Great visually. Art direction is really good. There are some good, funny moments.
(Captain Loki)
Loki is the only one with good lines and good acting. Very forgettable movie.

He has some bad lines: 'trust my rage' was just corny.

Just saw it, it was good, not great.

It didn't blend as seamlessly as the first (I could be exaggerating) story-wise, it was bland and generic. I have some knowledge of the comic-backstory of the antagonist, and was disappointed by movie's portrayal of him/her/it. The reasoning behind his actions were extremely generic and slight spoiler:
the way he went out was bogus...and lol, the queen was a badass
made for a predictable bad guy.

+Great special effects as usual
+The humor is GREAT, on par if not better than Iron Man movie humor from ALL characters
+Hammer hanger (lol)
+Solid performance/acting by Chris/Thor and Tom/Loki

-Bland story
-Blander-ish villian SPOILER:
why did he want to make the universe dark again? ..just... just because?
-Every other character besides Thor and Loki seemed misplaced or shoehorned for humor's sake (moreso misplaced)

Oh yeah, stay after the credits for a cutscene.
Fanboy spoilers:
the infinity gauntlet... fuck yes. I'm so stoked for Avenger's 3!!! Thanos gonna be thanos'ing.

Saw it tonight and enjoyed it for the most part.

I know it's a shit complaint, but
I know these movies have to be on their own, I get it. But it annoys me to no end when the Earth (and universe for that matter) is faced with catastrophe? The rest of the Avengers are taking a nap. I could get over this notion when they were fighting in Asguard or elsewhere given that the Avengers would have a hard time getting there. But London? Come on.

I know I was definitely hoping when Jane & Thor were about to be crushed by the ship that Iron Man/Hulk would fly in and move them out of the way. Drop a quip about how he had errands to run first or something, and be done.

But hey, all in all? I don't regret going, I enjoyed myself nonetheless. Humor was spot on.

Loved it. Definitely in my top 3 Marvel movies and it's great to see them knocking these Phase 2 movies out of the park. That last battle, holy shit. So awesome.
Loved them falling through portals uncontrolled. Made for some awesome epic brawl moments as well as surprisingly funny moments for a final battle scene. Mjolnir flying up in to space was SO cool and it doing 180s trying to find Thor was so good. I was kind of nerding out over that.
Dem hammer drops. Kat Dennings was great
Mew Mew!
. The Dark Elf ships were really cool. Was definitely getting Star Wars vibes from the
Asgard invasion scene
. Loved that we got a decent amount of Warriors Three even if I did want more.

Only problems with the movie I had were:

  • Some of the Earth stuff in the first half was kind of whatever though I was never bored. Some if it seemed redundant like
them showing Selvig's TV arrest twice when they only needed it once
    .
  • Was hoping for a little more of the Lady Sif romance angle. I'm wondering if there was more to that that got cut because it only seems like the smallest of setup here.

That's about it. Other than that I really enjoyed it. Can't wait for Cap 2!

You're forgetting the time frame on this stuff. Keep in mind the final battle
which is really the only part where Earth would be aware of what's going on, happens in London in probably a half hour span of time. That's not enough time for Iron Man or Hulk or Captain America (who are all most likely in the US when this goes down) to respond. If this had happened in NY, you'd have more of a complaint.
That's ASSUMING they aren't pre-occupied at the same time with their own thing.

Don't all phase 2 movies take place at the same time? Which would explain why the avenger's don't come to each other's aid.

Liked it, but didn't think it was that good. One thing that pissed me off was
There was too much joking around going on during the final battle, I mean the Universe is at stake and you're sitting there cracking jokes left and right. I don't mind stuff like that, but not when it's happening during something that is super serious.

But the big bad
getting his face smeared sliding down a glass window
is justification alone.

Cap is in DC and Tony is in LA. The whole battle is shorter than the trip across the ocean would be.

I went in with lowered expectations and wound up loving it. Better than the first one and another great Marvel film!

Loved the mid credits scene too!

Next week's episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is gonna cover the aftermath of Thor 2. I hope they explain why S.H.I.E.L.D. didn't get involved.

you know it's going to be something half assed. Like a throwaway about that monster still running around london they had to get. But yeah, the whole final battle taking place in london in the space of about a half hour is explanation enough.

S.H.I.E.L.D. can't be everywhere.

True, but then you also have Kat Dennings say she couldn't reach S.H.I.E.L.D. when she called them, no? Or am I remembering things wrong?

yeah, but again that line was throwaway. "I tried to call SHIELD and they didn't pick up." OK.

There was also a line early on about how the local authorities would alert the federal authorities, who would alert SHIELD which is something Jane didn't want to happen as they would lose control of the site.

So indications are that shield would EVENTUALLY show up, but aren't exactly the first number people call when things start to go bad. Either way I'm not that interested in the show and will probably skip it.

I'm much more interested in the reveal that
we know what two of the infinity gems/stones are, and the upcoming films will DEFINITELY have the others showing up. I'm curious if they're going to go the Time/Space/Power/Soul/Reality/Mind route, or just make them 6 obscenely powerful items that do whatever

edit: also, having Asgard with a vault of WTFOMG powerful items and odin pulling out exactly zero of them when asgard gets invaded is LOLworthy.

The battle takes maybe 30 minutes, I can't blame them, I didn't mind it. It's a Thor movie, I don't want everyone to get shoehorned in every movie, but (technically) it does raise the question why no one there would pick up when whatever-her-name calls, although I guess she's not important enough.

yeah, having SHIELD "not taking her seriously" or having her get stuck in hold music hell or something would be more plausible. but it's not really meant to be overthought, i don't think.

"tried to reach SHIELD, couldn't, let's move on."

Surprised there aren't more mentions of Thor getting stuck on the subway. it got a chuckle out of me.

Not even 30 minutes:
They say at the start of the battle that the convergence will be at max intensity or whatever in seven minutes so they just have to distract him for eight minutes.

I liked it it was fun,
cameo
was funny and overall it was pretty cool in that regard. Either way, bring on Captain America TWS :D

Why are people talking about the
infinity mitten?

I watched both credit scenes. What did I miss?

infinity mitten?

I watched both credit scenes. What did I miss?

In the first post credits scene,
Sif and Volstagg deliver the Aether to The Collector in a box for safekeeping, outright stating that it's one of the infinity stones/items, and that the tesseract from Avengers is another one. Collector announces his intent to gain the remaining five for unknown reasons at the end of the scene.

no idea how you could have watched the scene and missed it. the scene consists of literally no other dialogue.

Why the hell would they even give it to that guy?

because
having the infinity stones/gems all in one location is an EXTREMELY BAD IDEA. Collector is an elder of the universe in mainstream continuity (though not exactly a "good person") and maintains a collection of the rarest species and items in the universe. It WOULD be safe with him, assuming he wasn't corrupt...which he is.

It also creates a very simple link between GOTG and THOR, which is probably closer to what Marvel wants.

Saw it. Liked it. Much better action than the first. Still has a lot of humor, which I liked a lot about Thor 1.

MCU Rankings:

Avengers > Iron Man > Captain America = Thor 2 > Thor = Iron Man 3 > Incredible Hulk > Iron Man 2

I'd slip Spiderman 2 in there = to the first Iron Man.

Everything else.... spot on.

Saw this yesterday with the kids and really enjoyed it. A couple of things bothered me though.

1. What the fuck were those ships made out of that could plow through stone columns like that? But spoilers?
The gatekeeper could crash one with a couple of daggers?
Seemed kinda silly.

2. Thor puts the
the hammer on a coat rack and it holds it up? The Hulk couldn't even lift that thing

3.
Did Loki kill Odin?

I think there was one other big wtf part but I can't remember it. Still not enough to detract from an otherwise good movie.

Also I didn't know the 5 minute Winter Soldier preview was only in front of the 3D version. Has it leaked out online yet?

Is the 3D worth it? I'm planning on going today and the Marvel films usually aren't known for their 3D efforts since all of them are post-converted.

I think I was nerding out over the credit ending after I realized that the aether was an
infinity gem
that I didn't connect the dialog to how the tesseract was one too!

By the hammer of Thor, I love these marvel movies. It brings the comic books out of me.

It's not so much that the hammer weighs a trillion pounds or anything, it's just that a living being who is not worthy won't be able to budge it. So if Thor put it on a table, it wouldn't crash through the table and through the floor, it would just not be movable.

yep. It has "permission"

Thought this was pretty enjoyable overall. My favorite part was actually
Queen Frigga protecting Jane from Malekith. I haven't seen the first movie so the queen being able to go toe-to-toe with the main bad guy was a total surprise to me, even after seeing her grab the sword off the guard. Shame she didn't make it, but at least she went out like a badass.

Let's be fair though, it seems a little short-sighted to give
part of a set to a guy obsessed with collecting things.

oh wow, easily one of my favorite marvel films, and so much better than the first

wasnt expecting to like it this much

I really enjoyed this. The Thor movies are just so fun. The dynamic between the characters is so entertaining. The whole Game of Thrones meets Star Trek aesthetic is hilarious. I loved every second of it. And this movie was Loki at his best.

Does anyone else find it odd when movies like this have lines like "See you in hell!"?

Loki says it at one point in the film and I immediately think, here is an Asgard God basically, where did he learn that phrase? I think it's pretty obvious they wouldn't be Christians.

Well he could have meant "Hel" which exists in the Marvel U.

Ah, wasn't aware. That would make sense then.

Hel is an integral part of the Norse Mythology: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hel_(location)

-Blander-ish villian SPOILER:
why did he want to make the universe dark again? ..just... just because?

Well they're Dark Elves, they dislike life and light, they see our universe as something that didn't meant to exist.

Yup. Mama Thor is BADASS in the first she takes down a Jötunn with ease.

Seemed kinda silly.

That was just a scout flyer, their smallest ship. The damage the drag caused was probably tiny, it was jamming the source that made it go down
.

I'd assume it's some sort of malleable material with a high impact strength.
It also gave us one of the best gags in the movie "
You missed a column
"

(Spoilery post) Liked it, but I will say that
Thor's plan was incredibly idiotic...

Thor: Hey Odin, a ton of Asgardians are probably going to die if they attack us again, even with the full force of our Asgardian army, so here's my plan:

Thor: What if, just hear me out, what if we went to them, and attacked them?

Odin: Oh, good! So you have the element of surprise!

Thor: Err, well, not really. I plan on bringing Foster with me. You know, the girl that has the all-powerful Ether inside of her. The thing that the dark elves want. I think he can sense her presence. They'll know we're coming a mile away.

Odin: Then that's a terrible plan!

Thor: But wait, wait, I'm going to wait for him to pull the Ether out of her, and then I'm going to destroy it!

Odin: With what?

Thor: My hammer of course!

Odin: You're going to destroy an all-powerful universe-busting fluidlike material with... a lightning hammer? This is a terrible idea and won't work. I say we just let them come to us and retaliate with the full force of our army. I mean, there's only like 50 of them left. It'll be a massacre.

Thor: Yeah... I figured you'd say that. That's why I'm breaking my brother out of jail and bringing Foster with me. My awesome teammates are going to cover my exit so they won't even be fighting with us. It'll just be me, my douche of a brother who I'm positive will betray me, and a scientist with no combat experience whatsoever.

Sounds like a fantastic idea, right?

I liked the film, but the start was a bit jarring as well as Natalie Portman's character. Fun flick.

Wasn't too keen on the villain, they could have fleshed out his backstory and character much more, although it was marginally better than other superhero villains in ensemble/minor movies. Loki owned this film.
