Bird droppings incoming?

Who is this bird guy? It seems everyone's getting hyped about it, so I'd like to know.

I'll be interested to see what resolution Wolfenstein turns out being on the X1/PS4. They confirmed 60 FPS for all platforms a while ago I believe.

Time and again people underestimate the intelligence and preferences of the "average gamer".
Just how many "average gamers" are ponying up $399/$499 for launch day consoles anyhow? Not very many, I'd wager.
Only the informed "hardcore gamers" are going to be there next month and they very much care about what 720p third-party AAA multiplats represent.

"Average gamers" are still going to be playing Call of Duty: Ghosts and GTAV on their Xbox 360s.
They will also flock to the systems that their hardcore friends have embraced when they choose to make that next-gen leap.

Why bring Gies into this? Possibly the 'journalist' with the least credibility in the industry. He'll give a good go at spreading some FUD to cloud and deflect the issue.

what if BF4 and Ghosts are 720p on Xbox One but run MUCH smoother than on PS4..? what if the PS4 versions chug like crazy? which one would you rather PLAY? remember what happened with PS3 versions this gen, almost all had framerate issues compared to Xbox 360... i could see history repeating itself again. MS aren't stupid. besides a lot of people only have 720p tvs anyway so they won't miss 1080p. it's just a luxury, not necessary for good gameplay. and do you honestly REALLY trust a Dualshock to be good with FPS shooters? yeah no thanks

anyway.. whatever the case you can play Titanfall ONLY on Xbox LIVE ;)
I just read the bolded to my father in law. He is 67. His reply? Verbatim:
"Does he know it's 2013?"

Immediately followed by a real life bro-fist.

Please @ thuway don't get banned again... stay cool and convince the mods to share the info with us :-D

PS. If you want you can sent me a PM with the info... I drop the bomb for you j/k

The interesting thing is, those future games that can only hit 720p on PS4, what is their Xbox One resolution going to be?

I dread to think.
Sub-HD obviously. Welcome to next gen.
So long as there are more 1080p games than there are 900 and 720 p games then we can at least check off resolution as a clear improvement over the current generation consoles.
Yip. It would be nice.

But I imagine as the generation goes on and devs try to push the hardware more and more we'll start seeing compromises in frame-rate and resolution.

I think there were probably more 1080p games at the start of this gen and that reduced over time(?) I sort of expect the same for the 8th gen.

Somehow... i don't see that happening...

Well, it all depends on what their vision is whether their output is being visually outclassed by a third party dev at a lower resolution than 1080p. I would not hold it against any of Sony's first parties if we got eye popping visuals in a game 4-5 years down the line and the resolution was sacrificed (720p or 900p or something in between native). I don't think most people will even care by then unlike now where everyone is uber sensitive.

Considering Deep Down is 60 FPS and given what it looks like, I bet that's 720p. DAT LIGHTING /annoying person OMG DAT LIGHTING

Lighting should be the focus on this generation IMO, poly returns are minimal and easier to trick. I used to do 3D models and I could put all the detail in the world into them, millions of polys but if your scene set up was crap... it looked crap. In the hands of a great lighting rig, low poly models can look out of this world.

If we could get real time radiosity lighting (or cheats), with volumetrics... *swoons*

I would be happy with 720p, WITH AA and lighting of that quality... although my standards are current gen. If both can do it, yet one is 1080p, no brainer.

There's a lot of "average" gamers that lineup at midnight yearly for COD releases... I don't see why they wouldn't join a lineup for a new console launch...

iswydt. Major Nelson is great at clouding the discussion.

Maybe I am naive here, but I am sure that guys username was Astroturfing...maybe it's not to be taken seriously? ;)

Surprised folks haven't picked up on that.

Considering most people can't even calibrate their fucking TVs properly, I honestly don't think they do. I get customers pissed off that both XB1 and PS4 use HDMI only and not analog connections. ><

For what it's worth, that's a bit more involved, heh.

My point was less about the average consumer being super discerning of these kinds of things, and more that they will care about things like raw specs. You tell a guy that you can choose from two different cars at the same price, but one goes faster/gets better mileage/whatever than the other, common sense just says "get the better deal." Same thing here - it's not about sitting the buyer down and showing him okay, this is the 720p video here, and this is the 1080p video, now tell me if you can tell a difference... Okay, now I want you to move a little further back, watch them again, and tell me if you still see a difference... No, nothing like that, but it's a simple statement of "X looks better than Y," or rather "X game looks better on Y console than Z." There's no fiddling around with power differences or nonsense there, it's just a raw number that plenty of consumers will easily understand. It all goes back to the whole perception issue that's been brought up a number of times in other threads.

And it's worth repeating,

Time and again people underestimate the intelligence and preferences of the "average gamer".
