Easy way to tell and not get your hopes up - If the prelude music is still playing, you will be 1017'd.

Well, I know one way or the other it's going to be fixed eventually, but I'm more concerned that I'll just get bored with trying and move onto something else before that happens. I actually really want to play this game. I'd love to get immersed in the world and I'm totally okay with sub fees, but I can be.. fickle - and I know it won't take long for me to get tired of waiting and move onto something else.

Same here, I'am starting to think about just moving to something else and that was not what i had in mind when i bought the game.

To be honest is not permanently, the worst should be until the big maintenance, which was a quite a long time, but from that point it should be much better.

FFXI playonline had a better way to inform us about the servers status, now the launcher is totally a mess, can't even tell the difference between "news" and "topics"

It's easier to use shout for parties. I did that and it goes much quicker.

I just Initiate the duty finder and hang around doing Fates and non instanced quests. Then BAM. I've only partied up for Haitali (sp?) with some Gaffers, everything else has been duty finder .

My record is 90 minutes so yeah, I guess im very unlucky. Minimum was probably about 30ish...

Yeah that could help... but If I get paired with a full JP party it could be a mess...

I play on gamepad. Its perfect. For typing just use my wireless keyboard.

You have to be careful though, a lot of people turn it off due to spam from sellers as well as general player stupidity.

It's X-Input compatible, so any X-Box 360 compatible controller works, down to the buttons appearing on the display.

Interestingly enough, I found out that each and every descible of the hand has unique spells they can all use, the most useful one i'd think to be from blacksmithing:

As an armorsmith i can HQ anything at my level more or less without incident. I'm only about 13 smithing right now (played a couple hours this morning) but i imagine it'd make hq'ing higher level recipes for xp much easier.

The level 50 version(http://xivdb.com/?skill/283/Ingenuity-II) actually has me thinking i should cap both of them out before looking at any other crafts.

That's always the bad thing about adding too many new servers. Rather server support for existing ones is the better option (which sounds like they're also doing).

An idle/afk timer is probably the best bet, at least as a temporarily emergency measure they can activate at times of extreme server load. Such as launch and expansion launches. Then turn it off later when things even out.
