Pokemon X and Y SPOILER Discussion Thread

Probably a dumb question, and if at all possible don't spoil too much of the plot, but do we know where X and Y sit on the timeline?

We know RSE and RBY are concurrent thanks the the events on the Sevii Islands in FR/LG and GSC and DPPt are concurrent because of the Gyarados special at the beginning of Diamond and Pearl, but after that we're left guessing.

So I just clocked this game. Wow!

Other than the Exp. Share KILLING the need to grind experience I really enjoyed it.

My team as of now is:

Delphox - Level 79
Blastoise - Level 68
Haxorus - Level 68
Pidgeot - Level 66
Lucario - Level 65
Absol - Level 65

With Delphox being the active Pokémon 90-95% of the time you can see the sort of experience spread that the Exp. Share gives.

Does anyone know how to enter the boutique in the Paris-esque city by the way? I figured when I became the Champion I would be allowed in but I guess maybe I have to grind around Coffee shops / Cafés to increase my reputation in the city before they let me enter?

Quick question, since I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere: do you have to capture Xerneas/Yveltal to proceed in the game like with Reshiram/Zekrom in Black and White? Or can you capture them at your leisure? That'll affect whether I try to get a Pokémon with Synchronize during the story or just come back later with one.

It's in the process of the game like in Black and White.

Holy shit, that's a beast time in only 17 hours. When do you get the Exp. share btw?

It is literally given to you as you leave the town with the first gym after getting your badge.

Eh, I hope they're easy to capture as well then. Oh well, I guess I'll try to find a Synchronize 'mon before I get to that point!

What happened for me:

Flamethrower
Burned
Ultra Ball
No catch
Hurt by burn
Ultra Ball
Caught.

The only real comment I have is that the fact that your character looks NOTHING like they start off as makes me really excited... Because unlike in Bethesda games, your character also doesn't look retarded.

Good to know, I'm grinding a bit in the high grass before the first gym to get my Pokémons to level 10. But that's pretty useless then :P

There's a degree of customisation.

You can have four hair types along with 4 or so colours. There's a variety of clothing (but not too much - enough) and you can also change the colour of your eyes with contact lenses.

As of this time I'm not sure if you can remove your hat or not because I cannot find an option to deselect it as I can with my leggings or tights for example.

That's good! But at the same time, I feel like the trend of mandatory legendary captures is cheapening the box legendaries a bit by making the actual stakes so low... Still beats a drawn-out battle though I guess. Not that I have much to complain about, since I haven't even played the game yet!

Dude, you have a Sylveon in your GAF avatar.
That pretty much answers your question on Synchronize. He's gonna have it.
Unless you'd rather have Cute Charm instead.

You are able to Save before the encounter if that makes any difference - or at least before the last trainer of the four you have to beat before fighting the legendary. I've never found legendaries to be particularly difficult to catch - other than one Mewtwo on my friend's Red version back in 1999 that we spent about 45 minutes catching with Ultra Balls.

This game is really about the dough.

I'm rolling in cash. Also funny so many NPC's ask for a tip now, it's like I'm really in America. I thought this region was based on France/Europe? :>

You get way more money off battles too.

... I thought it did have Cute Charm.

Oh man, Mewtwo. Now that's the opposite extreme. I appreciate the new kinds of Poké Balls we have now that help out a bit for the really tough ones.

Shiny Fennekin...

This is great!

Do you think the difficulty curve is built around having EXP Share or did it make the game really easy? I've already decided to turn it off, but I'm worried I might be under-leveled by the end of the game.

Is there a finite source of money in Pokemon games? I always figured that once you run out of Poketrainers to fight you would no longer be able to get money in the game, but I am probably missing something?

Elite 4 and champion can be fought indefinitely. If you have strong enough pokemon you can bulldoze them without needing to heal too much.

There's always the League you can rebattle. But there's often some other method of re-battling available, too. Whether it be a special area like Black Tower or specific trainers, Vs. Seeker etc.

You can rebattle the Elite Four and usually rivals or some special trainers in the post games.

Grind the Elite Four. Amulet Coin gives double gold from trainers too and works on them.

I would say that the game semi-compensates. The water trainer of the Elite Four destroyed my team basically.

Yeah, that was my mistake. Sylveon's hidden ability is Synchronize.
You'd need to capture an Eevee in a horde battle or find one in the Friend Safari with the ability already in order to get a Sylveon with Synchronize.

So your other options are Gardevoir, Alakazam, Espeon and Umbreon.

Never been the case, even early on you could always do the Pokemon League alone again.

The shinies in this gen are amazing. So far all the alt colors look great and there aren't any that look like GF simply dragged the tint slider a few notches and called it a day.

I remember thinking this when I was a kid playing Blue. I started going around hitting stuff with payday, lol. (Like they said, Elite 4 over and over.)

I played the Elite Four tons of times. Bulldozed them all with my Kyogre equipped with Amulet Coin for that fast cash :lol

Oh, I didn't know we knew hidden abilities already!

And thanks for the list! I'll try to pick up one of those with a good nature.

Odd and corny question, but did you feel like you made your ultimate team on your journey? Any surprises? Or are your main slots still open for Pokemon to find in post-game.

Obviously I didn't EV train them so I'll not be using them for my "Ultimate Team". I always do that post-game.

To be fair though it may have just been because I had no Grass Pokémon or any Electric Pokémon that could take advantage of STAB.

I literally stream-rolled the Ghost, Steel and Fire Elite Four trainers with my Blastoise and Delphox.
