Probably, dunno how big they are + whether they could support two projects.
Not exactly huge, but too big to just be working on Art Academy I think:

Shhh. That doesn't count for reasons no one can explain.

Quite simple to explain really. "Entitled" gamers complain about something they want. Nintendo gives it to them. They then complain about something else they want. Repeat ad infinitium. It's a neverending cycle. As W101 may be a new IP but people will claim while they wanted a new IP, it isn't the new IP they wanted, had in mind, or were expecting.

It was probably a mistake to release pikmin 3 and wonderful 101 so close to each other.

1 thing i think we'll see is something related to mobile that will tie in to the wiiu/ds somehow.

If they start using mobile games as a form of marketing and advertising to bridge into their consoles they will kick some ass..Imagine them dominating the app game charts.Should be easy for them by just parting out the right mini-game, et.c

>New Smash trailer
>Snake is back
>New challenger: Bayonetta joins the battle
>New Bayonetta 2 trailer
>The original Bayonetta announced to be ported in a definitive version prior to launch of Bayonetta 2
>One more trailer: Zelda U
>Minds blown

I feel this is one of those expectations vs reality situations where the reality will be a new DKCTF trailer :V

Jesus I think I might die after a announcement like that.
There's just to much awesome to contain.

Like everyone else i'm going in expecting nothing big.
After being screwed over when they teased Retro's next big game was DK I expect us to get a trailer for something nonsensical .

STOP... TAUNTING... ME!

Even though it would probably be a terrible move for their public image/relations with the gaming media, I would be pretty entertained if they just had a small announcement (like the DKC 4th character) and then had a quick side note of "there will be a Nintendo Direct airing starting right NOW".

The announcement of Bayonetta would be cadaverous of Nintendo, a move I would have no hesitation in placing in their top five worst entertainment announcements of all time.

Of course it counts. But it has neither the critical acclaim nor the sales to make it the type of game you can name drop in a thread and throw the mic down.

It didn't get the sales because no one brought it, though Nintendo not advertising the game and low Wii U salesdidn't help but it did get critical acclaim from the fan based who enjoyed the game.

> People ask for new IP
> People proceed to not buy new IP
> See Wonderful 101

Yep, it's an endless cycle with people being very picky and moving the goal post just to make their point work.

Gets very annoying after awhile.

Nice fanfic

I really have no clue what they are going to do, as it's such a douchey event in general anyways. Just unbearable to watch the other times I've seen it. The only thing for this audience I feel would be Zelda or Smash Bros., but, we'll see.

God will freeze over if that happens LOL. We might all just fall out

so the only interesting thing is the first trailer for the already announced new Zelda?

I don't think Spike would allot that much time to Nintendo. Reggie will get 1-2 minutes including a trailer and that's all they'll give him, if that. Nintendo isn't exactly the media/mainstream's darling at the moment, unless they're talking about how much they are doomed.

New Smash characters, a port of an old game and a trailer for Smash? The only thing that list that would hype me is the trailer for Zelda U. I'd rather have them surprise me and show some new, unexpected game.

VGX hasn't exactly been a pantheon for new IP reveals. There's been a few, but not enough to expect any sort of precedent. Keeo your expectations to the ground.

I would love to see "X" revealed (with the real name) and have a story trailer with some gameplay mixed in. But yeah, that won't happen. :(

Either that or Zelda U would make me freak out with excitement. But again, that won't happen either. D:

Xenosaga 4

Xenogears 2

Xeno Trigger

Possible WTF contenders.

I want a trailer for the next game in the Metroid Prime series. Would be amazing.

You think after so many shitty E3 conferences and lackluster NDs, a small appearance at a game show would make people have some realistic expectations here.

Great will be the day when people understand that who says new IP actually mean a new series made with a new IP that will always appear on the next consoles and not an "una tantum" game.

Reggie is there to announce an Iwata Asks with Geoff Keighley about the making of the Bonus Round.

Can you understand the success of said game in a new IP is the determining factor as to whether or not it is going to get sequels?

If W101 ended up selling a shit-ton Nintendo and PlatinumGames would be more than happy to provide other games in the series. Even Kamiya said he would like to make a sequel and was already toying with ideas for it.

A good trailer for X is what they should show. Seems like the type of game that would pique the interest of my Xbox and PS buying friends.

It's Nintendo so all I'm expecting is Reggie doing his boring PR speak and trying to convince us why the Wii U is the right choice for Christmas.

The first one had a lot of competition. Not so much on Wii U
By the time it's out there will be a lot of games new Wii U owners get to choose from. Hell, Bayonetta didn't even do that well after it dropped in price.

The way I see it, Bayonetta 2 and SSBU belong to genres that at least have a chance of appealing to that crowd. X, on the other hand, is a JRPG. That, plus the fact that it doesn't have Final Fantasy or Tales of in its name is almost a surefire way to make sure nobody gives a shit about it, unfortunately.
The argument Shikamaru Ninja was saying was that there should be an amount of Nintendo fans who've become MS or Sony gamers through the past few years. Smash Bros should already be well known to them. Why waste a chance showing Smash Bros when you can display new games? It's true that X may not appeal to that crowd but if they focus on certain aspects of X that makes it unique compared to those other jRPGs then I think it stands a chance even against Bayonetta 2, which I feel will struggle even more than X. Show multiplayer, boss battles, mech battles etc. and you stand a chance of getting the attention of those gamers you want. I'm sure if you've played Xenoblade then you know how much better the characters and story were compared to the most recent Tales and Final Fantasy games. I don't like Final Fantasy or Tales but I loved Xenoblade for being different.

I think you underestimate the sheer amount of former Nintendo fans who don't buy Nintendo consoles anymore. Over 7 million gamers bought The Ocarina of Time, and over 3 million gamers purchased Star Fox 64. This was in the late 1990s. A long time has passed between the passionate N64 userbase and the Wii / Wii U.
Or maybe you overestimate that crowd. Smash isn't necessarily a system seller with that crowd. This is pure anecdotal but a lot of people who are in that "crowd" tend to just play a friends console since Smash is more of a local game that never focused on it's online aspect. I doubt they'll care enough about online to consider a purchase themselves. Meanwhile, in my opinion, if they show off Zelda or X they have a chance of getting people from that "crowd" into purchasing their console. I don't disagree that Smash will be shown, but I feel as if they can use that time to show off some rather unknown games that those gamers haven't heard of as opposed to a more stable IP like Smash Bros.

Can you understand the success of said game in a new IP is the determining factor as to whether or not it is going to get sequels?
It's not the only factor though, if the team/company behind it believes in the IP they will make sequels nonetheless then if after 2-3 tries the IP flops then it's buried. One memorable historical mention would be Street Fighter.
Also W101 is a terrible example because while the IP is in nintendo's hands the game is done by another studio and after they leave N might not know what to do with the ip.

People want a new series with a new ip that is given the same importance as Mario/Zelda/Metroid and they want it to be sure that will be a staple in the future portfolio of Nintendo and not only present as a mention of that kind of cool game that was released once on that +10 years old console.

After all that and the ,,surprise'' has already been leaked. (Donkey Kong trailer starring new character) lol
Well, if it's even that. Maybe Reggie just accepts the award for best handheld game and leaves.

Reggie will announce that Nintendo plans to announce something with regards to the next nintendo direct which will be about announcements of announcements to come in E3. E3 will hit and Nintendo will announce that games were delayed and tell us to wait for further announcements.

True story.

Or maybe you overestimate that crowd.

I agree. I am a massive Nintendo fan but even I have come to the understanding that times have past. A little perspective - I was the core customer for the Nintendo 64. When Goldeneye 007 came out I was in 7th grade. By the time I was a senior in highschool I was playing Halo on the original Xbox.

In retrospect, a kid who is a senior in highschool right now could have been playing their Xbox 360 with a yearly Call of Duty release taking up their November each and every one of those years since they were in 7th grade. A franchise like Call of Duty has literally flooded, saturated and come to define an entire generation of gamers from the beginning.

It is easy to miss this detail, as we all know as you get older years start feeling like months/weeks/days, but try wrapping your head around this. There have been 7 major Call of Duty releases in 7 years. Someone who is legally able to drink could have been playing the same series day in and day out with yearly updates since they were 14 years old.

Time's have changed, the player base has changed. 7 million copies of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time have no relation to the 35 million people that bought Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

New Zelda or Metroid. That's the only game I can think of that would be worth appearing on that show for.

Although announcing Bayonetta for Smash Bros would be nice.

Nintendo isn't like Square Enix.

That's an unrealistic expectation. Nintendo's not gonna come out with a game and be like "hey, we're gonna release sequels for this title for the next 30 years! Enjoy!" They have to be financially viable. Games like Metroid weren't created with the idea that they would be lasting forever. They're games, designed in the moment to take advantage of whatever ideas the creators have at the time.

And if Wonderful 101 was a tremendous success you'd better believe Nintendo would've done whatever they could to keep it going.
