Persona 5 announced for PS3, winter 2014

Did Catherine and P4A have 360 versions announced at the same time as the PS3 version?

So far this seems like a PS3 exclusive.

I'm really happy it's for PS3--that means I can play it! It doesn't seem to have ties to P4, so that's good; I was worried they would try to keep it going with a new game.

Vita will likely get the enhanced port, why the sad face?

Import day 1

Unless region locked

Only reason that would happen I think is if the Japanese release and the Western release happen near simultaneously.

Only time will tell. I think people may be overestimating the darkness level though... I think whatever they put out with P5 will likely have as much appeal as the last two Persona games unless they want to take a huge risk...

I think that with three spin off games, a concert, three P3 movies and whatever other P3/4 stuff they can shill all happening in the same timeframe, P5 has the opportunity to be a more risky game. P3/P4 fans could literally ignore it in favor of all those things if they wanted. And with SMT having moved to the 3DS, it is possible for Atlus to want to keep some remnants of an actually dark feeling series in the next big Persona console game.

I feel like the only one to have expected P5 being saved for last.

Anyways. I am pleased. P5 on PS3 in 2014. That was exactly what I wanted. I am hyped.

I wouldn't think a core gamer would get rid of their old console. Regardless they've made the announcement far enough in advance and P4 had a similar release with no issues.

I wouldn't be opposed to them doing a cross gen release but I doubt it would justify the increased costs so I think the PS3 release is the best decision.

there are quite a few jrpgs coming to PS3 over next year, late localized games and new ones, small and high profile. There is nothing coming to PS4 next year that we know of, I don't think they have anything to worry about re audience for these games...

Actual sales > Potential Sales

Not to mention by the time it hits west if it happens, PS3 will be dirt cheap.

I'd rather they focus on getting 1 version of the game out first, before mucking up that process.

You guys are all right, but that's my point, i wasn't really asking Atlus to make a port but Sony to show support for JRPG's on the PS4 and fund it after they temselves didn't do anything for this Genre since a long time. (I don't count Demon's Souls as a classic JRPG)

I also don't ask this for myself, i will keep my PS3 like i do with all my consoles, so I will be fine. But i think it would be a good sign for Sony to have something like P5 on the PS4. For themselves and for other potential JRPG's that could follow.

I sent an email to Atlus asking if Persona 5 will be released on Xbox 360 in North America, not expecting a response back though.

Thank god they actually announced 5 finally. That was a trolling masterclass of shit.

2015 no doubt for the english release kinda blows chunks though. Will have been 6-7 years by then which is like, jesus fucking christ.

i dont care if we get just a port for the PS4. without any extra.. just release it on PSN for PS4 plz. >_<

with that being said.. FUCK YEAH i am going to play the fuck out of it.

I was really hoping for a vita/ps3 simultaneous release. Wouldn't mind getting rid of my PS3 for a Vita, since the only game that is of interest to me for PS3 is P5.

Nice! Would definitely double dip if a "vita verson" ever hits. I feel it's the perfect device to play on.

In saying that, we have no idea what it's going to look like graphically...

Sweet jesus. Finally. It's finally happening. Also that teaser was dark. I love it!

I don't even care that it's not coming to the new generation. I'm just incredibly excited that it's not a fucking handheld game. Besides, the way Catherine looked. This should turn out fantastic!

I fully expect them to mix P5 in with the P3/P4 crossovers that they are doing now at some point, so I don't think things can be too far off from those unless they want to keep those other games isolated. Have we seen much of the first two Persona games' casts recently?

Prematurely? Even with this announcement I would have never kept it around for that long. It's most likely still almost 2 years away for us.

Maybe if you're in Europe.
Atlus with the western releases has been pretty spot on this year.
Pretty sure they'll keep the trend with their best selling franchise in the west.

I really hope that the graphical style that was in Catherine can carry over to Persona 5 in a good way. The cutscenes in that game felt incredibly "real" for the lack of a better word (though the stellar localization and Troy Baker's phenomenal performance owed to a lot of that as well) and I want to see Persona try doing that too, even if the visual novel setup is partially what defines the series.
