As I said above, the old style FF11 leveling method is just way too solid-block-of-time-oriented for the majority of MMO players. I could swing it when I was younger, but not anymore. I know that's the case for others as well. With the Grounds of Valor parties, you can join/leave whenever you want with no pressure.

What I mean is that the method never truly changed, just the EXP amount. Traditional FFXI parties people stopped doing because the monsters don't give the same amount of EXP as a page. The biggest factor, however, was that the game had no party finder system and required on shouts. It was plain confusing sometimes to get into a party due to this. Modern MMOs for a long time have had party finders for EXP and such, but FFXI for whatever reason never had one added. What also made it more difficult was that the classes weren't balanced for EXP partying, at least, not all of them. I do think a auto party searcher/creator would benefit FFXI greatly.

It was made easier by an alliance for GoV because they pretty much admitted with the system that since there isn't a auto party finder, then there has to be a way where just about anyone can join in and play (this was what level sync was originally designed for which you know). Since an alliance pretty much mooted all that, and sticking to designed "spots" because of the book locations for EXP where people with word of mouth could get access to, this essentially became that system.

Anyhow, on to my point. In the previous way you leveled, you had someone tank, you had some DD, and you had a healer. You pulled an enemy, or two, to a spot and killed it for EXP. The method is still the same, it's just that since there are so many people there, you get quantity over quality, and that fills the void of no party finder. You still of course need healers and people using their bodies as shields, but no one has to be an outright tank since there are so many bodies.

I just personally find that nuisance is what held people back, at least, that was my complaint over it. FFXI has it's share of issues.

Is there a partyfinder in this? I've been shouting around for fate parties mostly lol.

Sorry for the repost, but is the ps3 version worth snagging or am I better off waiting until I build a PC? I've read that using the ds3 is pretty solid compared to kb+m but am still curious about the overall polish/load times. Also have the server issues been alleviated at all?

Are there groups that farm Dark Devices - The Plea? Seems like insane XP if you just farm the start for 15 minutes.

I think you may have missed the point of my comment all together.

I didn't say people completed end game content, but there are people already picking up their darklight sets of armor and getting really close to or are getting their relic weapons. I'm also not saying there isn't end game content, but it will be what people will cite as to why they left the game after only a month.

If you're pouring in 400-500 hours of play time in the space of a month, you tend to get a lot of shit done. You could play through every mainline FF.

No one has beaten the end game content yet. NO ONE. Why are people saying this crazy shit about no endgame?

OMG I am so hyped for endgame! So nobody had beaten any of the raid content? That's good to hear, hopefully due to challenge :)

Also I've heard about a Legacy Ring quest that gives you extra soulbinding - has anybody gotten this?

I think the PS3 version is just fine. The graphics aren't the same as PC can be obviously, but the loading times are generally the same and I haven't seen any more issues on PS3 than PC.

The server issues are better by a mile, but not fixed in the 100% sense.

I love to death FFXI but I dont want to play another game like that anymore.
Part that I dont feel like doing endgame in this game is cause I dont want to bother with scheduled events and stuff. I really got burned on the grind and endgame of FFXI.

FFXI's biggest flaw is the people that run it. It could have been a MUCH better game if just about any random person with experience of the game ran it or was part of the development somehow.

Well, least there's end-game in FFXIV. I love end-game and get disappointed when mmos don't have it.

I have to agree with what everyone else is saying, no way could I ever do a FFXI type mmo ever again. The time you have to spend on that game is ridiculous and those poor dragoons I always felt bad for the sitting there for 12 hours with their lfp ! Up.

Yes. That's what everyone does.

I swear... I hear about these things and by time I ever get to a point to exploit it, it's usually not around anymore. Mostly cause I just refuse to rush to get to it. I get that some people are just playing more than I am... but I'm like level 22 and I haven't even bothered to level anything other than Arcanist right now. *chuckles*

I just cant bring myself to use exploits no matter how helpful. Just seems like it cheapens the experience, and then you have no idea how to use extra skills you've gained.

I thought i read that Bahmut was already cleared, is there anything past him currently?

End Game Story Spoiler:
All I've heard about it is group size needed to run it. Nothing more. It could mean that people have cleared it and it could be the last of the game content until 2.1 arrives based on the end game credits scene. There's still the whole bit about the Ascians to deal with too that will probably not pop up either Crystal Tower or the first expansion. I have not done any post game content yet though, so it could be completely different.

Vibrancy (and SMAA) is the most basic and common SweetFX setting, but you can do some really crazy shit with that program.
It's a fascinating tool, and we PC gamers are lucky to have it. And ENB, of course. Fucking love PC gaming.

SweetFX is so difficult to learn and setup properly, though, it really is a lot of Google searching and trial and error to come up with some settings that you think improve the image, rather than ruining it.

It is ridiculously fucking easy to completely destroy the art of a game with SweetFX by just tweaking a couple innocent values. For some reason, many people really love to crank down the Gamma and crush the shit out of blacks, I can't stand that.

What some people were doing to Bioshock Infinite earlier this year was downright criminal. I saw some screenshots of that game that were just absolutely disgusting and completely ruined the artistic integrity with, like, crazy Sepia filters and shit. That's not how to use SweetFX.

Much of the magic of SweetFX is making minor decimal adjustments and seeing if you like the nearly insignificant difference. If you're doing it right, or learning it right.

Plenty of people just open up Notepad and start punching in random fucking numbers wherever they feel like it and then try to share that shit with the world.

Hard for me to tell if I'm doing that or not heh.

I got HDR, Tonemap, Vibrance and SMAA enabled. I should probably tweek tonemap a bit. We'll see. pain in the ass.

High five. It's really sad that people aren't taking the time to smell the flowers, so to speak. I've been playing since early access pretty much every day for a few hours and I'm only 25 on my highest class. What's the rush to level to end game? Talk to NPCs. Embrace the dialogue which is so well written instead of mashing through. Take the exit off the quest highway and explore the zones you go through. The world is beautiful and deep. Do dungeons, guildhests, and other instanced content more than once. Try a craft.

I guarantee that in 10 years I will look back at this game as a much richer experience than somebody who just bum rushed FATEs from mid-game on and quit after a month or two.

Can anyone sell me on this? I've been an on and off again WoW fan since TBC and like trying new MMO's. I never got a chance to try the original XIV but have heard some good things about ARR.

Whats so great about this MMO?

Right on thanks much. Probably going to end up picking this up after work. Have any of you on ps3 tried playing using kb+m? I hear there can be some issues doing it that way. Time to read through this thread..

It's extremely easy and convenient with regard to leveling - FATEs which are public events are FYI grinded for up to 250k an hour (I took a tank from lv36 to max 50 in 2 days).

Supposedly the end game raiding content is really good but there isn't much being talked about.

The story is cool and for the most part can be solo'd. It has quest hubs like WoW and you teleport around instead of using flight paths.

Boss mechanics are great, lot of challenge. It has an instance finder that is working well now.

Definitely worth trying out!

Though some mechanics are steeped in typical MMO fashion (ie. the tank/heal/dps trinity), the game is simply a pleasent experience. The wonderful music coupled with the high end graphics (at least on the PC) gloss over some of the more cliched MMO tropes. It is definitely worth the $30 to try for 30 days. I haven't been this into an MMO in awhile. Tera, Rift and Guild Wars 2 didn't grab me the way ARR has.

For me it is the enjoyable main story quests combined with steady character advancement. So far I've never felt like I have to grind something to keep moving forward. I've mainly been doing the story quests and dungeons while doing the occasional FATE if it happens to pop up near me. I don't know if it'll be able to hold my attention once I've finished the story, but I've definitely enjoyed it enough to be confident that I will at least finish that much.

It also doesn't hurt that it has a wonderful OST, beautiful graphics, and runs really well on my PC. I love just riding around the world on my Chocobo.

Just created a new character on Ultros. Still going by Eight Corova maybe I will see some of you around.

There's Gaffers every where on Ultros. I don't go long with out seeing a GAF tag on this server. It's awesome.

I'm Pelagius Themad on Ultros. Hope to see you out there! :3

Man. I guess I'm going to have to find some group or something. This quest is hard.
Its when the crown gets stolen by the hood guy. So after fighting a bunch of mobs and him, I have to fight a mage that summons a big boss
. I only managed to knock a small sliver of his HP.

I guess you can't hire A.I NPC to help? I don't think its even a dungeon. its just a ! with a different border than usual.

where do i find a job that lets me put 17 hours a day into an MMO?
Some IT jobs can wing allowing someone to man a help-desk like position or a monitoring servers position where they can play games and just have to make themselves available whenever any calls come in.

Thanks that pretty much sold me on it xD

Hows the combat?

The stacking happened to me as well, I didn't think anything of it at the time because the first +3 went through, but then looking at the item when selling it I noticed the second +2 in RED! I tried looking online for any answers and I'm stumped :(

Items have an inherent cap for certain stats when you materia-meld. If it's over the cap, it'll be penalized or not even give you any bonuses. It prevents folks from just maxing weapons out with like 35+ of a main stat on something or creating some ridiculous pieces. That's in exchange for making materia easier to meld overall. The lower level an item, the lower the cap obviously but you can still fit a few things on there if you find test and see what gives you the max benefit.

Sword Oath is a flat 20% buff to Auto Attack only.
Fight or Flight is a blanket damage buff to everything.

Sword Oath is only really useful if you're trying to offtank and just damage or temporarily swap to with bloodbath for bigger heals.

It's also useful if the incoming damage is low enough that you won't need Shield Oath. In fact, Shield Oath is designed to be the defensive version of Sword Oath. The increased enmity on it is meant to make up for the fact you're doing less damage thus generating less enmity from damage.

i need help with the cutscene viewer. i skipped the cutscenes for endgame duty
rock the castrum or something like that
. now i can't view them at home at the inn. only the first one of that segment that i watched.

so you have to watch a cutscene in full to unlock it at the inn? that's new to me.

Is that the quest for the Sultana?
Make sure you are ignoring the mage and just concentrating on his summon. Once the summon is dead then go after the mage.

Don't fight the hood guy, AT ALL. Game is misleading you when it says to defeat him. Focus on the Gargoyle mob, bring a Antidote and do your best damage to the gargoyle. At a certain % of the gargoyles HP, Thancred will appear to give help/heal you.

Hows the combat?

The combat's not amazingly unique, unlike something like Tera, but it does offer a lot of variety in being able to switch classes, so you never feel bored with how you're playing.
Limit Breaks are a nice addition to the group combat, and there is some tactical necessity in avoiding enemy attacks, especially in dungeons, where you need to use the environment to your advantage.
Also, they're adding PVP stuff soon.
Basically, like all of the game systems in the game, it's not setting a new standard in the genre, but it does them all very well (unlike XIV, which was broken)
The game really shines with its presentation.

Oh, haha. I hope his minion has way less HP than the mage. I was hardly hurting him.

I have to defend FATEs slightly.

They encourage 20-40 people to work together to get the most out of it, even encouraging them to group up, and it's all done so naturally. No matter how mob-like it is, people WANT to work together to reap the benefits. It is better EXP than questing for sure, but you'll have very little money by not doing quests.

It's 'broken' EXP because people happily work together/party up to complete them as fast as possible. Will this always be the case once there's less people in those areas mowing through them? It may fix itself once there's less people clocking them within the first 1-2 minutes of their appearance.

I can't think of any alternatives, it sure beats solo questing my way to max level like I've done in other games. Dungeons do need an EXP boost or something, very little reward for so much work. I made sure to do as many quests as I could that were level appropriate on my first class.
