Your favorite obscure console feature

Pairing Youtube to my phone/tablet/laptop through my PS3 and playing music/videos through my tv is awesome and I use it daily. What not-so-marketed feature of a given console is your favorite?

I loved the feature my SNES would make when smoke would start coming out it's back, it was like a cozy camp fire!

The cubes used to freak me out as a kid when they turned red.

The Dreamcast's browser.

For... "special" purposes as a teenager with parents that checked PC browser histories.

edit: also for legit gaming purposes, the Dreamcast with a VGA adapter was incredible. That feel of "HD".

Streaming music from the computer in another room while playing 360 games. I loved how it smartly replaced the in game music but the sound effects were kept intact. Also custom soundtracks on the original Xbox while cruising around in GTA.

I really like how the DS/Lite would play a special startup jingle on your birthday. It was a tiny thing, but it was nice.

Holding Z on the GCN to play a different startup tune (and holding it on all four controllers for another) was also pretty neat!

I love this. Confirmed to be coming back for Xbox One! :)

Well, custom soundtracks at least. Hopefully you'll still be able to stream from a computer or directly from your iPod like you can on 360. Also, hopefully they'll add support for streaming music services like Pandora or Spotify.

I'm not sure if this qualifies as a console feature but when sonic and knuckles came out and I could plug in sonic 3 on top of it... It was awesome.

My little brother still runs out of the room when the PS2 boots up and it gets the red screen error. The red screen of death he calls it.

Holy shit, I remember being on the brink of crying when I first saw that. I was eight or nine at the time, and immediately turned off the PS2.

Probably just the apps like Twitch and Youtube... If I was getting a Xbox One I think the snap feature can be neat..

Achievement Stamp, Gotta Know when i got that achievement even though i dont care about them anymore. Is that coming back to X1?

Not exactly obscure but...I like it when you hover over a game on the XMB and it changes the background/plays music.

Yeah, certain games such as Ridge Racer allowed it. I think it's because the race would be loaded into the RAM, while the music would still be steamed from the CD.

In the original Animal Crossing on GameCube, the entire game could be played without the disc.

Sega Saturn's pitch changer. I used to throw in stuff like Doggystyle and either put it on Barry White mode or Chipmunk mode.

Putting music CDs into a PS1 during gameplay to change the music.

I used to do that with early PS1 games too. I would throw in All Eyez On Me Disc 2 when I played Loaded, and it would almost always played Track 1, "U Can't C Me" while I went around blowing out brains with giant laser streams as a giant baby. OG custom soundtrack. As long as I put the game back in before exiting the level, it would load in just fine.
