Just bought a Wii U. Surprisingly, there were no shortages.

Gamecube controllers won't work on Wii U.

You need a Wiimote (with motion plus) + nunchuck. The only other thing is a Wii pro controller, which is optional. You don't need that.

If you really never played any Wii games, it's worth it. You'll need Wiimote to play Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, and Zelda Skyward Sword. I'd also really recommend getting Wii sports resort. It's by far the best Wii sports game.

As others have said, you can't beat the free Wiimote packed in with Wii Party U now.

I guess there's also a controller packed in with Mario and Sonic at the Olympics.

I don't know if those bundles include a nunchuck, which is kind of bullshit. Luckily, they're only a couple bucks ... you'll need one. Can probably find them cheaper than this even.
im planning on getting an adapter

Did i do well?

Is this the backroom casting couch?
I can fap to this.

Yup, great thread and best Next-Gen console at the moment, imo.
I'm currently (re-) playing ZombiU + Wind Waker + Call of Duty Ghosts + Rabbids land
Haven't played W101 and Pikmin 3 yet. And Super Mario 3D World in ten days...yeah...now is the best time to buy a WiiU.

This thread has really been enjoyable, Ive been wantign to get a wii U since day 1, just never had the money, I got mine last week even when the PS4 was dangerously close to launching and I myself had enough money to buy it if I suddenly had the urge to, and ever since I got home not only have I been enjoying the console and all the little things it does, but these threads have just been popping up of people who jus genuinely enjoy the console, it really is a case of people who actually bought and use the console, and not just for one game and then pack it up, really enjoy it and want to see more of its full potential realized.

It's a solid little system for people who enjoy Nintendo games and a few exclusives on the side. The library's coming along too. Not what the market wants anymore it seems, but it doesn't mean it's not quality.

they got them online at places like newegg. i've yet to see one in stores either. dunno what is going on with them

I don't live in the US and Newegg won't send me one, I might get lucky and get one next week for around 375 bucks, because stores over here have it for about 450 bucks.

The NSMBU+Luigi U disc case has no manual!

Man, Nintendo, you were once the king of manuals. RIP.
While their Wii U manuals are not nearly as substantial as their Wii manuals, each retail game does come with a tri-lingual, colour manual that explains some basics and the controls. So far, only the mainly digital releases have had no manual (Wind Waker, NSLU, the pack in).

Each game does have a substantial digital manual, however.

To me, I dont get any console for just exclusives although thats what I mostly prefer, I get 3rd party games multiplatform or not all the time. I kinda have a beef with people who says "I only buy nintendo games for my nintendo console" and dont even look at anything else, nintendo was actually trying to change the mindset alot during both the 3DS and the wii U launch but the people who actually buy the consoles only stick to that mindset.

I totally agree. I have a ton of games for the Wii U and don't stick to only exclusives. The idea of not even looking at third party games just creates the climate we have now.

Yeah when I buy a wiiu I expect to go into the "wiiu games 2013" thread and say, "warn me if any of these 3rd party games is a crappy port" and then post a big list of the multiplats I'm interested in.

I don't buy 3rd party games because most of them just look boring for me, by principle I don't buy EA/Activision games... and I have a powerful PC for anything thats multiplataform so I think I'll end up with mostly 1st party games.

There's some cool games like Zombi U, Rayman Legends, MH3U, and Sonic... but my budget is awfully limited so I'll probably buy everything Nintendo first and then wait for those games to go lower in price. I do feel awful for Nintendo because I've always been a fan, and buying only 1st party games probably hurts them.

I'm living in a communal house in Cincinnati with 2 German women, a PC-only gamer, and a community outreach organizer and I introduced them all to Nintendo Land tonight. Best night we've had yet - it beat out our favorite board games and launched itself into our new favorite thing to do together. It was a blast!

Afterward, we got some Just Dance 2 going while the PC gamer and I played League of Legends. It was a wonderful night and it's great to see people enjoying my Wii U so much.

The community outreach organizer even commented on how everyone she knew was making fun of the wii u when it came out and she's surprised that it's so much fun. I really hate the videogame industry sometimes and how vocally anti-Nintendo it is.

[edit] In conclusion, don't forget about Nintendo Land! It's a party for 5!

Nintendo's portable and console output matches pretty closely to my taste and limited budget for gaming, so it seems to work out. Just a personal case.

Just to reiterate: I don't buy just Nintendo games, nor do I buy all Nintendo games. I just happen to be satisfied with some of their games + a few of their third party exclusives.

Nintendo would be stupid to do it but I would really love a Nintendo Land 2 ("Nintendo World"?) - more well crafted asymmetric games that one associates with activities at a physical children's playground.

Video game versions of games like hide-and-seek (similar to Mario Chase) are so rare.

I keep looking over at ZombiU on my shelf and wonder when ill buy my WiiU, sad thing is i don't want one in its current form.

I'd prefer DLC minigames expansions, probably handled how Wii Sports Club has been so far. A retail-released sequel would probably bomb, considering how little word of mouth the original Nintendoland had in the end.

Or alternatively turn the Luigi's Mansion minigame (aka the only part of Nitnendoland my friends consistently like playing) into a full-blown HD Pac-Man VS.

Just played the survivor mode yesterday again for 15 minutes until I had to stop. After 3 coffees and zombiu I had serious concerns about my heart.

You should play it. Today.

Is there a good guide for ZombiU out there?

If you really pace yourself and treat the game like you are going to die on every corner you have a chance. This is why this is as real as it gets for a real Zombi outbreak survival simulator.

Still on my first playthrough, there are some places that I thought were kind of cheap, like dude, you have to die here. So wondering if for my survival playthrough there is a place for some strategy in those places like they set you up.

This thread reminds me that I have a bunch of people whose NNIDs I need to collect. Where's that GAF NNID collection again?

So Ive barely touched Nintendoland. I played the Zelda and Metroid game for a couple a minutes a piece and they're both really cool, but man, Wonderful 101 completely owned my entire weekend. The game is fucking phenomenal.

The system is just so cool. I love the Miiverse and drawing pictures on the game boards!

Yes, I'd be fine with either! Nintendoland could really use the same leaderboarsd available in the Pikmin 2 mission system. Those leader boards are AWESOME. They show you how you compare much better than x out of x.

I'm really hoping Nintendo embraces digital distribution.

Right now I am saving to purchase a Wii U for myself, before I jump to a PS4 or One. I have been ready to grab one for about six months now since the library became deep enough for me to have plenty to play to make my purchase worth while. I can't wait to experience all this wonderful Nintendo content, I really can't! My buddy bought a used 8bg unit a while back and we played around with it and he told me to go ahead and borrow it, but I just couldn't do it, I wanted to have my own system. I think since I haven't played Wind Waker at all, I will opt for that bundle. Other greats I am looking forward to playing are Pikmin 3 (played the GameCube versions when they launched) and of course anything Mario bros related. I'd like to try W101, ZombiU, as well as some multiplatform games just to do my own comparisons, and for that I think Deus Ex is going to fit the bill. I think I will be buying sometime around Black Friday, but I am not sure if I will just wait until the Christmas holiday so my wife can buy the thing for me which would make her shopping easy. I love reading these new adopter threads, really cool vibes.

I would also recommend Splinter Cell: Blacklist or Assassin's Creed 4 if comparisons are what you seek (unless you hate those games). Batman: Arkham Origins had some interesting comparisons as well, despite not including any multiplayer elements (mine still remains wrapped on the shelf, along with the rest of my backlog =D)...

hmm well this is tempting, someone just posted the Zelda edition Wii U for $150 on Craigslist near me

edit: oh well someone beat me to it

Hey man, feel free to add my NNID, it's maxjen326. Anyway, you will have a lot of fun with Nintendo Land. Pikmin and DK are amazing, as are Zelda and Metroid.

Go for it!

I own one of these. All the sensor bar is, is some IR lights for the remotes to target. The only reason it need to be plugged in is for power.

So you can get a wireless one like this or you could just leave whichever system your current bar is plugged into on. As long as the bar has power the Wii remotes will work for anything you are playing whether that be Wii, Wii U or Dolphin.

I was just looking at that in Best Buy yesterday. How's the battery life? This might be a great alternative, and I wouldn't have to fiddle around with the stock sensor bar's super long cord.

I can't recall how many hours the batteries last until they require a change. It takes 4 AA's.

It has a feature to where it goes to sleep after either 1 or 2 hours and you can toggle that between the two settings, it will also show you a red light when the batteries are dying.

I like it because I can move it around the room to so if multiple people are playing I don't have to worry about some of the farther seats having issues with Wii remotes being tracked properly.

Was gonna tell you stop wasting time and go for it(as long as all seems legit, of course).

I got my deluxe for $290 - 2 months ago - and thought it was such a good deal. I feel like banging my head on the wall as I watch people being hesitant on some of the most amazing Wii U deals. What are you guys hoping/waiting for... a free giveaway?

If you really want the console, don't let those super-awesome deals pass you by, guys. If the console picks up, you won't see those prices for a very long time!

oh I emailed the guy before I posted here, I didn't wait for it

the ad had been up for two hours though but he said a previous buyer stopped communicating so it was available, we got a meet set up when he then emailed me saying the previous guy showed up with the money in hand so he sold it to that guy instead :(

I got my NSMB bundle Wii U last week when Rakuten had them for $265 and it's really awesome. Hopefully they put more content on the virtual console. Very happy overall.
