New Zelda Wind Waker HD videos

I mean if the HD version looked just like a dolphin HD shot wouldn't people argue that's lazy? I guess Nintendo knew that and decided to switch it up a bit because although not everyone can emulate this in hd a lot can and there has to be more of an 'incentive' to get this version?

Looks great either way.

and throwing a shitty bloom filter on the game makes it somehow not lazy? lol

Wind Waker in HD with NO changes to the art style and the improvements to the gameplay in WWHD (hero mode, faster boat, faster text and animations) is practically my dream game.

the bloom is robbing me from a perfect version of wind waker =(

The irony is that the artstyle for the game was controversial when it was on the 'cube. Now the addition of bloom for the Wii U remake is dividing people.

I guess Wind Waker is doomed to forever divide the peoples.

There would always be complaining, but they could still pull it off. Original art style, improved geometry on curves, redone textures and decent anisotropic filtering, additional shadow casting, longer rendering distance, 1080p with AA, etc. Clean up and sharpen the overall image, giving the build a crisp "cartoon in motion" look.

They've instead chosen go for bloom, more traditional dynamic lighting effect (no longer a toon effect), and overall deeper gradients on edges of objects, lighting, and shadows. More of a claymation/CG look.

The HD version actually looks like it has a sun lighting the world. The lighting in the original is so static, flat and dull.

Well, I mean, isn't this game sort of a tech-demo of the WiiU hardware's graphical effects for the Zelda team to practice on? (Though it would have been nice to have little check boxes to turn things on and off though...) But I like the new look, it looks nice, but it looks less like a cartoon and more like a "3D video game." Recently I played "Tales of Vesperia" and I thought the cell-shading in that game was nice, maybe the Wind Waker HD is going "overboard" on the graphics? (Imagine me saying that about a Nintendo game, good grief >_< )

I think it looks great but would like it to be more dynamic, bloom seems to be always there during day.

It looks a lot less flat though and models look great indoor too with normal lighting

I hope this sells like hotcakes and Nintendo decides it's very profitable to do more HD remasters of GameCube (and Wii) games... Hopefully, next up is Super Mario Sunshine. It would be nice if they tweaked the final boss stage, redid (remove?) the blue coin challenges, and maybe add an extra level or two. Ahh...

That water in HD will look absolutely magnificient

Yeah that makes sense. Personally I prefer the change and think it looks better overall but like you say it's a fan favourite and Zelda fans especially don't like games to be messed about with. They could have improved on the original aesthetics and iterated on it. In any case I never really played WW so I'm hoping it's decent. Thanks for the reply.

This thread needs more Dolphin shots. I can't comprehend how people can compliment the bloom. Just look at what could have been.

The bloom screenshot shits on the Dolphin one from a great height

The reveal screenshots for WWHD were terrible and proof that they were at experimenting-stage back then, but this looks waaaaaaaaaay better now

My focus that makes the HD version look absolutely superior is the widescreen aspect and THE SHADOWS cast by trees, characters and such....The bloom is a non issue.....

One thing about this game is it looks like an actual HD remake. Srry to say but other companies have not put this much effort into a graphical remake like this (looking at MH3 wii u).

Sorry you don't like our last gen effect. I applied a very next gen effect to this picture. I hope you enjoy it!

P.S.: I'm a in bit of a hurry. Will add some bokeh later. Peace!
I apply red eyes effect on all my games on pc, doesn't that make me next next gen?

The Dolphin screenshots always made places like Windfall look even duller and washed out to me. The HD remake has made me realize just how much better the environments look with that touch up in contrast, and it has a consistent warmer atmosphere around it. I'm not sure I'll be able to go back anymore, the stronger primary colors look fabulous and I love all the intricate details. The bloom actually looks good to me.

Psyched to play it in motion.

Agree with this. The bloom looks great to me and adds to the overall style.

The bloom gives a good fog effect for objects off in the distance and dust in scenes like the posted dragon roost one.

I cant believe that my first game for wiiu its going to be a game that i can play right now, but this looks fantastic i cant hold myself from bying it...
The bloom looks ok but a bit to much, everything else looks great especialy in motion.

This is actually the video that sold me on the game. I guess seeing the lighting is other locations made all the difference.

Except no. Honestly, this is a purely subjective thing and obviously more people at Nintendo thought it looked better this way. Why don't we wait until we play it on our own TVs in motion before passing judgement?

Because it's the internet and we have to take sides immediately and since all the low-rez texture whining about Pikmin 3 looks laughable now that it's one of the most gorgeous games of the year there needs to be something else. Thus: Bloom Waker is born. Once this is out, we'll have to deal with how DKC Tropical Freeze looks like an uprezzed Wii game and how 3D World is reusing 3DS assets or something similarly dumb. It's the natural way of things.

People going on and on over the bloom are either drive-by-trolling, have never been outside at sea or just can't accept change. The bloom isn't out of place. It emphasizes the haziness of the open sea skyline. There's no crazy bloom indoors so what's the deal here? The updated look gives the game a more vibrant feel instead of just doing what would otherwise be called a "lazy uprez." If you really hate it that much, you can still play your original on the Cube or simply do the uprez yourself via Dolphin.

Well said. Particularly about Pikmin 3.

Wow. Well, sorry, they totally bastardized the appeal of the original art style. I'm still getting it, but this is definitely not the way it should look.

This. While everyone can see the benefit of the increased resolution, reworked texture and probably of the improvement at the gameplay, all the changes done to the lighting and shader actually works against the original art stile. Even the implementation of the self-shadowing, for example, is something that clash with the higly stylezed, toon shaded look of the original.

I don't know how anyone can dislike the new look. It's simply gorgeous. Makes the original look almost ugly.

I like both, the old one has a totally different character and is more artistic

This one looks more shaded and different, but generally i prefer the look of the old one more

I can't stand the Original now, basically it didn't even have a toon shader falloff to it or anything. It was just flat colors. This at least has rim lighting falloff and bloom and HDR to it. Its very pleasing when you see those sailing parts.

Cartoons have flat colors, that is the point

And it loosk totally amazing with that style, the shaded look makes it look more ordinary imo (but still amazing)
