It's nerd love. Simmons has a mad crush on Fitz, but Fitz has feelings for Skye, who happens to ache for Ward's D. At the same time Fitz may have become aware of Simmon's affections, but he's deeply confused and so far acting out of friendship and loyalty.

It's oddly endearing, really.
 
This whole time I've thought Fitz and Simmons were twins with the surname of Fitzsimmons and the last names were split for cuteness.

That and the Iron Man drop, Avengers reference, Chitauri.

Not just this episode. I watched the whole episode, all of them and find them to be almost cringe worthy at times. I really do hope the show takes off.

I'm aware of all these things. However, Jed and Mo have worked with Joss previous projects (Dr Horrible, Dollhouse). And Jed and Mo both wrote and produced on Spartacus. While Joss isn't there in a Showrunner capacity... I'd have to think that with Joss basically helming the direction of the MCU overall.. that there's some phone calls and discussion between himself, Jed and Mo. Also Minear did a fair bit of lifting on stuff like Firefly and Dollhouse if I recall correctly. I only mention this in the sense that a lot of Joss' shows aren't purely Joss. He knows how to pick talented people. So other than Joss not being there for the day to day, it's really not that dissimilar to his other projects.
 
I did like the inclusion of the Chitauri helmet.
Making the actual case-of-the-week be the connection to the movies, with the team having to do clean up work after the big events, that's more interesting to me. Much better than just having random one-liners bringing up the Avengers, the hammer or Captain America.

Also looking forward to the Thor 2 cleanup episode two weeks from now. There's a lot of material they can use from what happened in that movie so it better be good.

Maybe it's just me, but I couldn't keep from thinking the alien "virus" in the chitauri helmet was actually biomechanical technology trying to bond the helmet to its operator. Because the chitauri have mass shifting tech to allow for levitation.

But it's too much for human nervous systems so it burns the brain out.

Ward will be dead by the end of the season imo. Fitz being gay wouldn't make sense in context, he seems to have a unrequited/"nice guy" thing going on with Simmons.

Well, looking at this last ep.; she is poised to be the perfect anti-Coulson. Career first, protocol always, human interest zero.

Every personality of SHIELD is based, somehwat, on breaking the rules, even Maria Hill stands by Fury when push comes to shove. Not Victoria Hand, tho, she would have nuked NY, she would have dumped Simmons on the water, she would have really arrested Skye.

If they write her like I hope they do, she can be a great "villain" because she's actually the one who would never bend the rules. Rules first, ethics way later. Show kind of needs someone like this I think.

I enjoyed the episode -- I came in expecting a terrible episode after seeing the previews, so I'm glad to walk away content with it. I'd still like to know more about the villainous group of scientists that are playing in the shadows.
 
I liked the episode. Fitz and Simmons worked well in this episode plus it didn't have the bad guy of the week type of deal. Sure it was kind of procedural but it didn't feel like it.

The CG when Simmons jumped out of the plan was terrible though.
 
I think it was the best episode yet. Fitzsimmons were really playing off each other, their chemistry finally showed, and we finally get some insight in what happened to Coulson. The inclusion of the the Chitauri-invasion-aftermath was a good idea, connects the show better to the Avengers-movies than name-dropping Cap and Iron Man.
I'm really curious to next week, let's see if they can keep this up.
 
The show is still not good. But i liked the first. Gave me x-files vibe.
Wish the show will go this route and leave other things behind
 
After the second episode I didn't thought the show would find itself.. but the last few episodes really worked for me. The team is growing into themselves and the cases are more interesting. So far it could become the show that Supernatural was for me for a few seasons - Monster of the Week/ Case of the week corny fun with good characters and humor. I don't need it to be the next Deadwood, Firefly or Battlestar. I'm just in for the fun.

The only thing missing right now is some bigger connections to the movies or the comics. Give me some HYDRA or smaller heroes or villains.
 
With the Netflix announcement, I can see Marvel moving Agents of SHIELD to Netflix if the ratings continue to tank.
 
I've waffled between Coulson being saved by Doctor Strange and going to K'un L'un. In light of recent events, I'm guessing it's going to be the latter.
 
No it is meant to be corny and tongue in cheek. I mean, come on, Avengers had ton of corny moments.

Following the same vein as Avengers. And the MCU as a whole. Serious with corny thrown in.

Only difference is avengers was corny with likable characters. The only likable character in this show is coulison...and that's saying ALOT.
 
I'm kind of disappointed with this show. I mean it has MARVEL and SHIELD in its name and yet all we have is subpar men-in-black action. Come on, where are the superheroes, the tights, the flying gods? Unstable freaks and mysterious secret organisation is all we got.
 
Haven't checked back yet, but I don't remember seeing anyone mentioning the Typhoid Mary mention in the latest episode which already seemed like an indication of things to come and now totally is with Daredevil coming to Netflix.


Thought that was pretty cool.
 
I still need to catch up on the last few episodes.. But is this show still doing the adventure of the week format? I won't judge this series until they start to focus on the main story arc.
 
I actually really felt for the two scientists in this episode. I'm sure it was the intention all along but I really want them to end up together.

I feel that the characters are starting to be fleshed out a lot more now, and Coulson's antagonism towards some of the SHIELD higher ups makes it seem like the series could have a fair bit of meat to it later on in the season.
 
In light of this latest netflix news, is there any chance these new shows could tie into AOS with character appearances and that sort of thing?

Since Marvel, Disney, and ABC are all one big company now, I don't see why they wouldn't use AOS to attract people to the new shows. Netflix could be counted as a competing network in a way, but the fact that Marvel and ABC are one big company should negate that issue.

I don't see any reason why Netflix would mind sharing the characters with ABC since it would probably help increase subscriptions.

They might also use the Netflix shows to attract people to AOS, and use all of the shows together to get people into theaters.

Eh, SHIELD's still leaking viewers. Who knows where it will be by the spring, when everything tends to decline. There's no way it isn't a huge disappointment to ABC. 7 million viewers and a 2.5 by the sixth episode is pretty sad for a show that launched with so much hype.

I kinda hope not. Since I hope the Netflix shows will be much more adult themed than this show, which is pretty safe and family focused like the movies. If they crossover that minimizes that chance a bit I feel.
 
I wish I could time travel into a future where this show already has 3 seasons or so in the can, so I can marathon through the weak early episodes and get to the time when show show really finds its footing and gets good (by knowing what works and what needs work, dropping weak characters and adding stronger ones, getting a bigger budget, more serialised storytelling, etc).

I'd expect that to happen by season 2, but hopefully the second half of season 1 will show it.
