BEYOND: Two Souls | SPOILER THREAD | SPOILER everywhere!!!

Yeah I cared too much about the character to choose anything other than life. Dont see how anyone could choose death other than just to watch all the endings. She's had a hard life especially if you make some of the rougher choices in the game.

I spoke to damn soon on that Lol just got the brothers message in the sand on the beach and I smiled again.

I chose death because she had a hard life and would continue to be either hunted or manipulated. She deserved happiness, and death with Aiden seemed right to me.

now what the hell is up with that ending? is David cage really going to do a sequel? Also I noticed in the credits there is someone standing at Jodies side compared to my ending where I was just staring at the rift in three future alone.

Yes, I've tried every option there and I choose the kiss option, get to her bed, and then she makes him stop. Im wondering if this is tied to the rape scene when you are a teenager and the choice you make there. I killed all of those guys in the bar.
yes

because of this, you wont get the 'Slept with Ryan' trophy

bah, already answered

Dammit, Replicant, I want to read through here so bad. Hopefully I can get through this by the end of tomorrow. Interesting to see that there is sequel potential in the material, though I think Cage has stated recently that he doesn't do sequels. Wouldn't rule out an "expansion", but Heavy Rain sort of soured that expectation.

yes I just left the bar so no rape scene occurred...... damn, I hope there's an online guide soon so I can figure out all the paths without constantly replaying scenes to my demise Lol

there are a few epilogues shown depending on what actions you did during the game. The girl is Tuesday's baby.

I chose life because I haven't done all this and endured so much suffering (lived years in captivity, been homeless, been used as a CIA pawn to commit war crimes, no friends, etc.) just to give up an die at the end. Jodie wanted a normal life so she deserves it.

There is no need for a sequel. Cage has already proved that his story/concept worked, what would be the point of making more of the same? Time to move on and tackle another challenge. Turning Beyond into some kind of TV show with multiple seasons would only ruin it. The 'mythology' of Beyond is thin for a reason. It doesn't need to be expanded upon.

I'm grateful that Quantic Dream doesn't do sequels and tries to do something new with each title.

Anyone else cry as they were choosing 'Beyond' at the end?To me it didn't even feel like she had a choice... Nathan was dead, her mom was dead, Aiden was dead... I really didn't care for Ryan.

And speaking of which, what happens if you save Paul? I forgot to do it twice now

I wrote a long review, but then I accidentally deleted it:

Pros:

- The acting is really genuine and well done for the most part.
- Some of the moments between Aiden and Jodie are great (shadow puppets, for instance)
- Some action sequences are interesting (most of the stuff with the paramilitary team/train/etc)
- Some of the other missions are interesting (throwing snowballs, the embassy mission, etc)

Cons:

- The controls fought me from the start.

- Really? She nearly starves in a cold climate before nearly starving in a hot climate? Does she not understand how seasons work?

- Between the plight of the homeless, the plight of Native Americans, and the plight of child soldiers, the game is a tad bit preachy. By a tad, I mean a whole lot, to its own detriment.

- They seem to have figured out that the "infraworld" (groan) is the land of the dead/some sort of limbo/etc, but no one asks Aiden if there is a God, what it's like to be dead, etc. People are only interested in opening portals for military reasons, but the whole "chaining dead people to soldiers" thing never really seemed like a plan anyone would have come up with. They never show any of them either, even though that could have been an interesting obstacle between Jodie and shutting down the condenser.

- The writing was pretty bad. I had specific examples, but alas, those are gone. The writing for childhood Jodie was probably some of the worst for me, with her not being believable as a child at all. I know she's growing up fast thanks to the monsters and such, but we see another child in Africa who actually acts like a child and the difference is jarring.

- Two menus of endgame options? Really? In Heavy Rain, you could fuck up a button press and end up with a different ending. That's how I remember it anyway. If those are rose tinted glasses, I digress. The menu's didn't suit BTS though, and the tension melted away when I was given all the time I wanted to choose.

- Speaking of tension, all tension was gone due to the narrative structure of the story. By the time anyone I cared about (Cole) was in mortal danger, I knew that "death" wasn't really that horrible (Nathan blows his brains out and then shows up in a clearly better place). The characters I met along the way felt very exploitative (pregnant woman, Native Americans, child soldier) and I didn't care if any of them lived or died. Honestly, I felt more like I was along for the ride and not as if I were actively influencing what was happening as often as I'd have liked.

- Dafoe heel turn. It had to happen, I guess.

I gave the game an 8.5/10 in the other thread, and I stick by that. There's no reason why the controls have to be borked this long after the invention of the dual analog stick controller and the 3D third person game. Instead of a choose your own adventure game, this was more of a choose your ending game, and that didn't sit well with me. The acting was great though, and there's clearly something to be said of getting real actors and teams like Quantic together. Now if only someone could write a better scenario and nail the controls. I don't think I'm being unreasonable at all for dinging them for either misstep.

I chose life as well, even though seeing a clearly happier Nathan made that a difficult choice. For some reason, I chose Ryan just based on the other two options being unappealing to me (back with the homeless to improve their lot I guess, or back with the Navajo to do the same. Either way seemed like kind of a terrible life, and I knew whoever she was with wouldn't be safe for long anyway).

now what the hell is up with that ending? is David cage really going to do a sequel? Also I noticed in the credits there is someone standing at Jodies side compared to my ending where I was just staring at the rift in three future alone.

I really think the ending is just acknowledgement that Pandora's Box has been opened, and not necessarily setup for a sequel. I don't think a sequel is likely, unless there's just a surge of demand for it. That person you saw by her side was probably Ryan, because that's who was there in my game. Maybe that changes slightly depending on different things.

I spoke to damn soon on that Lol just got the brothers message in the sand on the beach and I smiled again.

That was one of my favorite moments in the game. Them communicating (instead of her talking at him) could have been a lot bigger part.

About the sex scene, I did nothing special (cleaning, cooking, sexy clothes) and got it.

I tried to make it happen and couldn't. Sexy clothes, cleaned, cooked, and she freaked out about what happened in the bar years ago. I wasn't that distraught.

I never told Ryan I love him. I told him repeatedly that I didn't in fact. For trying to create a romance they started him off on a bad foot by being an asshole when she was a teen and he came to pick her up. Then you jump almost immediately into the date with him and we are supposed to be like the guy? Then he is an asshole again after Somalia. Plus how old is this guy? He appeared to already be 30+ when he came to pick her up as a teenager. It just wasn't believable. Then with the Navajo chapter the brother that is actually nice and caring you end up ignoring at the end and the asshole one is the one it gives you the option to kiss and end up with? I ended up choosing to live with the homeless people my first play through as they seemed the most genuine and caring about Jodie.

I didn't know there was a bar scene. I suppose you have to successfully escape from the research center with Cole? On my first playthrough the guard didn't let me leave and on the second, Cole snapped out of Aiden's possession as he was in the car...

Seems like I've missed a whole scene. I'll have to replay the chapter.

Yeah, that was kinda stupid. I like the fact he displays self-confidence and doesn't fuck around (I like people who are task/goal-oriented) but he's still an arrogant asshole and left he too bad a first impression.

Yeah its a crazy scene if you take revenge on the guys in the bar. Very violent.

I wonder if there truly is a 100% true ending like heavy rain had. To me it seems almost impossible but I would say choosing life would be it, as when Jodie eventually dies anyways she will join Aiden and everyone else in the otherworld, so she can finally live a normal life like she always wanted.

But I can already see a ton of music videos made with 3 Doors Down with this game already popping on youtube within the next month.....which is fine if they are well edited but damn I remember a few final fantasy AMV's that truly captivated me years down the road and bringing out tons of memories.

BRING IT ON WORLD!

Dear David Cage,

End it. The Lord of the Rings fell flat in this regard as well.

Sincerely,
The Treechopper

I have to say though that this game was a great experience that I thoroughly enjoyed. I liked it much better than Heavy Rain for sure. I'll write up my thoughts when it's not 1:30 in the morning.

Also, I'll get flack for this but....I think Navajo should have been cut from the main story and made DLC.

A lot less consequences than Heavy Rain.

I also really don't like those slow mo action that makes it really hard to tell which direction you're suppose to be pressing. Sometimes you're supposed to press towards the dude, sometimes you're supposed to press away, but you don't know what until it's too late because it doesn't show you what's an attack or dodge.

Also, I went through the whole thing not caring about Ryan, but I ended up with him in the end. Kinda weird.

then you should have chosen "I´m new at video games" at the beginning.. that gives you red arrows during slow-mo, so you know what way to push the stick.

There's an Easy mode. Use it.

Except I'm not new. It's not intuitive for any reason.

They need to get rid of the blocks in order to be completely sure what needs to be pressed.

I've been at this vidya game playing thing for twenty plus years and I had plenty of issues with not knowing which way to press. It's kind of a poorly designed system, but it clears up when you flip on easy mode.

"Beyond is a game about death, life and loss"

"She has a bond with this entity, ever since she was a young girl"

The revelation of what Aiden is was exactly what I expected since the game's reveal. I anticipate that most people expected that.

The reaction of everyone in twitch chat at that was great. Overall the whole premise of the game when you sit back is pretty ridiculous, especially the cia stuff and dafoe's character. When the cia announced they were going to war against the infraverse.... there wasn't enough facepalms in the world.

It became bad sci-fi very fast after it became obvious what was happening. It's just not a plan that anyone would ever have agreed to considering the potential consequences. The military guy in charge seemed to want to use it as a military leg up on everyone else, but there was no thought for how completely stupid the very notion was.

What I'm still a bit foggy on is who was researching the infraverse before Nathan came along. They attached Aiden's soul to Jodie somehow, or else we've got to assume that they did since they drugged the mother permanently to keep her out of the picture. There was no reason to do that unless they knew what she was.

All that was said (to my knowledge) was the mother and father was special, so they inferred that the child of the couple must be even more special.

I wouldn't think about it too hard... the whole thing is a mess.

I think the game could be summed up with "It has no plot". It was just random series of nonsensical events filled with unbelievable love interests, unrealistic motives, heavy handed social commentary and story convenient contrivances.

Are we supposed to assume that they purposefully killed Aiden in the womb so that he'd latch on or...

You're right; It's better to just not think about it.

this game is all over the place. I didn't like it. I'd say it was a smart thing to cut out all the ghosty crap in the previews, because it would've definitely keep me from getting this game.

here's my beef with the ghosts. there are too many different types, like aiden who can do all kinds of magic (throw cars, heal wounds completely except eyes, form a force field to dodge bullets, etc.) - there are the people ghosts who like to stalk their loved ones to leave vague messages - the navajo ghosts are in their own category, I still don't get what was going on there and then the monster ghosts, who like to grab jodie's leg a lot? what's with them killing people or possessing them to kill jodie? why can they attack people at all but the other ghosts can't (except for aiden)?

I really disliked the whole infraworld storyline. cage should keep it simple, I feel like he tries too hard to be the Lars Von Trier of video games, but his games always end up in a more of a Roland Emmerich type of quality.

I think he wanted to frame it within sort of a theological perspective but didn't for some reason. Aiden and other squiggly blobs of whatever like him seem to be lost souls (souls that couldn't let go of reality, sort of like the traditional notion of "limbo"), while spirits capable of retaining their human form (like Nathan's dead wife/daughter) are either in the process of going beyond, or they've been brought back from beyond forcefully. Then you've got...large dinosaur looking monster things that don't really line up with anything else in the story, and the Navajo ancestors that stick around and protect their descendants while in human form (seemingly against the notion that those that can't let go can't take human form). All of them have varying levels to which they can interact with reality, and Aiden himself seems to be susceptible to fluctuations in "power" that are really only there to be convenient to the story (not to mention gameplay; He could just choke everyone out and shield Jodie from everything but...whatever).

If you aren't really invested in the relationship between Jodie and Aiden, there isn't a lot here for you.

the relationship between the two is actually one of the better things in this game. although, thinking about it I'm not sure if they could communicate, more specifically if jodie could hear aiden. if so, why didn't he tell her he was her brother? she was struggling with being tied to something, it would've been probably a little easier if she knew they were related.

I was kind of disappointed about the reveal of the Infraworld. I was also kind of disappointed about the revelation of Aiden. I honestly wanted him and all the other monsters to actually be monsters and not just souls. Demons, beasts, all manners of bad supernatural beings. It would have made for a good internal conflict for Aiden as to why an evil entity such as himself would protect a mere mortal girl after he finds out about himself.

I chose the Zoey ending which I find to be canon, satisfying, and frustrating all at the same time.

There are definitely non-human souls, though where they came from is anyone's guess.

The Navajo part really brought the game down. Wish I could forget it.

All those billions of dollars and years spent building condensers when all they really needed were a couple of magical bullshit talismans and an old chanting Navajo woman.

Even with military logic building the third condenser feels kinda stupid when first 2 were 5 minutes away from starting the armageddon.

they really need an option where you play the game in chronological order like in haruhi after you beat the game it would probably make some people understand things better and fix some complaints about the game skipping around to much

stated my second play through on twitch last night and let's say people were disappointed when I had to go to sleep Lol. I stopped right after Navajo and told them tonight shit gets crazy and twisted. but so far everyone on twitch checking the game out loves it and are going to gladly ignore the reviews...... I turned easy mode on, I love my arrows.

My stream last night was different. People were ripping it. :/

OK beat the game, the ending is simply amazing and satisfying. I watched the 4 options they give you in the epilogue and the one I liked the most is "alone", really cool, it feel like they could make a sequel like supernatural or the x-files from that epilogue.

I have two questions, when you see the "futuristic" part of the ending, Jodie said that he died twice, I don't get that. Also in the credits you see that scene but there is two Jodies in the hill, both with different hair.

There is any way to check what ending or variation did you watched?, in HR you can check that in the chapter select menu.

By the way, is my or the Navajo part feel a little weird and disconnected from the rest of the game despite the infraworld stuff.

Edit: OK I finished the Zoey epilogue and the other girl on the hill with Jodie is not another Jodie is the homeless woman daughter?.

The revelation of what Aiden is was exactly what I expected since the game's reveal. I anticipate that most people expected that.

I saw coming it from a mile, even before playing the game, so predictable. I wanted other thing to be honest, maybe Aiden was Jodie's soul that came from the future to save his past self or something more juicy that oh it was his dead brother, lol.

It does seem kind of disconnected. Almost like an interlude. Made me think of this:

What was the point of this scenario?, to have another love interest and let the players know that interaction between the infraworld and our world is nothing new?.

It feels so random, she was walking on the road, surpise, there is a house, suprise, the family has a link with the infraworld, suprise one of the sons is hot. The worst part is that is a long chapter, replaying it is going to be very boring.

Top Bottom
