in and master it.

By the way, these are my last two full matched that I managed to play through yesterday night. Getting better! :]

Trying this for a while last night.

Have *absolutely no clue* what to do. I mean, who are the friends in my team? Who are the folks I need to shoot? And what should I do with these newfangled objectives with strange terms I have never heard before?

Before I even began to ponder the answers to those questions, someone killed me from behind -___________- over......... and over..............and over.....................

If your announcer is female, kill the red-eyed space nazis. If the announcer is a British male, shoot the blue generic space soldiers.

Played 1 hour yesterday, seriously, this game looks better than most of the FPS i played on PS3, the visuals are ace.

there are already cheaters in the game, i encountered an immortal player, we were 3 against him and we could not kill him =(

This game is fantastic
played 3 games last night
cleaned up shop all three times.

people suck at this
i dont mind though makes me feel like a god lol

Agreed. I'm still using the default guns and I usually end a match with around a 2.0 KDR.

When you're picking your loadout, you'll see your team. Blue is the ISA and Red is the Helghast. The Helghast have glowing orange-red eyes and more futuristic-looking armor. Another way to tell teams apart is looking at the names; friendlies in-game have their names in green.

The objectives are as follows:

Bounty Hunter - Kill the other team AND pick up the cards they drop.

Hacker - Hack the capsules that drop onto the map (the yellow blips on your map). Go up to one and press triangle to start the mini-game. You have to figure out which pieces combine to make the image in the center. Pick one and then tap the image in the center, and do it again with the remaining piece.

Interrogator - You have to interrogate enemies for intel, meaning you cannot kill them. There are four ways I know of to interrogate. The first is to melee an enemy from behind. The second is to shoot them in the legs and grab them when they fall. The third is to use a tranquilizer. The last is to do just enough damage to incapacitate someone, but not kill them. For example, throwing a grenade just barely outside of the killing range. When enemies are on the ground, use the melee button to interrogate.

Body Count - Just kill the enemy. There's no need to collect the cards enemies drop like in Bounty Hunter.

Had to activate my Facebook just to get a code, but well worth it. Deactivated it after I knew I was good.

Game is excellent and looks amazing. If they had actually spent time developing CoD I can only imagine how fun that would have been as well.

Played 2 games last night and I was blown away by how good the graphics are. They are so clean and sharp. The controls will take some getting used to but that's not an issue. Enjoying it so far and can't wait to play more

Really the game looks so good, reminds me of my first shooter on the ps3, killzone 2.

The first match i was like, well, the controls suck... Cant aim, then after about 10 minutes i was used to it and played like on the console, the objectives are quite fun and its always funny when your outnumbered (2vs3) and still win the match.

But... How do you trow grenades?

Thanks for this summary; that's very helpful. Isn't there a fifth objective though? The game is great, but it could definitely explain itself better. I played loads of KZ2 back in the day, but didn't play so much of KZ3 so I can't remember the intricacies of the MP so well.

Absolutely loving this, never played KZ multiplayer before but can see myself really getting into it. Also helps that thanks to knowing how hacking works and being pretty nifty with the flying pincer robot thing, I'm usually ending up top of the leaderboard in games, which never usually happens to me in FPS MP

Hacking is repeated after Interrogator.

Okay, so I finally got to play this last night. IT WAS AMAZING!!
Weirdest part is, I didn't pay much attention to the crazy graphics. It was kinda strange. I love eye candy. I'm was buying this game because it's eye candy. But I didn't spend any time admiring the scenery(like I always do with a graphically impressive game), I just played.... till 2:12am. Who knew four hours could fly by so fast.

KZM is fun! I thought everything controlled well. I'm not a fps guy, and I managed to shoot accurately enough to get top score for a few rounds.
Always found matches and had 6-8 players. It's great that you can quickly join a friends game too :) I have a rubbish internet connection BTW. Took 3 hours to download the demo - but for some reason, online gaming (and video streaming) has never been an issue for me.
edit: Saving and being saved by others in the game is a really awesome feeling.

Screenshots don't do justice (even if you put them on your vita). You had to be there. Quoted for size.

Did better in my 2nd match, but I don't think I'm getting the hang of the Hacker phase of Warzone. Once I open the capsule, do I just select the matching firewall and wait until the timer expires on screen?

You have to select the two shapes that make the shape in the middle.

I have finally tried the game this morning
It was so hard to get into a match because of connection problems which were probably caused by beta server. Once i got in i had a blast.
It is an incredible looking and fun game to play.
This is the worst thing Sony have done to Vita though. Now i will want more games with this quality. The bar has been raised.

So, you're one of those unkillable laggers that kills others! :p

This game is so awesome! Quite possible the most fun I've had on the system yet!
I very much appreciate they added some touch screen/rear pad functionality to buttons as well, but honestly, I actually prefer using the rear pad, another game that uses the rear pad well!
I really like the valor system too, (Got Ace of clubs :D), I'll likely try and collect all the cards in multiplayer and this is just multiplayer! I didnt think this would be a game I play multiplayer much on, bu I can totally see me doing just that.
Really hoping for dlc too, as I pressume there wont be many maps.

I wonder whether your stats in the beta will carry into the full game... As I see me putting a lot of time into this... ha ha

The hacking is super simple once you know how it works. Van Winkle explains it really well (post above mine), or if you're a visual learner, this post explains it with some screenshots.

thanks so much, i was like trying to hold the 2 pieces to make the puzzle :) lol, no wonder I was getting killed so much being near that thing :)
