VITA NEW MODEL Announced with built in 1GB memory!!

Im assuming that Sony is doing the 1Gb for save files for games because i was expecting a 16Gb model.

I'll buy a cheap oled version next payday.

64GB card is nice, but I doubt the price will be. $150?

Depends on the game. Some patches are small, others are big (like Killzone Mercenary has a 1.1GB patch). But at least it is good enough for save games. Patching is optional afterall.

Probably not optional if you're playing an online game though, right?

The 1GB means that technically, you don't need a card to play your Vita. That's a huge negative gone. The complaints of Mura with OLED is gone even though this just means I'll treasure my OG Vita all the more now. The 64GB card is amazing though. Hopefully it's $100 MSRP and is sold at $80.

I was going to tell everyone here complaining about the 1 GB built in memory that it's meant for savegames but then I realized that save data is stored with the game.
What's the point? Photos? Barely any music?

This model is good for anyone that doenst really wanna go digital heavy. You can buy a vita and just buy the games you want. Instead of having to waste money on a memory card right away.

No OLED means no chance for burn-in and that weird OLED screen effect when viewing large dark regions, right? I might actually prefer that, chances for screen damage make me nervous about OLED.

We don't even know about the west yet, but assuming it's coming to the west, judging by the sales, you'll be able to find an OLED Vita for a long time.

I doubt they're reducing the oped models price again. They'll ship the new one exclusively after the oled runs out

Its probably mostly intended for save games i would guess.

Saves are bundled up into the game right? This seems more like memory for smaller PSN games and the apps and maybe for multimedia storage so that you're not using any of your memory card for that stuff and have more room for actual games.

OP should add this!

from the amazing livestream-thread. Waiting for the meltdowns there...

So 1 GB onboard memory and in return no OLED

and some fanciful colors

that's it.

1 gb is not enough for me...

lol 1 GB is enough to store like 1 game

Missing the point I reckon...

Well the 1 GB is obviously so people can at least play physical games right out of the gate.

Ding ding ding!

At 1GB its very obvious they aren't intending for anyone to store their entire library internally. But the issue of needing a card to play a physical title was stupid and needed to go.

This will solve that just nicely.

Can't wait to upgrade. I play my Vita at night and the screen has this weird stained look in dark scenes that's apparently normal on the handheld. Excited to it have to deal with it.

I hope NA gets those colprs.

There will probably just be co-existence for a while at the same price point. It's how it worked with all the other PSP models when I bought mine anyways.

Now, how long should the Vita's OLED screen last? Is the tech especially long lasting so it stays bright 20 years from now? Moreso than others, a replacement Vita screen may be especially hard to find.

Yeah they aren't going to keep the OLED Model in production. This is all about maximizing profits now. Turn the Vita Profitable and just let it go. No matter how many it sells from that point on Sony will at least be making money. However long OLED models lastg will be upto supply chain and what's available. It could push sales up short term as people decide OLED is what they prefer.

Phew, thank god it doesnt have OLED. I think my Vita model is still superior just for the OLED alone.

A bit annoyed about 64GB announcement, I JUST got 32GB, though I got it for £39.99, which is cheaper than usual. Hopefully 32GB will suffice for my vita needs

What's the difference between LCD and OLED?
IMO colors are deeper, and OLED has much better contrast ratio. Probably looks like this image I found via a quick google image search:

OLED-Contrast-compared-to-LCD.jpg

LCD on the other hand seems to be better when trying to view the screen under direct sunlight.

Newer LCD tech looks to be improving screen quality greatly. If the vita uses the same stuff found in the latest phones still using LCDs, I guess this isn't going to be much of an issue.

Now about the 64gb card, I wonder what astronomical price will that be tagged with.

Mine has some PS+ games I haven't touched. It's more than ample.

Might get a new model for the gf if I can find one cheap. I'm all over that 64gb card, though. Day fucking one. That's been my only real complaint with my Vita: I can't hold all these games.
