Kotaku: NFS Rivals "indistinguishable" between PS4/PC, XB1 version not present

Kotaku article indistinguishable from PR, critical opinion not present.

In all seriousness, if it was running on a pc then it's not the ps4 version , is it? We all know how accurate those 'running on console settings' claims have been before.

Also, if locked at 30 fps it's no wonder they'd 'd probably look similar, don't let that haswell cpu or high end gpu stretch it's legs...

As a side note, I see this game suffers from the same disease hot pursuit did.
You race for 1.5 mins then watch 2 mins of filling bars, cutscenes ,unlocks and loading screens

That game was 8 hours long but 4 hours of it was (no really, literally over half of it) was bar filling/cutscenes/loading
I can't be the only one worried about a repeat of that in this game.

I'm seeing a lot of this from EA and it's annoying. I'm looking for non up res'd. Examples - ryse, KZ, etc.

You listed the only two launch games that really fit your criteria...maybe ResoGun just for sheer physics.

I'm not sure what etc. is in this case.

At first glance it sounds like a cause for concern on the XB1 version.

They should of added a "coming to a PS4 near you in 2014" disclaimer somewhere

I wanna add that that game had the worst rubber banding, ever.

And vice versa, no?

Sure, this whole debate is entertaining but pointless until we have our first DF analysis. Both sides should relax a bit, but the fact that we seemingly have reversed roles compared to last gen adds additional vitriol I guess. I am watching from a safe distance and will not buy either console before there is no 1st party must have for me.

Good point - there aren't too many but I was just trying to provide examples. IMO Forza looks good but doesn't floor me but I would prob still put it on that next gen list b/c it's also 60fps.

Generally speaking, games that are EXCLUSIVE next gen (and not cross gen) give us the best chance as they have the best opp to look great and explain why I'm buying these systems.

I'm just surprised on how people will look at games that are high res'd and say wow next gen. Don't make it that easy for these guys - these systems aren't cheap and they need to earn it. If you want to go cross gen I TOTALLY understand b/c the market is that much better but let's do better than this. Madden and NBA are an absolute disgrace. I'm on the fence with FIFA but that's prob b/c I'm a huge fan and I'm kidding myself as it appears to be another up res'd effort

I think Drive Club looks more next gen than Forza even though it was running at 30fps. Forza looks like a PC port of a 360 game

I'll need to check driveclub out then. Too bad it was delayed. I agree that forza doesn't look THAT good. I'm a huge 60 fps guy though which is prob why Killzone has really skyrocketed to my list right next to Killer Instinct (although that's b/c I have a soft spot for KI - yet the devs DH look to be doing an amazing job to bring that franchise into 2013) - Killzone could be the ideal launch title on both systems.

They specifically stated in the article that the "PC build was running side by side with the PS4 version".

Good grief, the hyperbole.

Anyone that seriously thinks that there won't be huge differences between PS4 & Xbox One versions of multiplat games (especially later multiplat games throughout the years) are very delusional. I'm not going to sugarcoat jack.

The hardware between PS4 Vs. Xbox One isn't like the hardware between PS3 Vs. 360 where the hardware specifications between the two consoles are very similar; it's a whole, another world.

You will be very disappointed then. The consoles are very close in terms of power. Because one of the component of the PS4 is 40% better won't make night and day. Especially not in this generation where you need A LOT more power for the game to show up a bit better on the screen. This is not the 90s where a little bit more power makes a big difference.

No but he's right. Remember last gen when everybody was doing compare and contrast videos and in the end everything looked pretty much the same? I mean, Halo 4 was godly beautiful as was TLOU. Lot's of software tricks employed with both those games. NFS Rivals will look great on both systems.

No, there wasn't a 40-50% difference between the PS3 and 360 as there is now between the PS4 and the xbone.

I'm basing my judgement off gamersyde videos of both. Not saying Forza looks bad, but DC with its lighting and shadows just looks a lot better imo

You're really grasping at straws here. Lighting and shadows being marginally better or worse in either title won't be a huge factor. Driveclub is delayed, and Forza is ready at Launch. I still think Forza will be the king of detail this generation.

PS3 was touted as being significantly more powerful. I remember that launch very well and the compare and contrast videos that followed.

What was touted is irrelevant to the TFlop calculations that we have available for both generations. My point stands. There wasn't a 40-50% difference between the PS3 and 360 as there is now.

The GPU is more powerful, and the PS4 has better RAM. Although the RAM advantage is partly mitigated by the XB1 ESRAM, depending on the usage.

CPU? XB1 has the higher clock speed apparently. Hard drive? Pretty much the same, XB1 has 8gb of flash memory though, but we're not sure if it's going to be used for games. Although any stress that the OS would have made on the IO would be nullified so that gives more room for games on that aspect.

So yeah, GPU. That's about it.

1.3 vs 1.84 is not as big a difference as you think it's going to be. Maybe, just maybe you'll be able to crunch AI numbers slightly better and it's my understanding that the CPU and GPU of the X1 have recently been increased. So your looking at a difference of .30 or 40 teraflop calcs per second. When you factor in the cloud and the ability to be able to offload intensive operations like AI you free of a lot of computing for graphics. Cloud won't make the games look better, but it will free up the computing to allow games to look better. Either way, NFS is going to look amazing on both consoles.

Man, I loved Hot Pursuit 2010 but this is a good point. Forgot about that.

And while I wouldn't say it was THAT long, a good portion of the game was indeed that way.

Not really.

Back during the PS2 gen, EA games were shown on that console but that didn't mean that the Xbox version of the games looked worse.

Really.

It was just as telling in the case you mentioned, it was just telling a different story.

It looks like a High End PC title(which is exactly were consoles need to be right now), esp with the new trailer/teaser Forza just released. I mean that is beautiful

A high end PC title wouldn't use baked environment lighting and shadowing in this day and age.

1.3 vs 1.84 is not as big a difference as you think it's going to be. .

10% of the GPU is reserved for OS on Xbox One, so it's 1.18 vs 1.84

Haha yeah, I wish. That would mean I have an XB1 at home right now. I won't even get my XB1 at launch since I won it with the pepsi contest in Canada. I'll have to wait until they ship it to me. Yeah I know, first world problems. :P

that pretty amazing. Enjoy the XB1

congrats man

Your understanding is limited friend. It's probably best to not delve into the tech talk unless you understand it well.

Tech Talk? Dude, I'm a Computer Science major with a minor in Sustainability. I live and breath tech talk. NeoGAF technobable is a language unto its self. I was being cautious because I don't know the exact numbers and like any smart person I held off from making assumptions.

You don't know the exact numbers, you held off from making assumptions and you are like any smart person. Care to explain where ".30 or 40 teraflop calcs per second" came from?
