Here are My Thoughts on my new Wii U

How is NintendoLand for two player? Stuff for me and the lady friend. And do I have to buy a wii u controller for her?

Pretty good, especially with stuff like the Pikmin game, or passing back and forth for Donkey Kong. But NL really shines with 3-5 players. For the second player everything can be played with just a Wiimote, except Metroid which also needs a nunchuk.

I got my Wii U last week. I think it's pretty awesome. It's like the 3DS in that every 2-5 months a game will come out that is amazing and unlike anything on other systems. PC gaming supplements with it well, no lack of quantity on PC.

For Nintendo land you don't need a controller pro but it might be wise to get in on one now since the white ones are around $20 now.

It is a great game for single player, 4/5 players and two player(I really like the Zelda one)

And when you play Zelda Battle Quest, you will need a Wii Motion Plus attachment, or a Wii Remote Plus.

Playing with the gamepad in Wind Waker HD is great because you can toggle back and forth between your map, items, and bottles without having to go through the pause menu. That and I like the Off-TV option that's there in case I ever do need it. The thumbsticks, and d-pad both feel really good too.

Awesome thread guys add me!

Im waiting for the retail copy of Wind Waker to get the figurine. Does anyone know exactly how big it is?

One thing that I found Wii U to be perfect for is playing co-op with my girlfriend. She is (was?) not a gamer. Before having the Wii U she was only tempted by Zelda SS. But starting with Nintendo Land, going through Trine 2 and The Cave, playing Lego City alternatively (unfortunately no co-op there) and now as a culmination of our multiple hours playing together we got platinum in all the Pikmin 3 co-op challenges and started a complete run in Rayman Legends. Meanwhile she is trying to get platinum in Pikmin 3 challenges also as a single player.

Splintercell blacklist is really the must have version on Wii U, the touchscreen make use of inventory a breeze. I also have MH3U which is a deep game exclusive to Wii U.

New Super Mario Bros U has excellent co-op, especially if she's someone who played a bit of Mario back in the NES/SNES days.

I want one! I'll probably only play w101, wind waker hd, earthbound and some wii stuff like alien solider and xenoblade until bayo 2 comes out though.

Good to hear you're enjoying the system. Have fun with it! I haven't noticed the loading too much after the 1st update, but I'm sure the next one (whenever it finally arrives) should make things much better.

So the load times are still a problem with the UI and game loading? A big reason I never bothered getting the system this past year(on top of a lack of account system for eshop...DD buyer here), but those patch fixes never arrived?

Still dying to get one for MH3U. How is the Wii emulation? Xenoblade look improved at all on it? Any known issues playing Wii games?

Also all this talk of Gamepad battery...just how long are we talking here?

I get around 3 hours. That's playing online CoD, MH, or ME3. It felt longer when playing single player mode of ME3 though. I'm not sure if online would effect battery life though, maybe the voice chat would?

That has been driving me crazy in Wind Waker with the Gamepad and Pro Controller! They are both comfortable to hold though.

In Wind Waker i found horrible the controls for the Bow and the Boomerang. I keep trying to move the camera with the Left Stick. It's super uncomfortable (for me) to move the camera with the Right stick due the botton placement.

The loads are still low but it doesn't seems to be the way it was when the console launched. Accessing Miiverse seems to be the lowest one. Hopefully, the next update address those loading times even more. And the battery last me like 3/4hrs in my case, but dunno if the WiiPad has some power-saving mode.

It's on par with a PS3 at the moment, slightly better to launch games, far worse to access the settings or video chat. Overal it's decent, and a major performance update has been announced for end of sept/beginning of october. Previous 2 updates have drastically enhanced loading times, it was really bad at launch.

Yeah especially when I'm playing Lego City. The loading time is so damn awful. I wonder if that's in the game or what but still...

Yes, Lego city has horrid loading times. It saddens me too, because often I really want to just pick up and play for 15 minutes. But knowing ill have 5-10 minutes of loading makes it not worth it. (it may be quicker than that, but that's how long it feels like)

It's the game. Doesn't have anything to do with the OS. It has to load a complete standard Lego indoor level and once you're done with that it has to load the entire city again which is why these load times are so long before and after you do story missions. The problem is enhanced by the terrible load screen with the same annoying Shaft-guitar playing in a bland background.

When I was watching the GTAV quick look on Giant Bomb, the load time after a story sequence was pretty much just as long (and nobody called it out) but the screen wasn't as annoying since it was just black with a loading animation and no annoying music.

TT really made it worse than it needed to be, regardless of technical inexperience.

I haven't had any issues with load times since the spring update.

It's is one of the best local multiplayer games of all time. I'm not even joking. It has Wii Sports-like approachablility but then the mechanics scale incredibly with the Metroid and Zelda multiplayer games. I've been playing it since launch with friends and we still are unable to beat the 'Advanced' missions together and it feels good to be challenged like that.

Just a friendly reminder: Wonderful 101 has co-op for up to 5 players. The story mode will take you almost 20 hours to complete and there is a ton of stuff to collect and unlock which will keep you coming back.

A must have for every Wii U owner.

I went to get the Zelda bundle today, but my local Wal-Mart, Gamestop, and K-Mart had already sold out if you can believe that shit. I ended ordering it online from BestBuy, so it should be here by the end of the week. Already have Wonderful 101 and Luigi U to play. Probably pick up Earthbound, too, never played it before.

I joined the party too. I am really enjoying the off-TV play and the asynchronous multiplayer in Rayman with my 4yo son. I hope Ninty has a solid September (and holiday) because the price drop and bundling a good game is what they needed.

Picked up Nintendo Land for $7.50 - half off at Gamestop - well worth it if that deal is still going on.

Was that new or pre-owned?

Hahahahahaha.. Get outta here. This is the first time I've seen "Wii U", and "Sold out" in the same sentence together. Keep going Nintendo, you're making strides!

I've seen Toki Tori 2 mentioned like 15 times in this thread, and thus I will have to check it out even though I had no intention of buying any new games right now. Thanks, assholes.

What's the word on screen protectors for the gamepad? Are there official ones that are preferred? Or will any tablet screen protectors do the job?

I can't speak for anyone else, but I bought a Wii U at launch and stuck the Hori one on right away and have been using it ever since and it still looks almost brand new. I like it enough that I grabbed a second one in case this one ever gets too marked up or something. Really easy to apply too.

Nice, I'll look into it, thanks!

Just for future reference: it's asymmetric. You're not doing the same THING (symmetry). It's not that you're doing stuff at different TIMES (synchronicity).
The games press constantly gets this wrong, too.
