This does sound like it's either an app purchase that's pending or iCloud backup since it triggers once it detects WiFi.

We'll i don't use iCloud backups, only saved games. I has to be Summoner Wars. But I do not have the app open or active!

Anyone play Order and Chaos?

Okay, I played for about 3 hours now and can talk a little bit about Oceanhorn...

I am enjoying this game a lot at the moment, but this is NOT Wind Waker. Devs successfully identified almost every aspect of that game and overall Oceanhorn feels at first like it's Minish Cap meets Wind Waker on iPhone but I am afraid the game in the long run will disappoint with being unable to offer anything on par with Zelda games. For what it is, it's really fun and it's a must buy on the platform, but it's a copycat of the real thing and it seems to miss certain aspects of what makes Nintendo games so great. A "Legend of Zelda Lite" if you like. Like a knockoff, it will never be better or just as good, even though it looks super polished. Puzzles so far are just pushing boxes around to open the path or move them cleverly onto the switches to open the gate - I miss clever use of items and game mechanics - in this context, Oceanhorn feels like a "Link to the Past" from SNES, which game mechanics are what, 20 years old? Maybe the game will pick up on that later on, but the latest trailer shows that this is pretty much the extent of puzzle solving here. It also makes me worried about the gadgets because if they rely so much on Nintendo's creative output to make their game, I doubt they're going to do anything different or innovative here. Also, I am worried about more variety because so far it looks like every asset is heavily reused. I hope it's not the case later.

It's not like I am not enjoying it - quite the opposite actually, despite the ethics surrounding the game. What really surprised me is how big it still feels - support it, because it really pushes the envelope for original iOS games. For a higher price it would be unacceptable though. No, it's not Gameloft type of rip-off, but it's a blatant rip off nonetheless. I wonder, after seeing Zora and Rito counterparts if Nintendo can successfully file a case against them - and they would be 100% right in doing so.

The music is alright, the main theme is lovely, but a lot of times the tunes don't really seem to be in sync with the locale or the atmosphere, not to even mention it's pretty forgettable. Koji Kondo, it is not (again).

The real gripe is the controls - they are very tiring on iPhone 5. It's not its layout, but its response - the hero sometimes takes making a 270 degrees arc on the screen to turn considerably - which feels sluggish and cumbersome. With more characters on screen fights become a chore. Throwing items is far from perfect. Zelda on DS was very responsive with stylus based controls. They surely could copy this here as well?

So far great title for anyone who strongly feels about Zelda games and who'd like to support more fully fledged experiences on the platform. Oceanhorn is something iOS needed, anyway.

Anandtech reviewed the mini retina and noted that while CPU was clocked lower than the air. The GPU performance was near identical, so gaming shouldn't be any different for the most part.

Just saw that Oceanhorn has been released!

HYPE!

Anyone played it on the Mini? How's the performance on it compared to 5s?

Thanks guys!

Waiting to play some of the bigger games until iOS controllers go on sale, Deus Ex is amazing but I feel it will be better playing with a controller, same with some other games like oceanhorn.

I am all for touch games don't get me wrong, love it, but now that there is an option for a lot of games i'd prefer to stand my ipad up and use buttons when at home.

TA review noted that the mini 1 had some drops here and there otherwise it ran fine, no idea if visuals are toned down or anything.

New update for New Star Soccer came out a few days ago

Rebalancing of energy, skills and prices.

Fixed database issues in leagues Albania, Austria, Croatia, Korea, Scotland, Turkey, Botswana (If you are having problems try transferring to another country then back)
Fixed bug in Champs League and Europa League knock-out stages (African teams taking up places. This will take effect in your next season)
Fixed rare dilemma screen crash.
Increased ball size slightly for headers
Fixed constant night matches when not having pitch pack
Fixed stadium issue on iPad1

Anyone try it yet? Are the IAPs still ridiculous?

First, double click on the home button and "delete" (exit out) every app on the multitasking bar. After that go to settings > Apple ID and log out. Reboot (shutting down with the power button) and then again go to settings>Apple ID and log back in. See how it goes.
If this doesn't work connect to iTunes on a computer and check for available downloads, there might be one stuck in downloading something, either an app/book/movie or an update to some app.
If that doesn't fix it, then you need to completely delete Summoner Wars from your device, see if your device keeps asking for your Apple ID. If it doesn't, you know the culprit. Dunno if Summoner Wars supports iCloud back up, if it doesn't and you want to keep your save then use iFunBox to make a back up (check the OP for details.).

Let me know how it goes :)

Plus all those who pirated it.

Oceanhorn is in the Top 50 Top Grossing in 41 different countries currently including the US, UK, France, and Germany (the top spending Western nations), so seems the higher price is making up for the "low" download volume.

Do you have any experience or knowledge as a dev as to what the Top 50 correlates to financially?

It varies a lot by country (and potentially day to day) obviously, but in the US where they are currently 34 they should be earning $10-12k per day or so. A top 10 spot should be netting you $50k+ with the #1 spot around $100-150k.

Throw in all the rest of the countries taking note they are #7, #9, and #14 in Germany, France and the UK respectively and it quickly adds up .

In other words they are doing well, though the tough ask for iOS games is staying up the charts when the feature disappears a week later. The drop is usually sharp unless you have super strong word of mouth and/or viral hooks.

I wish Oceanhorn does well in Japan, maybe it would be a strong signal to devs there that the quality gaming is very much appreciated on the platform. In fairness, small studios couldn't think of a better place to make money.

Also this makes me VERY hopeful about the Premium gaming on iOS in general. The niche is here anyway and people seem willing to pay for it. I just hope they will be as generous with more original attempts. Otherwise I expect replaying a lot of my favourite classics, diluted.

I finally finished Sword and Sorcery and god, what a beautiful game, what a terrible game. The art direction overall is just amazing, like I have a hard time recalling any other title that feels so complete in this matter (though I'd love to see more of this). The game itself is very mediocre, very much a case of style over substance really. What a shame. Terrible writing, story that starts from nowhere really and goes nowhere, just tap from exit to exit, see what happens. But I guess it did change a lot about iOS gaming back when it was first released (and that also goes for having so many pixel art like games out here huh). It still looks and sounds absolutely fantastic.

The game is #17 top overall in Japan, but they are way down the top grossing chart at #153. Which I guess means a lot of people are downloading it, but people there are spending a lot more inside other games.

Has anyone played Papa Sangre 2? It sounds really interesting. I guess you put on headphones and the story is narrated to you and you can decide some actions on the screen. Narration is by Sean Bean of Game of Thrones and LoTR fame.

It's a game powered by your hearing instead of sight. AMAZING game. You close your eyes and listen to what's happening around you and you can pinpoint where something is by turning your body (I use a spinning chair. Highly recommended.) and the only buttons on the screen are for using your left and right arms and legs.

If you do what it says and close your eyes, turn off the lights, and get into it it feels pretty insane and even a little spooky.

EDIT: Sean Bean's voice whispering in your ear is sexy.

I logged out and back in from my account. So fr o good. I'll give it a couple days. If it doesn't work I will delete summoner wars and see what happens! Thanks!

Anyone playing GT Racing 2? I might be liking this more than RR3. The freemium aspects are less stingy and it looks and runs better.

Any experience of King's League? It was chosen as TAs game of the week but only received 2/5 from Pocket Tactics.

I've bought it but haven't played it yet. I've read it's fun but super short(3 hours). There's a flash version you can play to see if you like the gameplay.

Been playing it since day -20 or something, when ever the canada beta was out. Love it.

There is flaws but the first update they did just before global release fixed a bunch of them, before now you could wall ride corners ala Gran Turismo but now they will slow you down, AI feels a little adjusted, less broken time attack times and such.

However before the update all cars were available to buy via credits when ever you wanted, the update did a RR3 and locked higher tier cars behind an earned star limit with a choice to unlock via real money.

I am one of few to own the Supra right now unless you play a lot or pay :D

Things that they still need to fix: RWD cars being a pain to drive while FWD and AWD cars handle like go-karts, optional real time attack mode outside of the event list and multiplayer which is not unbalanced.

Just got a new iPad and picked up Ravenmark Mercenaries.

Am I missing something? Each contract gives me 10-30 silver, and my units have to rest for 19.5 hours after doing each contract. But to proceed with the story (white Major Contract), I have to have 7000 silver. Seems like it would take me days and days to even do the first story mission.

I've heard the series is great and I really like the gameplay I've played so far (Border Skirmishes are cool) but I hope I'm missing something here and the F2P hasn't gimped it.
The reward for completing all the events within that Major Contract is a Brigade. You've probably noticed that to buy a normal Brigade in the Hiring Grounds costs premium Lodestones, so the price of the Contract is set on the basis of similar value.

As the other guys mentioned, Mercs is a little thin on story content as we've spent majority of our time tweaking the multiplayer functionality since launch, adding things like the Arena mode and Advisors who give bonus buffs. We would love to add more story content if it becomes commercially viable... which could happen if more people played Mercs! We'll put it out on Android pretty soon so you can start playing with more friends. :)

Do give Ravenmark: Scourge of Estellion a shot if you haven't! It's got most of the same mechanics as Mercs, but delivered through a long story campaign that'll take a good 25-30 hours to complete!

Do cars ever drift off on higher tiers? I'm still on tier 1 and cars feels super stable no matter your speed is, unlike in RR3.

I emailed the company who suggested removing and reinstalling the game. It worked a charm although I lost all my progress.

Yep, I think I saw your post about it on TA. It's kind of annoying because I was pretty deep in the game, but I looked around with iExplore before deleting and reinstalling and it looked like my original save didn't actually survive the iOS 7 upgrade anyway.

New to the Ipad family, quite interested in its potential as a gaming platform.

I am looking forward to playing KOTOR and seeing if that translates well, is there a site you guys go to which reviews IOS games?

I am finding it quite hard to see what I should be looking forward to playing on my tablet as there seems to be so many games that sorting the good from the bad is not as easy as on a conventional platform any advice?

Toucharcade and Pocketgamer. The latter has an amazing app as well.

Anybody who likes Papa Sangre or its sequel should also try The Nightjar. Its by the same company and has a bit more of a sci-fi twist. Best part, its narrated by Benedict Cumberbatch.

So far, Oceanhorn is the best iOS game I've ever played (3 hours in and REALLY enjoying it @14% completion).

Could someone please explain it to me :( how do the achievements work, I have so so so many games where I have completed the achievement but the GC did not acknowledge it.

It's like using last.fm with broken scrobbling, and the worst part is that these achievements won't come back.

Blazing through my backlog so far, Rymdkapsel would be amazing if not the lack of content and more depth. All 3 missions in one go and the game has got nothing else to offer after that. A tad pricy for what it is, I blame Vita roots.

This is the bane of my existence-and kills any momentum or enthusiasm I have about games. It happens in nearly every iOS game I play-and it just happened to me in Tiny Death Star and Inifinity Blade 3. Apple really needs to make a better system than this.

Gamecenter is jank. I can play the same game the same way twice in one day, and one time it won't unlock achievements while the other time it will. This just happened in Football Heroes without me messing with any settings. It's not enough to kill my interest in a game, but I definitely don't give a crap about achievements when they're broken like that.

That's odd, I've never had Game Center achievement issues. All my achievements have unlocked properly, I think. Though my "last played" date isn't accurate when I access the OSX Game Center app. Weird 👽

I just check this thread religiously, it's even better now that I know who likes what and if their tastes are similar to mine.
TouchArcade are like a western branch of Famitsu as far as reviews are concerned: absolutely worthless.
Pocket Tactics isn't bad tho.

I'm replaying Sorcery! Part 1 before I delve into Part 2. I took an entirely different route this time, and I got stuck at Daddu-Ley, which is south-east on the map. Tried everything I could think of for half and hour and couldn't get out.
I fell off the cliff, used the feather weight spell and landed safely. I entered one of the caves, exited at the beach, and talked to a strange lady with golden hair who was busy weaving. She gave me a strand of her hair and said it would help me escape. But when I try to escape, the stars do not offer any recognizable spell. And no spell in my spell book uses a golden hair. Every time I try to cast an unknown spell, I fail and the tide rises and I drown. HELP!

I know I can just rewind and take a different path, but I wanna see how this route ends.

I would like to know this as well, because I'm in the very same situation.
Already completed the game taking (several different) northern routes...but regarding the south one (the first I tried!!!) I am exactly in your situation.
It's not that you can go there with other objects too, because going south there aren't any other branches.

One thing I have noticed (maybe due to a bug) is that in other situations I was able to press some letters even when NOT light up...but I didn't had the time to check back since I discovered that.

This!!!

Personally I liked NightJar a LOT more than Papa Sangre (I really do not like the setting, while I LOVE Alien).
I wish they will do a NightJar sequel...or something in that vein.
Very immersive experience.

Ah man, I'll definitely pick up Nightjar eventually but don't have the funds for it at the moment.

Did anybody pick up Ace Patrol: Pacific Skies?

So far, Oceanhorn is the best iOS game I've ever played (3 hours in and REALLY enjoying it @14% completion).

Quoting for truth. Oceanhorn is my favorite iOS game ever and I've been playing games on Iphones for several years. It's stunning and the soundtrack is O_o

Other recent release impressions:

King's League - After playing about an hour all I can say is I was bored. It seems to be like a monster training game but you are training people instead. You recruit different classes and then have these tournaments every few weeks (in game). The days are constantly ticking by on the screen and in between tournaments you can train stats by doing activities (it's just a bar that fills up, no minigames here at least so far). You can upgrade classes and go on sidequests that net you money. You upgrade facilities in towns that give you benefits. All of the battling is is on a 2D plane with your guys on the left and the enemy on the right. They run at each other and try to kill one another. It's all auto-pilot so you just watch it. Sidequests so far have all been exactly this too - just 1 screen and you kill some enemies. Anyways, I guess if you like this kind of game you might get into it but I found it grindy and boring personally. NOT recommended

Deemo - This is a rhythm game that uses piano a lot. It's "artsy" looking and as bars fall from the top of the screen you have to tap them or slide your fingers as they hit a horizontal bar that runs along the bottom of the phone screen. The songs are pretty so far, but I COMPLETELY suck at these kinds of games so even on the easy setting I'm having trouble doing well. Recommended to check out if you LOVE rhythm games? lol

Death Tower - I have only played about 30 minutes so far but it seems decent fun. You collect party members as you play and so far I have 4 people going into the dungeon with me. You get to choose your path through the game so that is sort of like a choose your own adventure book and is cool. Your people appear in a room that takes up the whole screen. There are enemies scattered about and pots/breakables that may contain items. You click on the screen to move your people and they all have AP (Action Points I think) that lower as you move around and attack or use special abilities. After clearing a room you can select from 1 or more doors to go through and keep fighting and clearing rooms until you find a boss room and defeat it. This seems to be the flow of the game. Your people level up and can increase class-specific abilities and like I said new people join your party as you play. Graphics are simple but get the job done. Recommended

Ittle Dew - After 2 emails to the developer, they have patched the glitch where the Iphone's UI was bleeding into the game screen (the battery life/time/signal line was visible in game at all times). Now, the game is playable!! I've been having fun with it and went in not knowing anything about it. It's zelda-like but simpler with a smaller focus. Their is an overworld and I've found 1 shop so far. Dungeons have enemies and hitting them with the "action" button seems to be a pain. I press the button and nothing happens sometimes, leading to me taking damage. Movement is OK - you can use gestures which I was apparently horrid at, or use a configurable Dpad that is really 4 disconnected arrows that are located in the bottom left of the game screen. That works much better but still doesn't quite feel perfect. Anyways, the music is cute, graphics are good and the block puzzles (the only kind of puzzle I have found so far) are all fun but nothing overly complex yet and I'm on the 2nd dungeon. Recommended

That's it for now. I still have Ravensword Shadowlands, Sorcery 1+2, Lone Wolf and Pathogen to play and will post impressions once I do.
