So, taking Aeana at face valee, and I have no reason not to take Aeana at face value. The vague hinting seems to suggest that P5 was being worked on for the PS3 then development moved to the PS4 then back to the PS3? What could possibly be so limiting in this game that would make it such a one or the other thing. There seems to be work on both systems, why not just use that work and make it cross-platform?

There's that, But there's also the fact that you'd need to do like, 5 playthroughs to see all the romance outcomes.

Well, another fact is that the romance outcomes aren't that big, not even the half of Catherine's. It could be potentially deal breaker for some people, but if we have to look it once more, it gives completionist or new game+ player more incentive to replay the game. I'm not saying artificially extends the game like that is a good thing, it just having more than one romantic interest without consequences is really immersion breaking, especially when those (most) romantic interests gather in one place with the protagonist but nothing happened.

This current talk about no ps4 version reminds me when gow2 was annonuced for ps2 and not ps3. As it's been said ps3 even at the end of next year will have a larger install base than ps4 will.Makes sense especially budget wise.

You know, we only ever got a PS1 and PS2-level Persona (I guess PSP Persona 3 would be closer to what a 3DS persona would look like). Now we're going to get a PS3 level Persona, that should be a nice jump. Even though they're not using the engine in Catherine, that's still a good indication of what is possible for the game to look like at full scale - and that still excites me.

And IF the game was on Vita or PS4 and moved, there is no reason why a version still can't come out for those platforms once this one is successful. It just means a longer wait.

Everybody wins in the end. Persona for everybody!

Except that weird dancing game. Fuck that shit.
You know you're getting the dancing game.

Userbase = People who still play on their PS3s.
Maybe not in the west, but in the Japan I am pretty sure the PS3 userbase will still be active for a long time.

Are you new to the Persona series? It is not weird at all. Persona 3 and 4 were both released for the PS2 when the PS3 was already in the market.

I understand that, which is why I think they should just make it multiplat between PS3/PS4.

I'm okay with it not being on PS4 (either way the game will play the same on my TV) but I'm waiting with baited breath for them to announce the Vita version. They've just gotta. I will never be able to put in the hours I gave P4G to a console game. I just can't. It's disappointing.

I guess on the plus side on the long wait, I can finally replay and finish 3 & 4. I really want to watch the P4 anime, but have to wait until I beat 4.

I have to rebuy them also. :( Thank goodness they aren't that expensive on PS2.

I do. I want twenty year olds. I loved the bar setting in Catherine. If they have to go with school at least make it a university.

Then pray for Catherine 2. I think it's safe to say the high school setting has become synonymous with the Persona franchise.

They have a countdown to this for like 2 months and all they show is a 30 second video with a red background. Really? Not even a screenshot or anything....

OMG yes. I fell asleep about an hour before the reveal so I missed all the trolling. Knowing that P5 is a go, I can look forward to the Vita and 3DS spin-offs without being upset.

Look forward to buying Persona 5 remakes for the Vita/PS4 4 years from now.

Goddamn PS3 going out with a bang in its last year or two.

Do we have any screens or media of the game?

well to be fair Persona 3 in the west felt more like a "university" game mainly because of the dorm. First time playing it I thought it was college at a glance.

I do hope this one is set somewhere else than a high school, and has some better-written characters. P4 just got tedious at the end, and there's no more hiimdaisy to provide some much-needed levity for this sequel.

<speculation is fun>

Maybe they decided to move the game to PS4 at first then noticed.... no one else will be releasing anything substantial exclusively for it in Japan in 2014 (I mean, look at all the Japanese announcements for PS4, it doesn't look very good for next year, understandably so) and decided it's not wise to send their flagship game out there like that if people don't buy PS4 much next year which isn't even launching in Japan in 2013 like rest of the world. And maybe they don't have the resources or man power to tackle both at the same time like some other company might have.

In any case seems pointless to speculate over it right now.

I feel from previous generations, most of the Japanese developers, specially JRPG. Wait for a new FF game to come out then start to fully commit to that new PS platform when sizable audience has moved to it. I'm not sure if FF has that kind of effect anymore but still. So maybe 2015- 2016 things get better.

Well, I am glad that the game is exclusive to PS3. They can concentrate of making the best game possible while not having to worry about versions parity.

Also, who is the director, Hashino ? Is he the usual director for the Persona games or is he new ?

I guess it was silly of me to hope that this ended up on a platform that won't be sitting in my closet come Winter 2014...
