I think we've seen hints at the new Teddie already and he's a creature comprised of chairs.
 
Does anyone remember if the initial Persona 3 and 4 teasers were ever as grim as this one? If not, it could mean that they're going into a much grittier direction with P5.

Yup.

If you want to see Soejima's artstyle translated into 3D really well, best look at Catherine for PS3/360 and Persona 4: Dancing All Night for Vita. I think those two are a pretty good indication of what to expect from a visual perspective.

I'd say just Catherine, honestly. The teaser trailer basically Persona 2 meets Catherine's visual style. :S

Both of them had dark elements, but neither game was quite as grim. This is a step in a different (and extremely interesting) direction...

The P3 one in particular was dark when it came to story.

4 is probably the easiest to get into because you have more control of your party but three is darker and some people like that. Any of those two are fine though since the stories are pretty much self contained. The original Playstation ones were completely different beast that don't really give a good feel for what modern Persona is now. I'd play them last as sort of a bonus if you really love the series after 3 and 4.

Yeah, 3 can be annoying annoying about not having control of party, it gets a bit better as you unlock party tactics and are able to predict the AI better.

I have a feeling that they're making Persona 5 pretty grim and making the other accounced spin offs more light hearted to make up for it.

Agreed, although with the caveat that I hate the word gritty in reference to video games. I think a darker tone will do the series good, Persona 4 was alright but it was on jovial end.
 
This pretty much confirms what I expect, most Japanese companies will still support the PS3 with new iterations and releases for a while.

Looking forward to the game, hopefully we get a female MC from the start, since that really made P3 Portable such a fun experience.

That's totally how I feel too. It's like they wanted to go all out on a final round of fanservice, sugar and rainbows for the P3/P4 fanbase with the other three games before moving into a completely different direction with P5.

I doubt they are going in a completely different direction. I feel like the trailer was more about the overall theme than it was about the whole game. Of course only time will tell but I am willing to bet that it will be at least as light as three which wasn't really that much darker than 4.

Laughed at this. Pretty ridiculous idea tbh. PS3 will be going for a couple years yet at least.

Watch Persona 5 be the best selling entry in the series by a wide margin when it comes out. Would bet my account on it.
 
So glad it seems to be more serious like 3 and less Scooby Doo like 4.

I mean 4's lightness was fine but I didn't want that again.

Why would they go in a completely different direction when Persona 3 and 4 are as popular as they are?

You know, I didn't mind Teddie at first, though I was sure I'd hate him going in...
But
when he became human,
that made him hard to stand.
 
Had a great troll moment messaging my friend and telling him the next Persona game was on 3DS. After his freakout I calmly followed up explaining that Persona Q was a spinoff and then Persona 5 will come out exclusive to PS3....hahaha

Yeah people say stuff like this alot but rather than the PS3/360 being dead in a year or 2, to me it's more like, thats when the new consoles will only just finally be starting to live.

Seriously. That's similar to saying Square Enix was experimenting with the more modern feel of the 3D Final Fantasies before returning to D&D type of characters.


Persona 3 and 4 are popular shit, with P4 being the most popular. That's a winning formula. They're gonna keep the dating sim aspect and probably have some cutesy slice of life stuff. The nitty gritty stuff can be found in SMT.
 
What I'm reading: not necessary exclusive nor just on older-gen console(s). Any new developments that would suggest otherwise?

If they take a year to localize this it's going to kill me (will import most likely anyways, but still).
