Do you think they need more regular characters? It's essentially just the 6 people on a plane and it's going to be hard to build a world without a bunch of recurring secondary characters surrounding them. I suppose it's early days though, there's always the chance more people come into the show, but the fact they're moving from place to place would suggest that they're not going to have regular interactions with the same characters often.

Look at Criminal Minds which is a team of 6 people travelling around the USA every week to solve crimes. They managed to build up a couple of important secundary characters. It should be possible.

Ah, never seen that but I'll take your word for it!

Within a 6 people team the characters are so interchangeable that It's actually just 3.5 people team

Coulson
May/Ward
Fitz/Simmons/Skye -nerd
Skye -protagonist

Hahah. Was having this conversation with my guild last night.

The X-Files had two characters. TWO.

I reckon you delete Ward and one or two of the nerds and it'd already be a better show.

They've had golden opportunities to
kill off Simmons and lock Skye away for a long time
in recent episodes and completely ignored them.

New episode today:
Season 1: episode 7 "The Hub"

Dangerous secrets are being kept from Coulson’s team and he works the system to save Ward and Fitz when they are sent on a Level 8 classified mission that may end in tragedy.

spot on

I don't agree with with the Forbes article in the least. We didn't have to have this at all. Marvel/Disney could have made a great series expanding the MCU and introducing tons of new characters. Instead they forgot everything that made the movies great. A real attempt to bring the pages of the comics onto the big screen. AoS is a cheap and safe leech on the popularity of the movies.

LOL - that comic is spot on.

Was JUST having the conversation with the roommate - can't tell if the last few episodes have been better because the show is genuinely improving, or because we're just getting used to the ways in which this show is terrible. Because we still have the same problems with it, at the end of the day.

Submit yourself to the same type of pain over and over again, and eventually you stop feeling it as strongly.

edit: okay so this, so far, seems like the kind of thing I signed up for when I started watching a S.H.I.E.L.D. series.

"he's acting like a robot version of himself right now"

I can appreciate that level of trolling

Fitz and Simmons eventually turning into "Black Hat"/"White Hat" ethically (in either combination) would actually be a way to justify their dual existences.

Is The Hub the same place SHIELD had Captain America at the end of The First Avenger?

Edit: Maybe not. Having a connected hangar bay for giant cargo planes and bigger things probably isn't easy to hide in Manhattan.

I'm digging the way this is going. Though the whole "trust the system because you guys haven't been up til now" is heavy handed. I feel like the next Level 8 SHIELD Agent is going to ask Coulson about his TPS reports.

Other than that though this is great.

I thought shield agents mostly dealt with super powered peeps. It's been pretty scarse so far. I can bet you that's why most casuals dropped the show.

Actually they don't unless they threaten national security. The Shocker robbing a bank? Let the local suits handle it. Latvaria funneling tech to supervillaisn? Yeah that is a shield job.

Next week Corporate synergy.

This is the first episode I consider close to good that the show has had. Is it just me or was this episode's budget way higher than the others? New sets, better effects (?), tons of extras, and using another actor from the movies (Sitwell). I worry though that they won't be able to keep it up in episodes away from "The Hub".
