I'm doing the final dungeon later, if I find annoying people telling me to not watch the plot (I already have some in the garuda one which I ignored), I'll just leave. Good luck finding another tank.

The speed runs from 1.0 seem to be returning in full force which is kinda a shame as I didn't like those. I have yet to heal for a group who didn't want to speed run Amdapor's Keep. And they always skip that minion chest that I want. MMO players really annoy me sometimes with their MUST RUSH NOW personalities.

It's really the only dungeon you can even bother doing that on at the moment I believe. YoshiP mentioned in 1.0 that he wanted to eliminate speedruns all together. I get the feeling we'll see AK speedruns disappear eventually with a patch.

Thanks that pretty much sold me on it xD

Hows the combat?

Combat is good because:
  • Stat weight is heavy, you get 30 points to distribute from Lv10 to Lv50 and they matter in min/max, no fluff
  • All skills are based on Potency, so they scale appropriately each level/gear so there's no learning a skill 9 times or 9 versions of it
  • Enmity skills on Tanking classes has a 3x modifier, so it's very easy to hold threat if you know what you're doing
  • All classes benefit from "combos" where most skills give a unique proc to a following skill
  • Death has little penalty, gear degrades slowly, characters have 3 hit zones (front, flank, rear)
  • Enemy special attacks show a red zone on the ground as well as a cast bar, very convenient

There's literally nothing people can do if you're watching the cutscene.
If they want to bitch, that's their prerogative. Personally I tank and 90% of the time I group with a WHM friend so if one of us isn't moving, no one is.

nobody knows? kk, guess ill just watch them next run and ignore the "skip and watch at inn" requests. i got fooled.

You definitely should ignore those people.
I, too, heard that some scenes aren't viewable at the inn.

All the scenes are available in the Inn, just under different sections. There is the section dedicated directly to dungeons/instances, and another specific for stories. It's weird that story dungeons aren't in both to make them a bit easier and the inclusion of a 'play all' or 'next' would be cool, but it's nice to watch them again if you missed anything.

I'd say ignore them too since players should be able to recognize when people are new to a dungeon and want to watch the cut scenes.

On gathering from the prior page. I'm lvl 24. Does anyone have a guide of areas for levels yet. I haven't mined since 1.0 and really don't know where I can go out to.

Gotta get everything done before the 30 free days are up so you can complain about how bad the game is and talk about the next great MMO on the horizon!

Yeah, I guess. It sucks because just once I would like to run that dungeon the legit way and explore it fully, but even my friends only want to do speed runs. -shrug- I might see if they will at least get the minion chest a few times. This may sound blasphemous to some people but I hope they fix the speed run exploit. Could be fixed by making all enemies aggro to your party and not just the player who aggroes. That might fix it. I can't imagine SE intended players to be able to skip 90% of the dungeons.

Are you looking under the Duty section of the book in the inn room? All mine from that dungeon were in there.

I blame the design. Ampador is the best source of Tomes, so anyone looking to build a full darklight set is probably going to run the place 60+ times. It doesn't help that the trash is also painfully boring and plentiful.

I've yet to run it. Should I have at least a few pieces of gear from the lower tier set before going in or can I run it as is with the gear I have (AF and 35+ accessories)? I am a WHM btw if that does matter.

Yeah, I agree. It is such a great source of tomes for both mythology and philosophy. And assuming you have a good group, pretty fast. I enjoy the bosses of the dungeon, but the trash is pretty bleh.

What does this mean? I just started leveling a tank yesterday. Do you mean aggro gaining skills gain 3 times as much aggro if they are used on a tank class when compared to using the same skill on a non-tank class?

I'm trying to convince myself to stick it out with this game because I loved FFXI so much, at least getting my WHM job and playing a bit, but I'm finding it difficult. I love group play, but this cross-server DF'ing is making it difficult to meet people that I can run with regularly, and the solo content is absolutely mind-numbing.

Do you guys start forming groups for the later dungeons on-server, or is it the Duty Finder the whole way?

Maybe I should find an FC here on Cactuar or something, but I don't play enough to apply at a more organized FC and I really don't want to join one of those ones where people are /shout'ing for members. Ugh.

Tell me there's hope, GAF.

It isn't that bad, so AF is fine. It is more about learning the mechanics than a gear check. If you don't mind spoilers, might want to watch a video of the bosses before going in. Especially Demon Wall.

Full AF+lvl 49 quest rewards are good enough. I've seen some folks claiming you need ifrit weapons, ect but that's ridiculous. It's really more of a mechanics check than gear.

I can't take any Lalafel in the story seriously. Especially if they're sporting an evil mustache. Oh baby is upset.....

Are you insulting my waifu?

You should have played with GAF so you would be in a FC automatically.

What's wrong w/ joining one where people are shouting for members. Maybe it's full of a bunch of people like you, on a server where you don't know anyone. Try it out.

As for me I play on Sarg and I've done 5 dungeon runs now. 3 were Duty Finder, 2 were groups from GAF FC.

I almost wish the game would force you to watch the cut scene the first time through to prevent stuff like this.

I'd have no issue with this if it allowed you to skip all cut scenes after that (including ones that are just purely text). The game is pretty arbitrary regarding what you can and can not skip.

Thanks guys. Maybe I'll try a run tonight just to get started on it. Need to clear that out anyway to open up the next GC rank and offload some of these seals on level 50 gear.

Pfft i'll never rush...unless its an actual speedrun and not just a first time run through for someone in the party.

Besides that, whats the point of dungeon diving if you dont snag all the chests?

Once you get to the level where you can mine/harvest from that area, it should show in your journal. Dunno about about fishing tho

Fishing doesnt tell you, but the bait gives you an idea of where to use it.

Also, crafting is a little random in this but way more controllable than most games. Get a high enough craftsmanship stat and you can really HQ stuff on a regular basis.
I prefered the older crafting and gathering systems. I'm a little sad to see those go away.

Yep, it's awesome! Typically, MMOs have a disintegrating threat amount, but not FFXIV, it just uses a raw HP equivalency value and thus as your raw DMG increases, you can always count on the Increased Enmity 3x modifier to deliver that amount. No diminishing returns on threat. This makes our jobs easier and makes the STR & Attack Power amounts matter.

So, using a DMG boost ability with an Increased Enmity skill has huge return!

Are any bards using some attribute points on Piety for song duration, or all in on Dexterity for max bow dmg?

Only Dex. In my experience so far my songs are pretty weak. I've used ballad in a dungeon once. Haven't had a BLM in my party since I got Foe Requiem. I'm actually really disappointed in Bard from the song stand point. I LOVED Bard in XI. This just seems like they tacked on songs to a Ranger.

Oh? Nice.

I don't know. As a tank myself I like to carefully mark enemies, choose which groups to tacke first and even wait for the best opportunitties to do so. I hate when people put me preassure to go fast, even more the first times running a dungeon.

If anything fates could use a small tone down and dungeons a good boosting. I guess Square could argue that loot in dungeons should be enough reason to run them multiple times... but people rarely care about best-in-slot until endgame.

The only problem is poor DPS would be screwed if you tweaked dungeons and fates too much.

My problem with making dungeons better than fates is that with fates you HAVE to work with people on your server. This builds community. Dungeons? You can go in alone on duty finder and never interact with anyone.

You don't work with anyone in fates. It's a gang bang, and sometimes you party up for it.

I've exchanged more words in 5 minutes in a dungeon than I did in all the fates I've done added together.

This is the first MMO, of many, that has ever gotten me to enjoy crafting and gathering. Something about these minigames and actually feeling like I have control over what I'm doing that makes it fun. I've spent more time working on getting MIN/BSM to 50 than working on my Paladin gear.

Go work out or something, quit playing so much, lol ;)

Can someone explain Arcanist to me, I still don't get their roles. Do they always have to be a DPS&healer or is it;

Arcanist = DPS/Heal
Summoner = Full DPS
Scholar = Full healer

I wouldn't say arcanists are healers. they can heal the first few dungeons, but they aren't healers.
