I'm buying a u in December - how do wii vc games work on the u then? Forgive my ignorance.

During initial setup, you have to use a TV to sync the Gamepad. After that though, a TV isn't needed unless the game demands it.

You boot into the Wii mode just like if you were playing a Wii game from the disk and play it. I'm assuming since you're booting into Wii mode you can't use off screen play but I haven't tried it.
Since the last update you can use the GamePad as a screen in Wii mode but not as a controller. For controller inputs you can only use controllers that worked on the original Wii, so no Wii U GamePad or Wii U Pro Controller.

SNES games are $1.50 to upgrade and NES games are $1.00
My wish list of Wii U games keeps growing. I'm currently playing through Lego City, and now I'm reading about Lego Marvel. I'm new to the Lego Games, so I actually picked up a used copy of the Wii Lego Star Wars Complete Saga. Same thing happened with Rayman. I decided to get Legends and went back and bought Origins.
I am not a fan of the modern MSRPs though. $50-60 is too much for me. Even the first-party games I buy used or on sale for $45 or less. Not that I can't afford it, but when most games are bought at $20 or less, it's hard to pay triple that. I'm new to "new" games, as I have been at least one generation behind for the past 10 years.

Hey guys, i'm going to be picking up some games during the holidays. Most likely Deus Ex and Mass Effect 3 because i can get them cheap on Amazon.co.uk, but i was wondering, how were the WiiU ports (and games themselves) of Splinter Cell, Assassin's Creed IV and CoD Ghosts. I don't see them on the "recommended" list, so is that telling? lol
What did the reviews say?
I still need to get WW, W101 and obviously 3DW. EDIT: fuck, and i forgot Lego City. But first i need to finish Pikmin 3 and Earthbound.

Haven't played the other 2 yet but Splinter cell is pretty good.
Assassin's Creed 4 was pretty good. I didn't experience any issues with the frame rate while sailing or running around the cities. Ghosts on the other hand seems fine as you play. It's only when looked in detail does one notice the problems. However due to the nature of the game you won't notice any of these issues with the Wii U versions I feel. I didn't when I played through it. Will you enjoy them or end up disappointed by them is more of a concern I feel going into both games. Splinter Cell was said to be run very but the frame rate dropped during cut scenes, not gameplay. Not sure if that was fixed. There were also issues with the multiplayer. Not sure if that was fixed or if there are enough people even playing now for it to matter.

That's because they are released in November, I'll add them to the recommendations list in December when I delete them from the upper list.
Have you tried Toki Tori, Toki Tori 2+, Bit.Trip Runner, or The Cave? All great eShop games if you're looking for something a bit off the beaten path.
One thing I've noticed when playing NSMBU with friends is that levels in the later world are much harder playing with somebody else than they would be alone. So many deaths due to mid-air collisions. I also read about secret exits in the game that I had no idea existed. This game is awesome.

I actually loved Lost World and Adventure Time looks rad but Mario 3D World will be GOTG. Go with that.
Sonic Lost World has been getting mixed reception(our very own Sega1991 made a great video review)
I think 3D World looks incredible. Can't wait.

Video game prices in the US have been terrible all along, then....
Well, that explains why people remember the SNES as being "everywhere" and in the end it sold only 40mi units in the whole world.
But today at least we have sales, used games and Steam
(i mean, YOU have this things. I only have WiiU and 3DS, so im stuck with wonderful eShop sales - AKA $1 off on legend of Zelda - and i dont live in US either, so there´s no used games market over here)

It seems good to me and the additions are nice if a bit throwaway, I think if you're a hardcore player I heard the slight drops in framerate can ruin combos but I play it casually so it isn't something I've noticed.
Super Mario 3D World is clearly the winner among that group. Hope you end up getting it.
There is a demo of Sonic Lost World up on the eShop now. Just the first level and the save carries over to the full game. Personally I had no issues controlling Sonic during the level. Was able to have him running fast the entire time other then when I stopped on purpose to look around. I wish I had gotten it at launch instead of another game but will be getting it soon as I did like how it controlled. I just hope it doesn't fall apart in later levels.Cpt Smoker, after reading the DF analysis of Batman Origins... is it still "recommended"?

I bought many Super NES games at release and none of them were those outrageous prices (in Ohio). In fact, first party Nintendo games were usually $40. Third party were usually $50. I never bought games at TRU, though. I bought most of mine at either Babbage's or Kmart.
It wasn't until N64 that prices crept up to $60 and that was very excessive at the time, since PS1 games were $40 at worst. I still have a receipt from buying Tomb Raider 2 and it was $29.99 on release day.

Are you sure you're remembering correctly? Unless Ohio was special for some reason.
SNES games were regularly $60+ new. Some N64 games were even as high as $75-$80 at times, unbelievably. I paid $70 for Shadows of the Empire; that was the price everywhere for new copies when it came out. Luckily first party games usually weren't more than $60.

Buy it and enjoy it. If you get so down because of tech nerds counting: frames, texture resolution and pixels to the minutest degree deem a game midly inferior, why'd you buy a Wii U? The differences are going to negligible, despite what dramatic things they say.

This is probably the sweetest part about buying digital for me. Couple this with the fact that the game comes out on a Friday, which is my day off, and I'm gonna be having a pretty fucking awesome Thursday night. I just hope that three people downloading this game off the same Internet connection at the same time doesn't put too much of a strain on our download speeds.

Yea, they made their overall stance towards the Wii U as a platform well known and base everything around their prior system evaluations (hence the dumb comment about "slow" CPU in the Batman face-off). Besides, their analysis is entirely focused around performance and they ignored the overall less bug-ridden condition of the Wii U version when compared to the other ones so that should factor into the purchase decision of the players over 2-3 extra frames that get dropped occasionally. Unless all the people who actually played and liked how the WiiU version performed were all lying. Personally, I'd take a stutter every now and then over screen tearing any day of the week (Wii U is the only console version that has V-Sync enabled so no screen tearing).
Same thing happened for Splinter Cell Blacklist, btw. We had one outlet claiming Wii U version was superior (Lens of Truth) and one saying it was the inferior version (DF). It all comes down to where they put their priorities. DF seems to go by simple math and thus the high-rez texture pack of the 360 and lack of frame drops during cut-scenes trumps actual 720p resolution and lack of screen tearing.
What you need to do is the same as with review scores: don't look at the number or podium positions. Know what YOU value and contrast this with what the findings are. Definitely don't go by the idiotic OP doing the A>>>>>B>>>C>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>WiiU spiel but instead form your own opinion with the information provided to you.

I find it fascinating how they manage to make the WiiU version sound worse, treating screen tearing as a minor thing and then sliding in there how it's often the same on PS3.
You should be good going with the Wii U version. Going by reviews/impressions, the multiplayer isn't worth your while anyway.
Pro Controller: Yes, but only for co-op.
Also supports two-screen co-op (One person on the GamePad screen, the other having the full TV).

framerate issues may also be fixed for Batman though; didn't WB say they were going to release firmware to fix that? Or does that not pertain to the Wii U version? I played it on PS3 and there were frame rate issues and my system actually locked up twice (super slim) but overall it didn't impede my enjoyment of the game. If the Wii U version fairs similarly, then I would still recommend it to any Wii U owner. Its a great single player experience (and you're not missing anything with the lack of multiplayer)

When game developers do put the effort into the Wii U version, the results are indeed great and arguably superior but the hardware is such that time and effort needs to be invested to get those results.
