You're what's wrong with the game industry.
All of these spinoffs are kinda giving me a Final Fantasy vibe as it stands. Which isn't a flattering thing.

Nah, that's not me. I'm one of the people who abhorred the idea of a Persona 4-2 and I'm so glad that Persona 5 seems like it's going to be its own thing.

What I'm reading: not necessary exclusive nor just on older-gen console(s). Any new developments that would suggest otherwise?

If they take a year to localize this it's going to kill me (will import most likely anyways, but still).

I sincerely doubt Atlus would take its sweet time localizing the next installment in their largest franchise if they put out SMT IV two months after its Japanese release.

As happy as I am this is coming to PS3, mine burnt along with my house back in March and I have no plans on purchasing another PS3. I really hope this ends up on PS4 eventually.

Lady Gaga is doing the soundtrack.

It all makes sense now.

HELLO HELLO BABY

How long did it take Cathrine to be localized?

Five months. Circumstances might have changed since then, however. P5 is probably larger in scope than Catherine, Atlus USA's localization process might have been refined given P4A and SMTIV, maybe the SEGA acquisition changed their localization process...

Lots of variables. I don't like it...

Didn't read through this thread, but am I the only one who doesn't want to see this take place in a highschool setting with a bunch of teens leading the charge like the last two games?

One of the things that pulled me into Persona 2 was the setting and characters. Typical, non-sexualized female lead; an adult (20-something); took place in an office setting. It was so different from anything I had ever played that I put up with the sluggish battle system all the way to the end.

I want to see something different. Not just for the sake of being different mind you, but because I genuinely think the Persona series can cover a lot of ground that hasn't been covered before in a JRPG setting brilliantly. It taking place at a police department with a new recruit starting on his/her training day could be awesome, for instance.

I'm 100% with you one this. I really didn't care for any of the characters in P3 or P4 ( and I hated the social links) but P2 EP had a lasting impression on me due to the setting. When I heard P3 was announced, I was disappointed about the school setting and honestly made the whole game drag.

Does anyone remember if the initial Persona 3 and 4 teasers were ever as grim as this one? If not, it could mean that they're going into a much grittier direction with P5.

I can only hope. Something more in line with 3, or darker, would be brilliant. We will see how they choose to portray it in marketing in the coming months.

so is the winter 2014 release still unknown as to whether or not it means dec 2014 or jan/feb 2014?

and all of this persona hype has made me pick up P3P again. i had trouble sticking with it since some of the mechanics are much better in P4G but now im determined to finish it.

If it was Jan/Feb 2014, it would've been "Early 2014". It's late next year.

I wouldn't mind a darker direction compared to P4 (in fact, I expect one based on the general tone of the teaser), but I should hope it doesn't remind me at all of how P3 did it.

The 3DS successor and whatever Sony is replacing the Vita with will probably be coming out by then.

I almost feel like sony's not gonna get back into handhelds. Maybe a tablet that doubles as a console?

As for the 3DS successor, given Nintendo's history with hardware, my guess the next nintendo portable will be either equal to or only slightly greater than the vita powerwise.

I was really hoping that Nintendo had got them to release this for the Wii U as well. Now I can't put my PS3 away for another year :(

Given the way mobile tech is evolving if the next device doesn't have 3D it should be more than slightly greater than the Vita. I have no idea what Sony is going to do next though.

Yeah, that is the worst part :/ I wish it would be released earlier or at least for it to be released worldwide in late 2014.

Who knows, maybe it will. Atlus USA has been experimenting with quick turnarounds (simultaneous localization of P4A, near-simultaneous localization of SMTIV) and this is obviously a big deal for them, so they might be trying to get it as quickly as possible.

My guess is Nintendo did talk to Atlus, and they got SMT X FE plus PQ.
I guess Atlus is not willing to give up PlayStation exclusivity, for the fact that they've got soundtracks and TV show series under Sony's hand...

Don't know why Atlus USA would handle distribution to PAL regions, Sega should just cough up the money to create a PAL branch.

Even then, I think that would be asking of Sega too much.
