Pokemon X and Y SPOILER Discussion Thread

Real talk: Do we abandon this thread for the OT in a couple hours when it launches? I think 0:00 EST is the latest timezone that the games release in. What's the protocol here?

i dont think the people in the OT are going to want to be spoiled on evos and mons and such RIGHT when they get the game, we should have another spoiler thread for those who want to chat about what weve seen in this thread so far.

Why am I not surprised that every single Pokémon on the trademark list except Jynx has been given a Mega Evolution? Game Freak can go fuck themselves. Scizor is already one of the most broken Pokémon in the metagame.

I'm gonna stay here in respect for talk.

To get trades and stuff, I'll go to the OT.

I tried discussing in the OT, but I'm too spoiled and I don't want to spoil stuff out of respect for those on black out and I hate using spoilers.

Those are chainsaws? Looked more like angry clamps!

Serebii found Mega Jynx actually.

He died when he saw it. Serebii confirmed.

It makes sense when the legendary is required to be caught/beaten in order to progress through the story.
It's pretty comparable to any other boss fight in a linear game TBH. All this does is narrow the margin of challenge between what it's like to catch any old Pokemon and a legendary, which at least requisites some longer management of resources/Pokemon, which also serves as preparation for the Elite Four later on.

I understand making them a bit easier, but I also feel like you at least need to present the battle/experience so that it's scaled to the reward you get, or else everything is a pushover and suddenly it loses impact/gravity even within the context of the story.

This thread needs to stay open alongside the official OT. Like everyone has said, nobody goes into the official OT to be spoiled about mega evolutions or the postgame. We're free to talk about that here.

Finally got my copy of Y! Now I just need to find out where to go after the cave bit that leads to a dead end. D:

Can anyone tell me around how much time it takes before you choose your first starter? I am thinking about possibly trying to reset for a while to try my luck at getting a starter shiny.

Gonna watch porn for the next hour and a half until the game is available for download.

EDIT: Well that didn't last very long =/

Oh wow the in-game trades with NPCs can be done from a box now. Game Freak your quality of life tweaks in this game have been great

I get what you're saying, but this isn't exactly post-game stuff here. If catching the cover legendary was done post-E4, then I would totally understand the decision to make it easy to catch. But if it's part of the story, then the challenge should be brought down for capture.

If it's like the past couple games though, then you could always KO it and catch it at a later time.

I feel the exact opposite. You HAVE to catch this during the story, and it's a pivotal moment. So make it pivotal. It doesn't need to be ridiculously hard to catch, but at least put a challenge behind it. Tell the player to stock up on Ultra balls even via an NPC, if they haven't played previous games before or don't understand the need for you to be prepared item-wise. It's a learning experience for the player for the E4 gauntlet and the climax of the game for some. Like I said, I understand it being easier than before, just not this easy necessarily.

Post-E4 Legendaries should be harder. It's post-game content so it should come with even greater challenge (roaming legendary trios are an example of this philosophy), as it's only there to reward people who stick with a game that long and seek out extra challenges beyond merely beating the game.

so you want it easier than legendaries like Mewtwo, but you want it to be a challenge still
so where do you actually want the catch rate to be, in that case

I don't want a damn challenge when catching a legendary I *have* to catch. Make it easy to catch. I don't want to waste my time - just let me throw a few balls, catch it, and move on with the story!

Sweet Mary, mother of God...Mega Houndoom. It has Solar Power? Hmmm. I hope that means it has good use outside of sun teams. That design is too cool to have be pigeonholed into sun teams only.

The other shown megas are very neat! How many more can be left?!

Does my 3ds come with enough space to download this game from the shop? I never checked it and I got this 3ds about a year and a half ago.
