Polygon COD: Ghosts Review update: (XBONE better version)

I am blaming the age of the COD engine on framerate drops. When some one with a Titan graphics card is getting major frame drops when aiming.....that is the game not the hardware.

I honestly couldn't give a shit about the score. In your opinion, Ghosts runs better on Xbox One? Fine, give it a slightly higher score. However, you're setting a standard for all of your other multiplatform reviews. I really hope they put up their review of the PS4/Xbox One versions of Battlefield 4 soon because, going by the standard set by the Ghosts review, the PS4 version should have a higher score.

Most unoptimised game ever?

Well at least we know X1 version would run at an average of 26fps if it were 1080p

And they have not even compared the dedicated servers.
If anything the dedicated servers will be worse on ps4 since it's using the same servers that the 360 and ps3 are using. Which means you only get dedicated servers depending on where you live. And even then, I think there is still something off with them. The xb1 version seems to be the only one that will allow everyone to play on dedicated servers no matter where they live.

So, why wouldn't Activision go 900p on the PS4 for 60 FPS? 1080p is cool and all, but not with framerate drops.

Nope. The dude is unethical.

His latest:

This is the same guy that a couple of weeks ago tweeted about sharing Sony NDA information to Penello. He then deleted the tweets moments later.

I won't bother listing other things, since it is not worth my time. I just was shocked at the public offering of competitor exchange of NDA information. That should of been followed up and put to task, considering this person "reviews" for the said competitor.

Nothing he says has merit. Absolutely nothing.

What?

Did anyone get a picture of the tweet?

My post suffered from last post-in-the-page-curse. For those that might be interested, quoting again:

One console will be released for 499€ and will include Kinect. You will be able to play a great game like Forza 5 day one while another will release for 399€ and you will be able to play the amazing Killzone Shadow Fall.

Both will have COD Ghosts and both versions will be slightly better than the current PS3 & 360 versions. I really doubt that one consumer can choose to either spend more 100€ or save more 100€ simply because he read one opinion formed by a unique person in one review website and saw that one version is 0.5 better and then make his choice based on this single detail in one website.

My opinion?
Let them have the fun, the free clicks, the fame and the edgy attitude by having a different 0.5 value in a scale from 0 to 10. Get the console you want the most based on the exclusive games and features, not because of such silly difference in a game review. Trust good members on GAF, that can be mature about it, that paid for their game and win nothing by saying the truth. Not everyone is like that, I know, but with enough time in here you will see that you can trust some of the good GAFfers, just pay attention.

Be well informed, do not be influential because you are the consumer in here and you have the power of choice, do yours based on what you like and understand that whatever score they game to a game in a review, it's their job to release a unique opinion and their income will come from how many visit their site, sponsors, ads on their page generating revenue and many, many other things. Be mature and act as an aware consumer that knows how the gaming industry have been working lately.

Keep your integrity when posting in here so we can have a better and stronger Community filled with people who love these games and these consoles and are also consumers of these same products, pay for all the products and in the end, come here to do LTTP threads, impressions, post gifs, comparison shots that are not compressed and many more things. Get the knowledge, be alert, keep and share your honest opinion, choose what makes you happy every time, maintain your integrity and have fun.

so.....every single outlet says the PS4 version is superior...i even read the word but Gies cant see it?

ok bro...whatever you say lol

In the IGN comparison video, it says both games are 60fps with minor dips in set piece moments and the PS4 is noticably sharper, but the Xbone version doesn't look bad either.

If the Xbone version performs better I'd give it a higher score as well, I don't have a problem with that.

The text however is quite terrible.

To add to the strange Polygon scoring, AC4 on PS4 scored the same as on PS3/360 even though the framerate AND visuals on the PS4 was supposedly better lol

They Xbone score has been knocked down to 6.5 again.

No it hasn't.

Crazy that this news seemed to have crashed Gaf hard. Even though I don't play CoD it's nice that Infinity Ward prioritized frame rate on the XBO version. Frame rate is king!

So that IGN video says that framerates are the same and that PS4 is 1080p?

IGN said they also ran into framerate issues on PS4 but not XBO.

From their review

IGN said:
This is possible, in part, because of cross-generation, cross-platform feature parity. Character customization, maps, dynamic events, weapons, gametypes, and constant 60fps multiplayer framerates are ubiquitous across current- and next-gen platforms. The biggest variations between platforms falls upon visuals and player counts. On the current-gen versions Ghosts looks nearly identical, though I did encounter occasional framerate issues during the single-player campaign on PS3 and PS4, whereas my time with the Xbox One version was stable throughout.

Those framerate drops would have to be massive and often for it to justify a .5 drop in an already substandard game lol.

And from what I am reading from around the webs, most people are not experiencing drops or they are so minor you can barely notice, or it does not get in the way of anything.

But, the visual difference seems like it is quiet noticeable, so polygon is straight BSing in that area.

Thank god I am staying away from this crap and getting Killzone anyway, phew.

Pretty crazy that the system that is much easier to develop for and has more raw power for the Dev...has a worse version of the game? Wut. Put aside the fan boy crap, and just focus on the technical aspect of this. How does this even happen?

EDIT: I'm not saying the above is true. Obviously I'm waiting to hear from more reviewers. But given the situation presented above, how does that even happen.

So the reviewer can't tell difference between resolution, but has a keen eye for framerate drops on PS4?

Give me a break, and I've also watched tons of footage of the PS4 version of Ghosts and haven't noticed detrimental frame drops. I'll be the judge of that though, on the 15th.

Are you hallucinating? This is not true in the slightest.

I really don't get the logic of the increase score.

If they want to use frame rate dips in a couple of places as a reason to mark a version then they're welcome to do that - but if they're going to use that logic then their other scores are inaccurate because the PS3 has worse frame rate than the Xbox 360, and has a worse resolution to boot.

It should therefore stand to reason that given they're essentially the same game across all platforms that if Xbox One is rated higher than the PS4, then the 360 should be rated higher than the PS3 but they're rated equal.

Pretty crazy that the system that is much easier to develop for and has more raw power for the Dev...has a worse version of the game? Wut. Put aside the fan boy crap, and just focus on the technical aspect of this. How does this even happen?

That 'worse version' is producing literally twice the image...

One thing I'd like to ask is why are sites making such a big deal out of XB1 displaying games at 1080P when they rendered at 720P? The Wii U displays all games, including Wii games at 1080P but not a single review site makes that distinction, have Microsoft mandated that sites mention the fact?

So, why wouldn't Activision go 900p on the PS4 for 60 FPS? 1080p is cool and all, but not with framerate drops.

No previous COD game stuck that closely to 60 fps when things got hectic. The notion that they've ever been locked 60 fps is false. I'm very interested to see the DF hard data on just how much each version drops and how that compares to the last gen versions.

If it's truly locked at 60 fps on Xbox One, that'd be a first for the series on consoles.

It won't be.

pretty big for XB1 in that people can at least make an argument now in its favor even if it would be subjective. This is one of the biggest releases of the year after all so things like frame rate and resolution have lots of importance.
