It's great that Persona 5 was finally announced, but I am glad I didn't force myself to stay up for that trailer. All that hyping for it and they showed jack shit.

If you honestly do not think that there will be a P5 golden or some other spinoff a year later or less, then you have not been paying attention for the past five to ten years in the gaming world.
Nah, I think it'll come in 2015/2016. But by that time, who knows how the platform's situation will be.
I was honestly expecting PS4/VITA for this game.

Opinions are great but sometimes they are just wrong. :P

I really do not have to messing around in photoshop

I think Sony getting gaikai ready in time is more likely than a ps4 port.

i guess Persona is the type of game where Gaikai can work, since it doesn't rely on twitch reflexes or anything.

but still, playing Persona on compress stream is >_<

I don't mind though. By the time Persona is out, PS3 will probably be on firesales, and I can get one even cheaper. I sold my PS3 in time for PS4, so it is what it is.

Highschool in North America can be some dingy, wicked shit. It would be nice as well if more of the characters in Persona 5 have more down to earth family structure, a lot of the Persona 4 cast had rich parents that owned a business. The Dojima family and the dynamics involved were incredibly captivating.

I kinda have to agree with you. In Japan some gamers are referring P4 as the tales of (comparatively) high-ranking society after all :P (not that they are dissing P4 totally of course).

I wouldn't say that.

PS4 was under consideration; that is true. It's still under consideration by the way, and I'm pretty sure that's what will happen too eventually. Where the wires got mixed was that some people didn't get the PS3 info, and only the PS4 part, and then later got the PS3 info too. I don't think there have been any other rumours floating around. Just one rumour that it's PS3, another that's it's PS4, and one final one that it's PS3/PS4.

Always Sony exclusive though. That's been a constant.
Interesting. Thanks for sharing. Just a straight ps4 version is more ideal for me but I'd be fine if I could just play a ps3 version through gaikai as well.

It's a bit of a shame it's not a PS4 exclusive instead. As mobile centric as Japan has become, I'm sure it didn't help that Japanese development wasn't exactly on its A game throughout the last generation. Games like this could help breathe life into the console market there, but by the time this is released, the PS3 will have already been completely overshadowed. Persona 5 could have joined Kingdom Hearts 3 and Final Fantasy XV on the PS4! Ah well.

Actually, there's a pretty good chance Gaikai will be up and running by the time this game is out, right? If you don't mind a bit of latency, maybe you'll still be able to play it on your PS4. (Edit: I see I'm late to that discussion!)

I wish I didn't feel this way but I can't get anywhere near as excited for any game announced for last gen.

Give me a PS4 Persona 5

With remote play. I was going to ask the question: "Why not ps4?" But PS3 has a large, established installed base, so the answer is obvious. Hopefully it gets ported to PS4, though, since the hardware is supposed to be much easier to work with than PS3.

I basically babbled nonsense words for about an hour after the 'reveal'. As much as we hoped for an actual trailer...just the confirmation is enough for me. Total hype.

I agree that Gaikai will be up by then but keeping the PS3 in good condition on the off chance it isn't. EXCITED!

Biggest question: Flip phones or smartphones?

It's gotta be smartphones by now, but flipping open a phone has a deliberateness I will miss.

I do. I want twenty year olds. I loved the bar setting in Catherine. If they have to go with school at least make it a university.

I'd love an older Persona as well, but I'm not sure the social links would work as well as in a high school setting. High school works because you have most of the day taken up by school in the first place. I guess you could have the main character stuck in a boring job all day but I'm not sure that would work as well.

I love Persona but can't say I'm not disappointed there's not a port coming to PS4 too (or just built for PS4 entirely, but that's another story). It took Atlus this long to finally make a HD Persona game and it's for the predecessor of a newly released console over a year later. At this rate if we do ever get a next-gen Persona game it'll be 2016-17 at the earliest. That seems absurd. I get selling to 60+ million is better for a smaller company than 3+ million but still disappointing.

Kiryu Kazuma from Yakuza uses a flip phone. If HE can make them look cool even today, they'll always be cool.

The fact that Xbox 360 owners got Catherine and Persona 4 Arena instead of Persona 5 makes absolutely no sense.

It makes a bit of sense. Catherine was a new IP and somewhat of an experiment as Atlus' first HD video game title using a third party engine.

Persona 4 Arena was a collaboration game and it was a fighting game as well.

Perhaps Atlus was not happy with the performance of both of those games on 360, which is why Persona 5 is a PS3 game. Same reason ASW's P4A2, BB:CP and Guilty Gear Xrd won't be on 360 either.

Was really hoping for a port of Persona 3 FES to the Vita with the PSP enhancement, guess we still dont have an ultimate version of the game.

Are there hard numbers out there for the sales of both Catherine and Persona 4 Arena on Xbox 360? It wouldn't change your point at all, I'm just wondering if those games bombed or had middling success.

That's probably why. This kind of game just has a tiny market on the X360, no point in wasting resources on it. By now, it should be pretty clear any real fan of Japanese games should probably stick with PlayStation and/or a Nintendo Handheld.

We live in the same world where Vesperia got released in the west on 360 with no PS release in sight. Who says it needs to make sense?

Didn't Microsoft pay for exclusivity for Vesperia in North America? From what I gathered they did and after that deal expired Namco decided it was too late/wasn't worth it.

This is sad for people who bought the Vita to play Persona. I know some people who bought the entire collection on the platform just expecting this to be out on the Vita... Well, I guess it'll come there eventually...

It doesn't make a lot of sense to buy a handheld system to play a game that released 4x on consoles with handheld ports.

I really wonder why people who hate Anime Tropes don't just play other Megaten games like SMT or DDS. A lot of people on GAF don't seem to get that the whole point of Persona is that its supposed to appeal to the teen/anime audience.

Well, I do and I would still like to see an older cast. Citing the whole brand is meant to appeal to said audience doesn't take into account that Persona 2 had an adult cast and a lot of people who started playing Persona 3 and 4 in their teens are now adults. I wouldn't be gravely disappointed if they did the high school thing again, but I'd love to see them try and tackle a new demographic.
