New Zelda Wind Waker HD videos

Thank you! Looks so good! :o

Edit: I can't save it through the 3ds browser, nooo! :(
Will have to go to a internet cafe tomorrow anyway, I change it there.

I really like how the UI on the screen has some stuff moved over to the Gamepad so it looks much cleaner and there's more space on the screen to see the bloom.

I'm going to buy the Wii U Wind Waker bundle, but I think I'm going to sell the code and wait for the physical version.

Anyone else in the same boat?

There probably is no code, the game is likely pre-installed like it is on any 3DS bundle.

Hmm are the framerate drops a youtube thing or does the game have those drops"? I would rather have 720 if it means stable framerate...

As mentioned a page or so ago, that is all the game. It's been in the original as well. That is deliberate slowdown as the game is generally very smooth.

There's no UI moved to the gamepad. It's disabled completely.

guys, do you think that in this video at the min 0:06/7 the framerate drops below 60 fps?

No since a) youtube doesn't do 60 and b) the game is not 60 frames as has been discussed extensively on the last page.

Drops happen once in a bloomoon...

Augh those avatars, maybe I should stay out of the OT when that goes up, or I risk going blind.

GAF will be BLOOMED! Bloomed I tells ya!

Should go down well with those using the dark theme during night time with full pc monitor brightness

So it'll be like that in the full game or is it just for video capturing purposes? I can understand how we wouldn't need the controller layout on the top right, but I could see the map being moved to the GamePad and and Inventory there as well.

Well this looks amazing

It astounds me how bad Nintendo is at marketing their games sometimes. You have skyward sword, which they showed off with basically dolphin shots of the game... Versus wind Waker HD, where they used the ugliest, bloom filled screens they could find to promote the game.

Unreal.

Did you catch my post about GameXplain tweeting that you can skip the opening prologue but none of the other cutscenes?

Let's not use a title about bloom. It's just so fuckin overplayed at this point. I don't like negative OT titles, even if they're jokes. Gets shit off on the wrong foot from day 1.
I disagree, and in fact I want us to use the subtitle you suggested: "I coveted that bloom, I suppose." It's a funny and self-aware nod to the most noticeable change people have been discussing in this HD remake, something they'll inevitably talk about regardless of subtitle, so might as well have a little fun. :)

You can disable it yourself, just like in Skyward Sword.

The press release says that the bundle comes with a download code for the game.

Oh okay, fair enough them. Still weird.

Wind Waker HD has two modes of lighting. The global world lighting is still using toon-shading, but anytime there is a local light source, it overrides the global lighting and becomes claymation like. If you check out the videos where Link picks up torches, you'll see that as he gets closer to the torch, the art style starts to take on a claymation look. This is also why the moblins don't have the circle light and use a real light source instead, because their lantern is a local light source.

In this shot, the sword is a local light source, which gives Link the claymation look

Interesting. Looks like you're right

They were quite conservative. Not saying it's necessarily a bad thing but just looking at it as an "outsider" I honestly think some of those characters could have used more of an upgrade. Maybe even including Link.

Game looks colorful and pretty but that's always the case with Nintendo isn't it.

The super clean colors and new lighting engine make more of a difference then any bump in character polycounts ever could for a game like Wind Waker.

Not that I think it would have been a unnecessary just a lot more effort for less of an improvement.

So in response to the "not enough changes" crowd, let me list off the top of my head the things I know are new. The lists most people give to prove this point are extremely truncated.

- Widescreen 1080p with complete re-rendered/drawn textures, a brand new lighting engine, and a variety of new graphical effects
- Redone music, emphasis on still sounding like "Wind Waker" while improving samples and incorporating new elements
- Select "hero mode" at any time on file select to double enemy damage and remove recovery hearts
- Five of the eight Triforce pieces are now found in the chests that used to contain maps to their sunken locations, eliminating the need to acquire 1990 rupees to decipher the charts
- Dredging up treasure from the ocean now takes approximately half as much time, animation-wise
- The Wind Waker can be conducted via the GamePad touchscreen, and the second playthrough of a song you conduct has been removed, speeding up the process of conducting any song
- After playing the Wind's Requiem, the camera pans behind Link, and points in the direction you want the wind to go, instead of panning above him with an arrow
- You can acquire the "Swift Sail" relatively early on in the game, which doubles the speed the King of Red Lions sails when you press the A button (this only works because the entire ocean is now loaded in RAM at once, so there is no need to sail slow while loading new areas)
- The Wind Waker, boat cannon, and boat grapple for pulling up treasure are all mapped to directions on the d-pad, so they no longer require equipping and the taking up of button-inventory space. You also no longer need to equip the sail, it is mapped to the A button when you are in the boat.
- When aiming the cannon in the boat, you now have an aiming reticule
- The clouds over the great sea have been completely redesigned in a more lush and realistic style, while remaining fully weather-dynamic
- You can walk while in first-person, and walk while aiming items like the bow and arrow
- You can aim your first-person items using the GamePad gyroscope, like in OOT3D (useful for fine tweaking once you use the stick to put the cursor in the general place you want it)
- The pictobox now holds up to 10 12 photos, increased from 3
- The pictobox displays a "Great!" emblem when you successfully take a picture of a character to have a figure made, so you know if your photo was good enough without having to take it to the guy first
- The touchscreen inventory on the GamePad allows for easier assigning of items to buttons
- You can find bottles on the beach that contain messages from other Wind Waker players via Miiverse, and put your own messages in the sea the same way
- When sailing, you can have the map on the GamePad screen, making it much easier to position your boat when looking for treasure. The treasure map you have will display smaller next to your main map, so you can place your boat in the correct place. You used to have to keep pulling the map up over and over, often overshooting your point.
- When you start the game, your wallet's maximum capacity is 500 rupees, rather than 200
- I bet I'm forgetting some stuff I'll be annoyed about later

When most people think about a remake, I think they usually want "more content." Additional items, dungeons, quests, etc. This is probably where the "not enough" sentiment comes from. It's been made clear, though, that this is a remaster, not a remake. And when you consider that category of release, you can see that there has been a significant amount of work done here relative to other remastering efforts. It aims to improve the core "Wind Waker" experience, rather than add to it. The list reads like a series of patch notes, and with good reason. This is a remaster that aims to provide the very best Wind Waker you can get, and it seems to achieve that handily.
Just wanted to bump this excellent post from pg. 8, and add to it, "Off-TV Play" and "selfies," unless I overlooked these items.

Do you guys think copies of this will be plentiful or will it become scarce like Xenoblade or something shortly after release. This looks incredible but money's tight and my backlog is huge. Want to get this months after release ideally.

It's a pretty high profile release compared to the Gamestop exclusive Xenoblade. I imagine it won't be too hard to come by a few months from now. Worst case scenario, just get it off the eShop.

I doubt they'll make it like Xenoblade, considering Zelda is one of their mainstream IPs that sells a ton in America. I doubt they'll ship less than 500,000 copies.

I'm curious how many of these "oddities" are still present in the HD version:

from: Zelda: Wind waker Tech and Texture Analysis

With the original game, the environment did not cast shadows, and was not lit properly, but with vertex colouring, which is a basic version of baked in lights. The light from light sources was faked also.

The same applies to the characters. Each character has a light assigned to it, and its position is changed as you approach light sources. and with the lighting and particle effects.

With Wind Waker HD, all the environments, objects, character cast true shadows, and the fake light sources have been replaced with real lighting. Extra lights are used as well as ambient occlusion and translucency effects.

Looks like they've amended it if I'm not mistaken...Watch the below vid at around 60s in.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=eL1soR5EFVo#t=59

They've gone for a realistic, washed approach with the ligthing in this game to fit the games overall new look. I like the original more, maybe it still would've looked good in WW HD, but it probably would've been inconsistent with the rest of the lighting.

Sky makes me want Zelda Wii U to be another round of Skyward Sword-like open world. Right idea for the wrong console. That extra Wii U hardware buff could work wonders for something like that.

Yes, yes and yes. I've been saying this for a while. SS is perfect for the Wii in so many ways, but it's also a game that's way too ambitious for the hardware.
