Being from the west, where Monster Hunter has never really caught on, I don't really care where Monster Hunter is now.
But if you want to play that game, let's look at Final Fantasy.
Started out on Nintendo consoles only. Then Square moved it to Sony because the media format was better suited to the games they wanted to make. Then they went multiplatform because the development cost was favorable when compared to the profits they could make through additional sales. And now they're making remakes of everything under the sun for portable platforms (back on Nintendo in some way) and continuing to put the next gen games on the systems that can handle them (I wouldn't be surprised if FF15 comes to PC as well, since PS4/xbone have PC architectures that make porting easier). There's even a slew of games on iOS (and maybe android?).
The real take away is that publishers put their games on systems with the install base that they think will maximize their sales for the development costs incurred (hence the flood of iOS games). So the real thing to worry about, if you're going to worry about what affects the Vita getting games is (1) the install base of the system and (2) the ease of porting code that runs on PS4 to the Vita.
At least that's how I see it.
