Killzone Mercenary Beta Discussion

I don't think I'm particularly amazing at shooters and I've never really played Killzone or CoD/BF etc. is it worth jumping into the beta? I don't want to be that guy who dies every 30 seconds.

I'm not amazing at shooters generally and I've never played a Killzone before. I'm somehow pretty decent at this, have the highest value valour card and more often than not I do better than everyone else in my matches. I don't understand why. Give it a go. If you suck then you suck. You might be surprised. I strongly advise you raise the aiming sensitivity before you play though.

I'd say go ahead and do it. I'm not particularly skilled myself, but I've been having a lot of fun with this. Plus the mode they have in the beta has mostly team objective based stuff, so you can always do well focusing on that and getting points for your team. I'm having a blast.

If nothing else, look at it this way - it's a beta, so you're helping Cambridge to (hopefully) make things better in the final game.

Look at the central symbol, then tap any symbols on the outside that could overlay the central symbol exactly. Tap the central symbol after selecting each outside symbol to confirm the 'overlay'.

If that makes sense.
Thanks - that is what I was trying to do only wasn't tapping the central symbol to confirm after each one.

Hmmm, I think I need to buy some other VAN-Guard since I don't like Arc Missile anymore. It was pretty fun to shock some noobs at first but it doesn't work that well against better players. You become visible on the enemy radars and those lighting thingies just make my eyesight messy and then I can't aim properly. I'm thinking between Mantys Engine and Sky Fury, but will probably go for ME.

I really like the depth and balance in this game, at first it looks like every VAN-Guard is OP but they have its own weaknesses too.

Melee kills almost take too long. I guess it makes it more realistic, but I tend to not use them if I can. I was saved twice in one game because the kill took too long and my teammate just shot the guy haha

I'd recommend picking up the Proximity as soon as you can. It's too powerful right now, and few players know how to counter it. You can toss it in the four way in the caverns to score an easy kill, or use it to cover you when hacking.

Score from my last game. Not one of my best tho

The arc missile is very, very useful for interrogations. Not only does it take down enemies (without killing them) quickly - but if you yourself get taken down it sticks around until you bleed out. I had some absolutely hilarious moments in the closed beta, one where I got tranquillized and the entire enemy team tried to get to me to interrogate me, and one by one they all got taken down by the arc missile. It ended with a group of 5 of us, all in bleed out/tranq - screaming and moaning. :-) The difference was I eventually got back up and finished them all off :)

It forces you to change your playstyle, forcing you to get in close if you want to do damage. Sometimes it's best to find a group of enemies and just try and sprint past them, letting the missile do it's thing. Hopefully in the chaos it can cause you can get through unscathed.

The danger is if someone blows it up, it can lead to a suicide. Which is actually good if you are in bleedout - prevents an interrogation.

I hope on of the modes remove the bots and keep it weapon v weapon. Never liked bots, in any way ( too cheap).

I hated the bots in KZ2, powerful and ruin what is probably my favourite game this gen. Massive nuisance.
I just think they did a bit too much damage ( mainly the flying bot)

By bots do you mean the vanguards?

Does anyone else feel like the increased saturation you get when you're using ghost should be mandatory? The game looks even better with the high saturation.

One complaint, too many of the modes are samey

Body Count - Kill the enemy
Bounty Hunter - Collect Valor cards from fallen enemies

Interrogator - Extract intelligence from incapacitated enemies

And then two rounds of
Hacker - Secure VAN-Gaurd Capsules

Or rather at least 1 duplicate during a Warzone. Are they still working on Search and Destroy or something?

I don't think any of the vanguards are COD killstreak levels of cheap/broken. The mantis drone(flying robot that spikes your head) can be shot down very easily and you can always see exactly where one of them is at any time by just looking at the radar/map. If you ever hear that an enemy mantis drone is in the air just keep an eye on the radar for a little red dot and you can see if it's heading for you. Very easy to shoot down when you see it. I find it's only really bothersome to defend against when it takes you by surprise when you're busy in a firefight.

The homing missile launcher can be annoying when used against you but the one firing it can be taken down at any time. It's far from broken. The one that gives the player a shield isn't bad at all since when he fires the weapon his shield is down, plus you can easily take him down from the side or behind. I can't ever recall being killed by a guy using Ghost that I know of and when I use it it certainly doesn't feel overpowered. The electric ball one I find isn't very helpful at all most of the time.

I think the only vanguard that feels a bit cheap is the one I have in my loadout. Sky Fury. It's defendable against in the sense that you just get inside when one is about. But that isn't always possible so some deaths can feel cheap. It's the easiest vanguard to use to just rack up a few easy kills.

Best game yet. I bought the second gun on the list. Much morre stable for me. I shot much more accurate. Also had like 3 counters in a row, back to back. Game is so intense for a handheld :p

Argh, I must catch EU beta code. Need to refresh this thread more often!
What do you mean? There are no beta codes for the EU beta - everyone who has PS+ are in the EU beta now, and everyone else with a Vita are getting into the EU beta next week.

I must not be the only one having a bit of trouble adjusting to the controls. The second game I played I got out of with 23-18 in stats as the top player of my (winning) team. :p

The spawning system needs a major overhaul. i just had a few games in a row where i was getting killed immediately upon spawning multiple times in a row. There is also a definite host advantage in this game, with the host often getting one shot kills and teleporting.

I am loving the game play, though the grenade and weapon switching prove that a second set of triggers would be a huge help!

The M82 seems a bit op'd though compared to the other guns I have tried. fortunately it is the base gun, but it kind of discourages using anything else. Maybe there will be more open maps at release that will play to the strengths of other weapons. As it stands now, the M82 is actually more powerful up close than a shotgun (if you don't get a one hit kill with the shotty).

Is the mission rotation set already, or can we expect something else in the place of that second hacker mission? Maybe a king of the hill or zone control variant.

In any case - back to it. I love the different armors!

By bots do you mean the vanguards?

Am I the only one that still hasn't changed my gun? It's so damn effective for me I'm scared to change it.

Yea, the one you control and puts the blades through the enemies head. I guess it isn't that OP since it can be killed easily though ( I seem to be able to do this well, others seem to struggle or just ignore it lol). I was mainly talking about the KZ2 flying bots that took a lot of bullets to destroy and were quite powerful.

I purchased the semi auto rifle since I loved it in KZ2 and while it was good, it was pretty underpowered since the M82 is SO effective currently ( very good accuracy, very good damage, almost no recoil, good ROF and the auto aim makes it 5 x easier/ quicker to kill)

It was perfectly balanced in KZ2 though. Is it possible to make it so that if you push the left analog up twice quickly it can make you sprint? Could work well ( like double tapping W on the keyboard to sprint) Yea the respawn system isn't too good.

Grenades need some serious blast radius decrease, right now they reach fucking everywhere.

Yeah, I agree with that. Really noticed it tonight; seems that if you're within about 15 feet of a grenade you're probably dead.

Anyway, I've just played a few games and now I've got my head around how everything works I'm really enjoying it. I had an awful game to begin with where the other team mullered us and had one ninja bastard who kept killing me. But in the other two games I really got into my stride, focused on objectives rather than kills and was a lot more successful. I still think the game could communicate things better (I saw plenty of folk struggling with hacking, and it seemed no-one aside from me was interrogating at all), but all in all it's a lot of fun, great controls, lots of tactical options and a good progression system. Really impressed so far - I think this might be the best KZ multiplayer yet. We'll see of course how Shadow Fall fares.

A couple of thoughts before I go to sleep; I dislike swiping to do melee attacks, and that drone which stabs enemies in the side of the head is freakin' awesome!

Downloaded this today and the first thing that got me was how great the visuals are, makes me wonder what more the Vita is capable of in technically. The game itself is very solid, definately a must buy

this game is insanely awesome. still stunned by it and must have played it for quite a bit so far.

It's super fun but holy shit fix the fucking spawns. There's nothing fun about getting killed by the orbital beam, spawning outside and instantly getting killed by it again.

Every game Ive played today I got booted for connection issues.. Hadnt happened at all the last two days.

I notice if I play, then suspend my vita, I will continue to be booted until I quit out of the beta and reopen it. FWIW.

I dont understand the hacking mini game

:(

...also, this is the most beautiful portable game ever.

I finally did it correctly!

Basically in the middle image you see those colored areas vs 'empty' areas right? Find the two matching shapes from the pics around it. Tap one of them and tap the middle and do it again with the other one. Basically try to color/fill the whole symbol

I love this fucking game. Absolutely getting it when it releases.

Does this game have the most guns out of any KZ game? It seems like it. I remember other KZ games only having one sniper, one SMG, etc. This game has multiple guns in each category.

I didn't know that equipping a vanguard would allow you to use it multiple times (with recharges of course). I thought it would just allow you to start out a match with one. I might have to equip one now, though I don't know if I'll even use it. I rarely use the vanguards I pick up during matches.

This game seriously needs pub voice chat. I hate being killed every time I hack the vanguards while my team mates just wank around. There needs to be more coordination.

Sony better market the living shit out of this. This is pretty much a full console experience on handheld. Beautifully and very damn playable thanks to the dual analogs. Let's hope this is the push that the Vita needs to really break it into the mainstream.

Take anyone awhile to get used to the sticks on the Vita? I just got a Vita recently and can't really get a handle on on them -- I was getting destroyed when I tried to play this because I just can't aim correctly. Any tips on sensitivity settings I should try?
