Killzone Mercenary Beta Discussion

I hate to be that person, but the beta has left me extremely disappointed with the multiplayer in the game. It just controls really bad, and when I finally got used to the controls I realized that there is not much strategy involved in the game, and that you don't really need to aim to kill other players. I just ran and press the trigger faster than my enemy and I was able to make a decent kill count in my second match.

I'm a huge Killzone fan but unless the single player makes up for all the shortcomings in the MP I don't see myself getting this game.

That said the game does look gorgeous, and since I'm a big Vita fan at least I'm happy that a lot of people here on GAF are enjoying the beta.

I was pleasantly surprised with this multi player mode. It is fast paced with different objectives in one multiplayer mode which feels refreshing than just one main objective. Maybe not my favourite fps controls but they work well. Feels a lot better than the Killzone 2 demo I played long time ago. If the single player mode is good I might buy my first Killzone game

Okay, after increasing gyro sensitivity to maximum now aiming feels much better. However, I don't seem to be able to run consistently, since the same button is mapped to running and crouching. Any tips?

You just have to make sure that you're moving when you press circle, to run. It's not hard.

Motion Control Sensitivity needs dialling waaaaay up. At max sensitivity it doesnt feel like enough. Spawning is completely fucked up. Bring back spawn camps and spawn grenades dingbats.

Also an adventure in how many ways you can not be playing the game!

- You were kicked from the match for inactivity/lost connection
- There was an internal error
- This match was full
- No network connection to the game host could be made

All kicking me back three menus. Some games are lagshit and unplayable, most likely because its bunging me to some low ping american hellhole.

If only, IF ONLY, online games had invented some kind of server list functionality back in 1998. I will soon start murdering videogame developers and leaving this helpful note as a message to others.

Played my first couple of rounds. It's so beautiful.

Don't really have anything useful to add as I much prefer my FPS single player. Lovely and fluid with nice controls though, can't wait to get my grubby mitts on the full game.

I've only managed to connect to one match so far, and even that one disconnected after 5 minutes, but damn these are some pretty graphics!

So this is definitely the best controlling kz I've played yet. The gunplay feels great on this.

Is this true? Because if so thank you for letting me know to stay the hell away from the rest of the series.

This is my first killzone game and whilst the aiming ok for a handheld, it's been a long time since I've played a console FPS that had worse aiming than this.

had a quick blast - its fun. looks amazing but will be picking this up for sporadic MP and mostly single player campaign.

This game needs an option to map sprint to down on the dpad like resistance. Pressing O is awful half the time i crouch, back touch is better but down on the dpad would be best.

I've never had any problem with the press circle method.
Just tried the game and thought it worked well.
While moving tap O to run
While moving hold down O to crouch
While running tap O to slide

I really liked it. More than down or back touch.

Only thing is gyro sensitivity is to low. Other than that it works great.

This game controls fucking awesome. The gunplay feels amazing, it's like guerilla finally got it right. This is the game that sets the vita apart from the 3DS. I swear to god nintendo, if you don't include two analogs with your next handheld....

Been a LONG LONG time since I last said " WOW" out loud from playing a game.
Even the last of us didn't make me do that ( and I play pretty much every game on 1080/max/60 fps) but when I got into my first game and seen how it looked on the vita, I was blown away, just how incredible it looked was mind blowing to me.

It did help that I spawned under a red sheet thing that made my gun look a little red since the sun was passing through it ( damn it, should have taken a pic)

The gameplay, which I was worried about, is actually pretty amazing and does give that KZ 2 feel ( but a bit more responsive). Played like 3 games and was lag free, except 1 individual who lagged a little, but nothing too bad.

Finding out how to hack made that small mission A hell of a lot easier and quicker lol ( seems like many still have no clue). The small analog sticks didn't feel as bad as I feared they would have and work almost perfectly with FPS games, which is awesome.

Sprinting is a bit weird but something I got used to later on though.

FPS ( frames) was a lot smoother than I expected too be, which was great. I did notice a little fps drops here and there but not as bad as the majority of console games, so that is great.

My only problems: I feel the auto aim is a little too strong and bullet damage seems pretty high, nothing too bad and defiantly not game breaking but just something I noticed.

Day1 easily.

Dat chirp killstreak of domination downing entire teams then hacking, then interrogating, the owning.

I'm not sure how this isn't the everyman COD players fucking dream portable game that should shift the shit out of the Vita, but Sony wont give it the needed advertising push due to having the PS4 launch on their plate :(

This game is awesome. Only problem is that I was just having an awesome game and then just got dropped due to connectivity issues. Wish I would have at least kept the money I earned that game.

Killzone VitaGAF assemble!

So how do you do the interrogation mode? I only have things that kill people!

Took me awhile to figure out the hacking as well.

Take them from behind, soldier. Approach their rear. Melee. Beat the tasty info treats.

Just got a #1 score of 42. Ha ha ha. My Valor Card better be King because THATS WHAT I FUCKING AM. (it will help when other players figure out what the fuck they are doing)

If you find bullets are too damaging, then you can buy ballistic armour. This makes you slower and louder - but it makes you a lot tougher.

I keep hitting down to sprint like in Burning Skies and I end up throwing a grenade against the wall. I like sprint and crouch being on the same button. It works. Just have to force myself to think of hitting the O button to sprint.

Just showed this to people in the office. They were completely floored. They couldn't believe that it was a handheld game. Someone said "Holy crap, it's like a mini PS3!"

I believe you can also shoot the enemies in the legs to were they are in an "Injured" state and begin interrogation there. Interrogations in any other modes lead to enemy positions being reveled on the mini map.

Having a lot of fun with this, liking the touch puzzles in some of the Warzone modes, makes the 4 person teams have to work together and watch out for enemies.

Wtf do I do when I go to hack a vanguard and those octogons pop up?

When the octagons appears, inside you will some areas of it covered. ( 4 parts of it are covered already)

All you really have to do it match the outer octagons that FIT into the octogon's design in the middle ( don't try to fit the parts that are not covered to make it whole, all you have to do is find the octagons on the outside that fit into that already covered part.

As this terrible 2 minute drawn picture shows, the left picture is what you could see in the middle of the hack screen.

Now the two on the right are what you will basically click on to "make" that screen and will count as a successful hack.
When you combine the two on the right ( in the picture below) together, it covers the area the one in the middle does.

I just remembered why I hate competitive fps'ers so much. cos I am so fucking shit at them it make me angry. I really wish I was good at them, I'm just not. All I seem to do is die and re-spawn. Half the time I have no idea how I got shot. Think I need glasses.

You're in for a treat. Its hard to believe You're actually playing a portable game.

Indeed. Seems more like a video stream with clean IQ and no control lag from an unreleased version of Killzone running on a PS3.

Unf, unf, unf. Good to hear, I'm always wary, since you can see asset quality and lighting from vids and screens, but never IQ.

How I long for another Uncharted, GoW or MGA game. An Uncharted or TLoU spin-off from Bend with Mercenary's tech and no rush for launch would be so good. Vita (owners) got robbed, Sony should've created some studios willing to work on a handheld.

This game...

.... THIS FUCKING GAAAAAME!!!!

played this today during my lunch break at the local library using their wireless. Had absolutely no problems.... Am still in awe that was actually able to type that quite frankly!

I think I may have found my permanent replacement for something like Mohun and am so goddamn glad this series is getting the love it deserves.

This game is pretty friendly.

Just keep an eye on the minimap when you are sure no enemy is near ( sprint = location reveal on the map) and if you do see an enemy, just press L1 and R1 together since the game has quite a lot of aim assist and you will almost always get the kill ( since bullet damage is high too) Takes a little getting used to though.

Keep yourself and your teamates position in mind, if they die, best to keep that area in check since there is probably an enemy there.

I'm with ya dude. I think the only online FPS where I ever achieved a slight degree of competency was Halo 3. I love playing single-player and I'm not shy of higher difficulties, but it all goes to shit when I play online.

I think it's because I can't force myself to care about FPS mechanics once you remove any story from the picture. Just running around aimlessly killing / dying bores the shit out of me, so I quickly lose concentration. Even the added objectives in Killzone do little to keep me playing.

Still, the campaign looks amazing, so all's well that ends well.

As a HUGE franchise fan/devout, Id say the only thing Cambridge screwed up here was the weak/generic as hell sound they have now for the default rifle. Especially after how perfect it sounded in KZ3. Dont know why they changed it when say, something like the SMG (the one with the barrel clip), sounds the same as it always has.

Agreed.
