Yes, they said they were checking them before sending them out, this last shield I received has a much better DPAD. Nothing I'd put on the level of say Vita's DPAD, but it's nowhere as bad as the Shields I had before it.
All I can recommend is to keep on RMA'ing if you're not satisfied. They overnight these things to you and you don't even have to send yours in first.
They had actually sent me two shield replacements, before I even sent one back. Customer service is great, just wish the quality control was at the same level.
I'm lucky I got working dpad then (it's early Shield too,got it first week of august)
any word on new fw to fix the slowness going with the UI because of system Update 59?
Uh, I won one of these things at PAX. I'm at the airport wondering what I can do with this thing. I don't have a good video card so I guess I can't stream? At all? Not even movies?
So what can I do with this? Just android tablet?

Nothing other than they're working on a new update, somebody on one of the forums I visit says they spoke with Nvidia customer service and were told to expect another update this month.
I'd buy it off yaOr you can sell it for easy money![]()
Its pretty much the fastest android device out now at the moment. I even ran the same benchmarks sites like gsmarena did with some new snapdragon 800 phones coming out and eventhough those are newer (and supposedly faster than tegra 4?), I'm still outscoring them. That means it runs just about any emulator you can throw at it if that's your thing. Android games also seem to run flawlessly.Uh, I won one of these things at PAX. Thanks for the pics. I'm definitely getting one of these now.

Retroarch runs things incredibly well. I'd like to pick up some Android games that are really good and utilize it well, but I really don't know what does or where to look for such.

Dead Trigger 2 looked damn amazing when I tried it. I wonder though if it has real Tegra 4 exclusive effects (the original's exclusive effects ran on other non tegra devices just as good).http://www.tegrazone.com/ (look for games with "controller icon work)
and look for featured games here
http://shield.nvidia.com/play-android-games
anyway if you are looking for game that take advantage of Tegra gpu (add special effect and other stuff), search for Tegra Optimized games, like Dead Trigger (the upcoming Dead Trigger 2 will be as well), Blood Sword, Demons Score THD, Dark Meadow: The Pact, The Conduit HD, Burn Zombie Burn, Blood Mansion, Dead on Arrival 2, Riptide GP 2 and other

Anyway, I just realized that I could stream just about anything through Steam's Big Picture mode:
Pcsx2 without the need to sit in front of a TV or use my computer!
Im sold on this thing but need guidance
Can it play Dark Douls??? Purchase is hanging on this.
I dont have any PCs with nvidia GPUs, so Im reading that I need a GTX 650, how is that card for gaming at 720p? I have a server rig under my stairs with a i7 2600k and I was thinking about putting the 650 there exclusively for the shield.
Im trying to spend as litle as possible to get this working, im thinking about buying the 650 for $100 and then the Shield.
According to the community spreadsheet it does(except for the Dark Souls: Prepeare to Die Editon apparently), check it out: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Al_tgDiSllFFdGhJQ3p3d1JDTU0wS3IyNjVxdDB6MVE#gid=0
I have no idea about the GTX 650.

There is only one Dark Souls in PC, the spreadsheet says that it works and that it doesntweird
I see, I didn't know that.
It seems some people have been able to and some are having issues.

There are much cheaper emulator choices, lol.
Here you go, with one hand lolSo no one that has the Shield can try Dark Souls for me??

Works perfectly on my old router. I use dsfix + 60 fps by the way in case you wanted to know, but the stream on shield is limited to 30fps
Always buy emu's by Robert Broglia. Seriously.Noticed some emulators are a hit and miss so I'm using GBC.emu right now which is a pay for one. Anyhow.
GB/GBC has perfect pixels in native aspect ratio.

SNES games have perfect pixels it seems too. This particular screen shot is stretched, however it keeps the perfect pixels without any blur despite being stretched. My camera is lousy so the screenshot sucks big time compared to how it looks in person. But you can get a full, clear screen with SNES games.

I'm still trying to get my feel on the device before I post my actual impressions, but I will say the bumpers kind of suck for video games.
'm guessing you don't want to remove that sticker until you get a screen protector or something?

OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD!!!
It runs PERFECTLY.

It feels exactly like playing a Wii U game on the Wii U Game Pad. I'm just using some comcast router at that! OH MY GOD! WOOO!!!! YEAHHHHH
I had to right click steam and make sure the compatibility stuff was unchecked in all users, but after that everything runs perfect.
Yep. Haha.
I'll check those out! thanks!
Please tell me how you did this, im setting everything up right now!
Played some FFXIV on it, it doesn't run as well as Dolphin does oddly enough. However, it's playable and that's all that matters to me.

Here's Tenkaichi 3 for Wii.

Surprisingly enough, Melee felt really good to play on this despite the 30 FPS streaming.
1. Go to your Steam directory and find Steam.EXE in "Crogram Files (x86)Steam".

2. Right click Steam.EXE and go to Properties.
3. Go to compatibility tab and make sure all compatibility modes, including in all user settings, are UNCHECKED.

4. On Steam itself, add a non-steam game and just add Dolphin.EXE from your folder.
5. Now that it's added to steam, connect to your PC in the Shield Menu then select Steam.
6. Now go to your games lists and find "dolphin" and start it up. It'll appear on both screens. Just click a game and walla, you're playing a Gamecube on a portable.
Notes:
1. Before connecting your PC to the shield, make sure your PC has completely booted up if you've restarted or else you'll connect before some Nvidia processes are ready.
2. If it doesn't work, reboot your computer.
3. Add the steam directory in Geforce Experience if Steam doesn't show up

this thread is making me consider the Shield just for that streaming function...
Already is tegra 4Tempted to grab one later this month when I'm not poor, worried the price will drop or they will put a revision out immediately given the kind of device it is. Is there any chance they will put out one with a Tegra 4 any time soon?
