I'm not a blind defender of his

This is one of the dumbest things Kanye has said. Obama is from Chicago, he has tons of big money connections. He was Goldman Sach's preferred candidate in 2007/2008.

Even if he was white he wouldn't be able to get everything he wanted done. Especially if he was as poor of a negotiator.

He makes a leap thats wrong. But Obama has less connections than Bush. White people have more connections in the elite than blacks. I think that's the takeaway, and its clearer in the context of the whole intervie but Ye gon Ye.

That's really dumb then, considering he's one of a small subset of black men with a platform to reach a broad audience, power, and money. Thats on the discreditors, not Kanye.

Its a shame Kanye is such a self-absorbed, narcissist, not the audience he preaches to. If he had good points to be made, he'd make them and people would applaud those ideas. Unfortunately, all of his rants are saturated in complete hypocritical, ignorant shit that everything he does and says is rightly despised.

Some people actually look up to this guy. Not sure what's worse actually.
Over under on how many Ye songs you've listened to?

Ye is a crazy egomaniac. But his message overall is pretty good, especially if you listen to his music, and then place his quotes in the context of his overall messages.

Isn't he just saying that black people in general have a lower level of social capital than most other racial groups? I don't think that's all that controversial.

Except I think he makes good points here and there, but people can't handle a brash, outspoken black dude who likely has more money than them. If Ye were white, hed be lovable crazy rockstar dude with a social conscience. But he's just a crazy angry black dude.

Bro, you love Kanye so much if he defended slavery, Nazi germany, really anything you would come in here with the cape and shield demanding people not marginalize what he's saying.

But there is some truth to what he's saying. Feel free to call him a moron or a dumbass, but to ignore the kernels of truth he drops is to ignore a chance to change shit.
Maybe instead of trying to dig kernels of truth out of Kanye's shit, people would be better served listening to people like Barack Obama, the President of the United States.

This is truly amazing spin. As if Kanye had anywhere near the social commentary that Bob Dylan did in regards to the broken American society of his time, racial inequality and as a champion to the Civil Rights Movement, and the mishandling of the Vietnam war, just to name a few examples; people would be out on the streets protesting but instead all they do is watch Keeping Up with the Kardashian's, because Kanye's music inspires shit.

Have you ever listened to a Kanye song? Serious question.

Or listen to both?

Listen to his music if you like his music, but don't kill braincells trying to cram usable information out of anything he says. Of the two Grammy award winning artists, I take Obama for dropping actual knowledge. Yes, I have listened to a Kanye song. Have you ever read an Obama book?

I own College Dropout and Late Registration. I've listened to every album he's made, own most of the singles off of them. Great production value, absolutely terrible lyricist and he can't flow for shit.

His message is terrible as well. Should have kept to beats.

Can't say I have as much as you have. He has amazing production values to his music, but production values don't impart compelling messages.

How about I challenge you to provide me with some music from his catalog that will change my mind. I've never purchased a Kanye album, because the hits he releases never compel me to, so maybe there are some gems I've missed because of this.

Provide me some links, I'll give them a fair shake.

And yet Obama has more "connections" than every non-Bush president since at least Nixon. Let's be real, the Bush family was a dynasty and like the Kennedys had long lasting connections. Clinton was the governor of a small state, Reagan was the governor of California, Carter was the governor of a southern state, Gerald Ford was Gerald Ford. Obama has been connected to money men for years, let's not pretend like being black hurt him in that regard.

At the end of the day he is the president of the United States. He has all the marbles.

Most of his songs have social commentary in them, the above are some of the most overt.

He's not really saying anything outrageous here. There's truth to it, but of course being GAF, I'll be considered a "Stan" and idiot because I'm not listening to everything he says with a negative bias.

He's saying that racism still exists within the "elite." Just because we have a black president doesn't mean suddenly everyone's stopped being racist. There's probably people under Obama's administration who are racists themselves.

For example, healthcare.gov would have launched fully-tested and bug free, if only the Pres wore a Yarmulke once in a while.

This says a lot more to me that being president alone.
Some people think because the president is black everything was a-okay now.
nope it worse and at historic levels too (see chart).
So dont tell me that Obama has any more influence if he cant even get nominations approved
and for some reason the top priority of the whole republican party during a recession was to tie down the most "powerful man in the world".

Get back to what you're good at Kanye. Make music, not philosophy.

Huh? What did I say? Did I screw up again? :(
Kanye, I know you're trying to help but your ignorance is piss. You cant go feeding people knowledge with piss in it.

You guys are such haters. Obviously, and this is obvious to anyone who listened to the whole interview, Ye wasn't talking about modern day "Jews", he was talking about the ancestors of the state of Judah, an Iron Age kingdom in the southern part of the modern country of Israel, which later was conquered by the Babylonians and formed part of the Chaldean dynasty.

It was actually a pretty funny joke because Chaldea was situated between the Tigris and the Euphrates, which formed their entire economy. As such, they became known in these times as water men because they would always deliver their goods via the estuaries that formed their mercantile network.

Essentially, Ye was making a clever pun on "oil men" and "water men" meaning that Obama doesn't have as many connections as water and a hydrophobic liquid, essentially that he has no connections at all!

But no, because it's Ye you immediately jump to the racist, ignorant shit as if he just rants without thinking. You guys are vultures.

also, rants and difficulty expressing himself aside.

WHY DOES NOBODY ACTUALLY UNDERSTAND WHAT HE IS SAYING ABOUT NO BLACK PEOPLE BEING ABLE TO BREAK DOWN THE BARRIERS TO HIGH FASHION!?!?!?!?!

"Jews use their Jewy connections to run things" is an old antisemitic idea. This is fairly common knowledge.

Not the first time he's ventured into this ugly area, either.

http://www.israellycool.com/2013/11/29/kanye-west-antisemite/

Is that a direct quote from Kanye? I don't see that anywhere. Because from the video, what he said isnt a lie. I live near crown heights and the Jewish community does have a lot of financial/real estate connections compared to the different black communities around here. A lot of wealth is passed down and inherited. and due to efforts of denying black people loans and such from the government wealth wasn't accrued and then passed down.

Complaining the Jews control Crown Heights and keep the black man down is about 20 years out of date, Al.

well, I thought that was obvious lol.
And I was trying to show opposition to his powers at a high level enabling him to do his job and have influence.

What does it have to do with him not having "connections?" We're seeing historic obstruction due to republican congressmen/senators appeasing their base, which hates Obama on a visceral level (and a racist level, for some not all).

How so? I'm not even defending him on his whole interview- Kanye's delivery is manic and egotistical. But this specific point, hes hit on truth.

If you don't think that the negative perception of an angry black man, as characterized by my post, exists in the modern American consciousness- then I don't know what to tell you.

This isn't about defending Kanye- its just about pointing out the truths set out in the specific quote in the OP. If that's humiliating myself, then so be it.
