We have been running the EXP boost consistently from the moment buffs were unlocked. By percentage, the experience boost has probably been active 90% of the time or greater since early access. We decided to try and cycle some different buffs in to mix things up a bit this past weekend. Unfortunately, we can't please everyone, especially 512 people, all at different stages in the game and all with different priorities. Not everyone waits until level cap to start crafting and gathering.

The buffs are so insignificant that they will not make or break any single activity. It's just one of those things that are nice to have. The experience buff in particular is really only going to help in dungeons and 5% extra per mob killed is really a small amount. The majority of your experience will come from quests, hunting log completion, and FATE.
We realize that the experience boost will probably benefit the majority and will continue to keep this one active the majority of the time, but there is no reason to get upset when a different buff is occasionally applied.

Indeed, any bonus is nice to have. Though I do think that there are probably a lot of people who still can't get in the damn game most of the time and are stuck in their low teens where I do think it can help things go smoother. Reduced Rates is awesome for lower level players as well, not sure why people would be complaining about that one. Maybe once server issues are better and people are able to play when they want to, there will be less need to have EXP boost up the majority of the time.

World full. How is this still happening to me on a fucking Tuesday evening?!

I suppose it doesnt help there are like 6 EU servers to the 19 NA ones and 25 JP ones. Europe is a small island thing in the middle of the ocean with no internet, isn't it?
Hate to break it to you, but the EU servers are located in the NA Montreal data centre, they are EU in name only.

Woo, hit 41 in GSM this morning and HQ'd a whole set of level 40 accessories (well the ones nearest to it) for myself for the stretch to 50. Picked up some relatively cheap HQ gear too for the extra points in Craftmanship and Control. gonna try and get myself 300+ CP so I can HQ my synths that don't use HQ ingredients a little easier.

Then I'll probably work on getting the FC up to level 4. Consideirng there's only about 4-5 of us in there, getting to level 3.4 in a week is quite tasty.

So about this.. I've been scratching my head about ways to make more money once all the quests dried up. Battlecraft Leves seem to be pretty good and also drop green and pink gear, between quest rewards and the treasure coffers. But farming shards on my low level Botanist has so far been stupidly lucrative. They sell for 30-40g a pop and sell within minutes in stacks of 100 to people who are powerleveling their crafts.

The smarter people, and those willing to examine markets can make mass amounts of gil through Player to Player transactions. I don't disagree with that at all. There is no way that I know of that a normal person could make a large amount of money that doesn't involve a Player to Player transaction. There's no equivalent to say vanilla WoW where people farmed scarlet monestary or other instances for trash loot to sell. Trash loot in this game is worth almost nothing. The best way to make money right now that doesn't involve trading is chain running lvl 40 guildhests. I don't know of anything better, and its not very good at all.

As far as shards go. If you can make new chars and have a friend to help you power to 15. I think the fastest way is to just level every tradeskill to 5 or 10 for quest rewards shards. Talk about boring though.

I have yet to find anything that sells good from culinary/botany. But I'm still in my high 20s... and I doubt people really care about food at those levels.

So is crafted gear really worth it in this game or is it going to be worthless as it has been in most MMOs of late? Best stuff still is lootable?

The plus to crafted gear really comes from materia, I think. I don't think a lot of higher end drops can be equipped with them, at least off the top of my head. You'll spend quite a bit of cash getting with the melds/materia itself but yo ucan create gear almost or equivalent to dropped gear.

So the general consensus is that culinarian is the only non-combat profession to work towards right now?

These log in issues won't be fixed by a patch it will be fixed once less people play in 30 or so days.

I can get into the Japanese server fine but obviously my ping is super high, but like everyone else its a real test of patience getting on the Canadian ones.

am I the only one that hasn't touched any crafting/gathering thing yet?

fishing looks kinda chill though, is there a minigame or is it just afk do something else?

Whats fish even for... fish armor?

Don't think that's true yet. No market for high end food yet, no one is really raiding. It really depends on what you want out of crafting. Do you just want gil? If so selling shards from level 1 mining is all you need. Do you want a relic weapon? Then take your class appropriate tradeskills up. Do you think 2.1 will equalize the crafting and dungeon drop discrepancy? Then I'd level all the tradeskills to 50. I think the "is it worth it" question is pointless unless you state what "it" is.

Pretty freaking excited to play it. Been on a media black out for a good while. All I know when I first started playing a year ago or so it was really bad. But this actually looks like an offline FF. You can tell they put a lot of resources and energy into fixing the game. The story cutscenes look amazing. The one I saw. 62% with installing. I think I'm going to go the $14.99 route so I can have more than 1 character.

There is absolutely, positively no equivalent to ilvl 90 gear that can be made through crafting. ilvl 90 gear requires Tier 2 tokens though, and I don't think most people can beat Amdapor Keep without a dedicated group. Even with that being true, if your only objective is to get the best gear possible as of RIGHT NOW, you should be running dungeons and find the gil and friends to craft the relic piece for you.

If I've been getting 1017 since 10 in the morning, then I doubt I'll even have a chance of logging in before maintenence starts later tonight

Oh, I pretty much dismissed that possibility yesterday. Kinda a shame, but, it'll give me a chance to get to the gym, and do some yard work. The former especially, is something I've been itching to do lately.

I'm enjoying it so far but my conjurer character is only level 5. I was not able to get in the game at all yesterday no matter what times I tried. (Midgarsormr - NA Server)

Fish is for cooking stat food, so it's arguably one of the most important professions.

All of the crafting and gathering professions have pretty intricate minigames. They're designed so that you can put in a large amount of effort and calculation to improve the quality of the goods you get, or you can put in a small effort, or even put it on autopilot, and get a large quantity of crap.

Well, you know, collect seals, trade it for armor. The set bonus for Grand Company gear is pretty good, and you don't have to keep running dungeons in hope that the right piece of armor will drop.

Mind you, if it's a dungeon I haven't ran before, I enjoy running it a couple times. I'm not going to run it over and over all day, just to complete a set though.

I know that, but I cant imagine much reason an NA person would join an EU one. Or I guess things are so fucked now that the whole data centre melting down ensures I can't get on rather than there actually being an overpopulation problem? Wish the queue system actually worked to show how bad things are.

Is a Disciple of Land enought to get a decent supply of money for the high levels/end game?

Im pretty confident on lvl Botanist to 50, but I just cant do it with a DoH, it just bore me too much.

Now, I know that the richest ppl should be the crafters, but it seems like theres not really any way to get money apart from crafts. As Mugaaz said, Theres not something like loot from NM or BCNMS of XI.
I doesnt seems to me like a dude focusing only on a DoW could get enough money to take the endgame stuff (gear, food, etc)...

Btw any of you here own one of these? Logitech G13. Am looking to potentially pick one up for this game. As hate trying to use all the skills from a standard KB.

I've got one. They take some getting used to. I used it for a while with Guild Wars 2 but to be honest I found it didn't have enough buttons.

That's if you're a min/maxer.

A properly melded i70 will bring you REALLY close to an i90 piece which will give you very similar performance. It's a bit of luck because of the chances of meld becomes lower as you stack them on but it's very much possible. The lower level ones will be a bit more difficult to get up there but you can make respectable gear through crafting. As soon as higher end materia is released.

Edit: I know Tier IV materia is out but are the Tier 5s available? If so, then uh, I think you can get something that's pretty much an i90, lol

Oh sorry, don't remember mentioning that.

Oh hell yes it can be. But that means some dedication. Endgame gathering requires to to locate nodes that only spawn at certain times of day. But you'll also need to gear that can gather the high quality materials. No quality sells as well too. The richest currently are indeed the ones that have crafting and gathering

I've got one. They take some getting used to. I used it for a while with Guild Wars 2 but to be honest I found it didn't have enough buttons.

Use the joystick to move and the top two rows for an action bar. Bind SHIFT/ALT/CTRL to buttons on your mouse to access even more action bars. Use the other buttons for leftover important stuff and keep your keyboard around for minor things.

They aren't just doing a patch, they're increasing the capacity of their datacenters by adding more servers and worlds. In addition to that, they are restructuring the way their non-world servers work - currently the single player instances, duty finder, log in, etc. all run on the same servers and the sheer amount of players going about their business doing quests and dungeons is hindering the amount of players that can get through the log in process at all times which is why they have to put a hard cap of 5,000 players per server (this is usually not needed because players in MMOs are typically doing all sorts of different things at any point in time).

I don't expect problems to go away completely by the end of this week but it should be relatively easier to get in during peak hours if they are successful in doing what they are planning. It shouldn't take 4 hours of pounding 0 to get into the game - maybe 30-45 minutes of sitting in a queue if the traffic is THAT heavy. Once they get their issues straightened out, it hopefully won't be that bad to get in at the end of the week. Login problems should be gone entirely after the free month is up and the majority of casual players aren't playing.

Guess we will see after tomorrow...

interesting, thought those were just background visuals. reminds me of godzilla's back.

Anyone else kinda disappointed that there is only 1 moon? :P

Fantasy need at least 2!

Or some crazy crosshair thingy like in terra.

I think the people of Eorzea are okay with just having 1 moon now. The last one kinda killed a lot of them.

I don't think that's fair to say at all. Voice chat requires more of a commitment than text chat, one that many people simply can't give. My situation at home keeps me from being able to participate in voice chat much, and I honestly don't want to listen to a bunch of people talk when I could be hearing the beautiful music in the game anyway. I'm sure I'm not the only person who feels that way. Voice chat is great for when you're doing dungeons and stuff, but for general communication while just playing, I find it to be far too much of an engagement. On the other hand, everyone is seeing the text chat on their screen, so it's there by default.

I mean, it's fine that everyone uses whatever they want, but it is not a surprise that the FC feels segmented (and this is what I was addressing in GraveRobber's post to begin with).

The same can be said about text chat commitment for some PS3 users, controller users (especially those with a PC/TV setup), or users with a disability. It's true that the text chat is there by default for everyone and coming from someone that used to prefer using text chat over voice communication, I totally understand. I just don't want people to think we are intentionally ignoring them or that we are trying to form any sort of exclusive social circles. It's not like that at all. There are a lot of members and it's no easy task to always keep up with both. Even in Mumble, there are so many users speaking simultaneously at times, that we often have to break up into smaller groups.

This type of thing will always happen to some degree in a MMO, especially with a guild of this size. It's not intentional but there is really no avoiding it.

I seriously hope they do something to help players earn Gil, FFXI was the same and RMT flourished there because of how damned hard it was to earn any kind of cash.

I quit FFXI due to not wanting to spend hours farming Gil, and I will quit FFXIV if it boils down to requiring the same kind of investment.

20 mins of my first ever try of autohotkey, and still not in the game :/ I give up for today, and if this keeps up I'll probably just not return... The game is fun to play, whenever you get the chance to actually do so :( I really don't get how hard a queue system can be instead of the 1017 :/ Why can't the queue trigger instead, even if it says you are in place 1000. At least I'd know that I was on the way in...

We had a second moon. It fell, though.

FYI - Amazon is selling digital copies again. Just grabbed one.

Didn't see anything in the OP, but which server is everyone on... when they can get on?

That's if you're a min/maxer.
l

What? Of course that's only if you're a min/maxer! What else would I be talking about? People aren't asking anything else. They're asking if it's worth the effort in comparison to the alternatives. The answer to that is clearly "no, not right now". You could chain run Amdapor and have full ilvl 70 (except for weapon) faster than anyone doing crafting. You could then parley that into raiding Bahamut dungeon and getting ilvl 90 gear, which the crafter cannot match.

Nobody answered me. But I think Ultros. Finally got in, now 2gigs in patches. lol. Why couldn't this all be on the bluray disc?

I've got one. They take some getting used to. I used it for a while with Guild Wars 2 but to be honest I found it didn't have enough buttons.

Honestly, I can't see myself moving away from a controller, but I'm going to have to start finding workarounds to its limitations soon.

BTW, does anybody know if its possible to have both a controller Hotkey and keyboard hotkey active, at the same time? I heard about some people doing that in the Phase 3 beta, but not so much recently.

Boring yes, but long-term, I'm going to want to at least level a few different crafts. Just as an example for my Warrior, I'll want to max these out so that I can socket my gear:

Weapon - Blacksmith
Main armor pieces - Armorsmith
Minor armor pieces - Leatherworker
Jewelry - Goldsmith

That's pretty much everything except for Carpenter and Weaver. However, to level up many of those crafts, you need - guess what? - cloth and wood, so you want to level those as well to save some gil.

The problem right now (or "problem") is that the i70 crafted gear is pretty great but it's very difficult to HQ and the mats are insane. To make one http://xivdb.com/?item/4285/Rose-Gold-Ear-Screws you need 9, yes NINE Peacock Ore which each cost like 100 tokens. Sure, they are nice, and you can probably put VIT materia into them for that stat which makes them have a higher total stat boost and makes them useful for MNK/DRG/BRD equally, but you can get http://xivdb.com/?item/4278/Darklight-Earrings-of-Striking for, like, 300? tokens or something. I suspect multi-melded i70 crafted gear will allow for better stats and better versatility but darklight gear is competitive and a full set is much easier to get.

I think the final verdict really needs to be held until we know the stat caps on i70 gear because once melded they may be better "enough" to be worth pursuing. It sounds like Keep is already being farmed by some groups and they probably can do it in darklight with a primal or relic weapon (I haven't tried yet).

I tried skimming through the OP and this thread, but could not find what I was looking for...

I downloaded the client, ran the client, provided my account information, but when I try to use my FFXIV 1.0 key code, it says "The entered code has already been registered.".

I thought original FFXIV owners could reuse their key codes?
