Rather amusing that a lot of the posts in this thread seem to allude to polygon flat out lying about the framerate. Also the accusations that they were paid off by Microsoft to lie about it no less. If the Xbox one has the best frame rate it's clearly the one to buy if you're given the option.

If he can't tell 720p from 1080p with a gun to his head, he should save himself some money and downgrade his TV. No need for an HDTV if he can't tell the difference.

Take a look at PNGs. There's almost no difference in resolution between XB1 and PS4 from what I can tell. They actually both kind of look like they're 900p.

I noticed that in watching comparison videos between versions, there seemed to be no resolution difference when switching between versions. Some weird stuff going on.

I'd be very careful calling the PS4 versions framedrops a big problem until we know how bad it is. Certainly not if you were planning on defending Dead Rising 3 in that area.

Oops, yea my mistake on the resolution. Either way, 1080p to 720p is a much bigger drop than 900p to 720p, that was my point.

not sure what the uproar is for. Games are about playing them. if one plays better than the other that should be the issue. The issue should not be if one's pixels look a little better than the other pixels look.

I have been tainted beyond belief by all this console warz bullshit, takes me 200 fucking minutes to purchase a game because I have fallen victim to fucking graphics comparison and miniature detail picking. i used to be a virgin before I came here.

I think you are missing the point.
I do not think anything gives a shit about the frame rate.
It is the fact that they can not tell the difference between the two versions that people are calling them on their bullshit
 
So, Ghosts didn't fare well as a game.... 7.0 is the lowest I've seen for a CoD game.

But, back to the thread - I guess it's going to be framerate or resolution. Those more concerned about framerate go the XB1 while those more concerned with resolution will go PS4. Looks like each has their pros and cons.

But, I would imagine an FPS game, especially in MP, framerate will be of much more concern.

Well, PS4 is not 100 percent more powerful than an X1. So, for a game with performance issues, it's expected.

PS4 is rendering more than twice the number of pixels natively at the end of the day.
 
Cool so I hope Polygon is prepared to review all PS4 multiplatform games that perform better with a higher score in the future. Maybe he forgot to do that with Battlefield 4, but I trust Polygon to not forget with future titles.

have other media reported on frame drops on the ps4 version? I seem to recall something from the review thread, but I'm not sure.

Totally question them for sure, but I do think it is completely ridiculous to claim "oh, polygon" due to this. I haven't seen them showing any legitimate bias for Xbox. .5 for a multiplatform game is not this. I think it's worth looking at them with a critical eye knowing about the funding but to act like they don't matter or have no credit is incredibly absurd.

yeah. I'm getting a ps4 and passing on the xbone for the foreseeable future but I feel the same. if what they're saying about the frame rate is legit, I'd take 720p and a stable 60fps over 1080 and unstable frame rate. I'm skipping COD this year though. sounds like an unoptimized mess.
 
If someone hasn't already, a gif of Polygon telling gamers to use their imagination to reconcile resolution differences should be made.

BF4 is 720p on Xbone and 900p on PS4...

But I agree about waiting on DF analysis before going off the rails.
 
Easy solution: Issue a patch.

Render to a 900p framebuffer if the user has the dash set at 1080p and render to a 720p framebuffer if the user has the dash set at 720p.

Problem solved and PS4 version will surely be found superior.

To just say it is 800p is misleading, while technically correct. It is what would be called on a Blu-ray movie 1080p 2.40:1 aspect ratio. Yes, it has 800 horizontal lines, but what you're calling 800p has more pixels than the 900p of Ryse.

So yeah, it's incredibly misleading to call it 800p.

It is natively 1080p. They simply render black bars along the to and bottom. There is no upscaling occurring.

Battlefield 4, however, at 1600x900 IS upscaled as failing to do so would result in black borders around the entire image.
