About time he stepped up. Was getting sick of being compared to a chump. Now all he gotta do is drop the Fubu and Dada and we gravy.

TMN - 4/5
TC - 5/5
NWTS - 4.5/5

Hip hop legend

TML - 6.5/10
TC - 7.5/10
NWTS - 8/10

I think Drake has improved with every album. TML was decent. TC was a huge improvement. NWTS is his best album to date track by track, but I still don't think it's cohesive enough to really be regarded as an amazing album.
I enjoy the dude's music though.

Kiss Land - 10/10

Listening to It now, really liking it so far. It's reminding me of some of his earlier mixtapes like comeback season and room for improvement

After letting it sink in and giving it another full listen, I like it, but it definitely doesn't reach Take Care for me.

There was something I found enthralling about Take Care, but this isn't grabbing me nearly as much, and I'm not fond of how the songs affect the flow of the album. I don't think (all of) the songs or album is bad, but Take Care felt more focused and consistent, with his usual topics feeling fresher. Think I got a bit burned out on the (ex) girlfriends, flings, strippers, and strained relationships with family/friends that tend to be the focal point of many of his album songs.

Something decent to add to the rotation though and I think two or three songs on the album fit in among his best stuff, so I'm satisfied with it.

Simple rhymes and one note crooning, it's Drizzy Drake season again I see.

Actually I thought his previous album was good and had some well written songs. NWTS' first half isn't bad, but it pretty much crashes in the second half. Forgettable album. I will say you can tell he approached Pound Cake with the intention of holding his own against Jay...but Jay didn't even show up. He's literally just spewing lines that rhyme off the top of his head, nothing sticking or making an impact.

I can imagine Kendrick laughing as he realizes no one is in his path.

What. No. There are a few rappers more talented.

I'm talking overall talent, which includes r&b + rapping. His r&b melodies are criminally catchy and he's already proven rap wise he will kill anyone on their own shit

This album is on heavy rotation in my house/car. I'm still catching lines that make me smile. It's nice to have an album you can hit play and just sit back.
'

One of those rare hip hop albums you play front to back

So happy that there seems to be no involvement from any of the young money assholes. Drake on this album seems to have fully found his own identity.

besides the Birdman trash talk at the end of Language, it's good to see no Lil Wayne or Niki on this (even though they weren't bad at all Take Care)

I didn't think Jay on pound cake was that bad. He was on some more shit though when he started spamming "cake" every line. He doesn't give a fuck any more. Him on Kill my vibe is an example of not even showing up.

After being lukewarm on this album I ended up listening to it back to back many times this week.

Will buy. Ken Masters redeemed.

Isn't this Jaden Smith's face during Drake's VMA performance?

Huh, this seems to be available on Google music already.

Gonna download and see what the fuss is about. People talk about Drake like a megastar but his profile in Australia is zip.

It was released on iTunes here in Australia on the 20th, too.

Not just commercially, pure talent wise he's on another level

stanning too hard here

dudes here were callin that jigga's best verse in a minute tho...that's how low the bar was after MCHG

no. calm down. breathe.
if you want to say he's the best hip hop/R&B crossover, that's straight. rap wise he has not proven he will kill anyone on their own shit, you're thinkin of k-dot a few weeks ago or eminem before he got rich i think

Nothing Was The Same: 8.6 | BNM
The Drake Era has ended; welcome to the Drake Regime. Aubrey Graham's gone from an unlikely rapper to an accepted rapper to maybe the biggest rapper out, all in four years, and he's the genre's biggest pop crossover star. Kanye has, for the moment, stepped out of the pop-radio wars, which means that Drake currently has no meaningful competition. On Nothing Was the Same, he acts accordingly-- the mansion doors swing shut behind you and he mostly stops pretending to be nice.

Drake got the best on Kendrick on poetic justice and fuckin problems

Truth that Drake has the best hip hop album this year, easily, seems to upset you

I really like this album, although I don't know if it's as good as Take Care. There's a little too much of Drake's rhyme-less talk-singing for my tastes, and some of the lines are real groaners. I'm all for cheesy punchlines ("let the lights dim sum" and Yeezus's croissants line are great) but there's something about "she just wanna run over my feelings like she drinking and driving an 18 wheeler" that's more just stupid than funny. "I'll be here just swangin'" is such a terrible hook, too.

Actually, I guess Connect is really the focal point of most of my complaints. I love Too Much, Furthest Thing, The Motion (I hate it when bonus tracks are the best thing on the album), and Hold On, We're Going Home. I'm going to need to give it more spins, obviously, but right now this is a solid 7 or 8 album for me.

I'd honestly be 100% fine with Drake going full 808s and releasing a pop album. HOWGH is a fucking jam.

Ninja's right, Drake is good at what he does, but he isn't killing anyone in the rap game. Drake is about as good as Kendrick on Poetic Justice, but Fuckin' Problems, no way man Kendrick murders everyone. And to say NWTS is the best hip hop album this year? Calm down it's a great album, arguably Drake's best, but Acid Rap, Doris, and Long. Live. ASAP (this could be considered 2012) are all better than it.
