For a second I was bummed, that I was stuck with the inferior first SKU but I personally don't have a problem with my Vita's battery life and OLED > LCD so it actually paid off, getting one earlier.
I missed the part where they showed the new SKU. Does it look any different?

Depends on the game. Some patches are small, others are big (like Killzone Mercenary has a 1.1GB patch). But at least it is good enough for save games. Patching is optional afterall.

Sorry, I came across harsher than I meant. I suppose it is a year earlier than the PSP 2000, but it's right in line with Nintendo's standard

Plus it's not like your Vita's going to stop working. It'll still work just as well--and it'll still have the better screen
