Just bought a Wii U. Surprisingly, there were no shortages.

My 7 year old daughter plays Mario 3D and its a great game for kids. When they die enough times (and they always do) they give you an invincible power-up for the entire board.

I think that's great since the platforming and jumping still needs to be done. It teaches kids how to play while they can still have that feeling of wining a game.

Guys, I need your help! I own a Wii U since day 1 but I still need your advice for my Christmas shopping. I'll get Super Mario 3D World and one more game. But which one? I'm interested in:

- Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag (considered ACIII to be widely boring, but hey... I like pirates!)
- Rayman Legends (didn't play Origin, was never a big fan of Rayman)
- Splinter Cell
- Deus Ex

Rayman, Splinter Cell and Deus Ex might be available for a low price point. Is anyone aware of good deals going on right now (Germany or UK)?

I already own The Wind Waker HD, Pikmin 3, The Wonderful 101, etc.

Rayman, Assassin's Creed and Deus Ex are all solid games, I don't know enough about Splinter Cell to say either way. Rayman is quite a funny game - the first I played and well worth it. But if you didn't like previous games in the series, it may not be your cup of tea.

As for Assassin's Creed and Deus Ex, the latter is cheaper due to being more or less a re-release, while the former is one of the best games of the year. I think there's more replayability in Assassin's Creed than Deus Ex, and I would recommend it anyway... the last game was dull to say the least, but this one is enormous fun.

I don't have AC4 for Wii U, I have it for PS4. But I love that game! I imagine its great on Wii U too, especially with the extra map features on the gamepad.

I think it would be pretty funny if Nintendo just leaked bundles to sellers on eBay, 2000 units at a time, told them to price them at $250 and clear the stock.

Just do that once a week or so for awhile and gradually get to that magic $249 price point permanently.

Yo.

Dat'd be smart.

They do use an account system but those accounts are tied to Wii U's. Unlike what D-e-f- says I don't think they will ever allow you to switch freely between accounts on different consoles (at least not in the near future).

I wasn't being specific about what the "right direction" would entail for a reason. :D

System hopping at will will probably never happen.

Rayman is a great game and has some great use of the touchpad. It's also at a very good price.

I own everything you have listed by Deus Ex.

I can tell you this:

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag is beautiful and immeasurably better than Assassin's Creed III.

Rayman is absolutely fantastic and 100% deserves your attention.

Splinter Cell: Black List is very good, although the sensation of "port" feels stronger with this game.

Rayman. Personally, I still don't like the touchpad integration for that game, and think it's better played with a standard controller, and at that point, you might as well get it for PC. But if you're looking a really great game, that's more than likely up your alley.

AC4 is good too, I'd just say, wait until Ubisoft fixes the PC version. But if you don't have a PC that can handle it, it's fine on the Wii too. You're gonna miss out on the sexy new rain though.

Fantastic thread :-)
The Wii U is building some steam with hardcore gamers.

If I'm honest with myself though, the Wii U probably won't be anywhere near winning this generation in the traditional sense. But does that really matter? As long as Nintendo sell enough of their own games they will make money and keep developing their own fantastic titles. And that will be enough for us, because let's face it, most gafers aren't content with one console anyway.

What excites me about the future of the Wii U oddly enough isI ALBW, combined with how good SM3DW looks. ALBW is in my opinion perhaps the most purely fun game in the series, and a new Zelda in a similar style with the level of graphical fidelity Mario has shown makes me all tingly inside.

I got a Navy Exchange flier a few days ago in the mail for a sale December 4-24 and inside it shows the Wii-U Deluxe system with NSMBU and Luigi U for $199.

$199 tax free for all that? And it comes with one of those scratch off cards that can be scratched for each purchased item to take off an additional 5, 10, 15, 25, or 50% off. Like a savings lottery I guess.

Definitely doing this tomorrow morning. I don't care if it's a misprint. I'm taking the catalog with me and demanding they match the price they put in the flier. And punching in the item number online comes up with that exact item so I know it's not an accidental bundle picture when they wanted to sell a non-bundle at $199.

Nintendo, specifically, needs to do better than they have been. The WiiU is coming into it's own, but Nintendo has been a bastion of mismanagement with this thing. They're going to have to make some big moves for next year, when the PS4 and hte XBone actually become worth the money.

That's a damn fine deal right there.

Just placed an order for the black Pro controller. I can't use the gamepad anymore. I just hate it. I didn't see it on Amazon's site, but I presume I'm getting a charging cable with it.

Just joined the cool kids and got myself a Wii U too. Cyber Monday deal at Game, premium Wind Waker bundle for £200, picked up a motion plus controller on ebay. Should be arriving tomorrow, pretty excited about it all! Also hi everyone, newbie here.

What are the best party games available for the Wii/Wii U. Never owned a Wii so any of those are free game.

I think I have most the notable ones though... wii sports, wii u party, raving rabbids, nintendoland, etc.

As there are a lot of new owners and a lot of questions about games here are two threads that can help you in addition to the recommendations here:

Welcome to the joyful club!

My recommendation:
Best first party games: Super Mario 3d World, Pikmin 3, Nintendo Land, NSLU, Zelda WW HD, NSMBU.
Great party games: Wii Party U, Mario & Sonic at the Sochi Olympics (both being also a good bundle options in case you need a wii remote). Nintendo Land is the best party game but it's already in the must haves because it goes way beyond that, being great also for single player and co-op.
Best exclusives: Wonderful 101, Lego City Undercover, ZombiU, MH3U
Best 3rd party multiplats: Deus Ex HR Director's Cut, Rayman Legends, Assassin's Creed IV, Need for Speed Most Wanted U

What about Vanilla Wii party games?

Play-Asia has two Wii U High Capacity 2550 mAH batteries, one for $35 and one for $50. What is the difference, does anyone know?

Ive just realized that the Wii U really doesnt need achievements or trophies. This is because of Miiverse. With Miiverse every game basically becomes Nintendo's own social network based on that game.

With being able to take pictures whenever you want and being able to upload them anywhere and post them with what you want to say (limits, mind you), and THEN getting a "Yeah" is an instant psychological booster, much in the same way trophies and all that other bullshit works, but this time you actually get a face to your "approval" because you get a notification from a specific person. It makes you feel special. Like you did something good. A reward.

Its the same exact thing, yet a bit more subtle, technically exquisite in a way and a definite addition to my opinion of which is that I think this system is a real snake in grass.

Black pro controller in stock at Amazon for about 41 dollars. That's the cheapest I've found it. 39.99 if you're willing to wait a few days.

How does the GamePad work over Wifi for everyone? I know that Nintendo promised nothing other than a pad that works in the same room as a WiiU, but I'm still pretty disappointed that my GamePad doesn't work in my bedroom -- which is a mere 10-15 feet away from my WiiU. When I hear about people doing Vita remote play from 25 miles away, it is annoying to think that I can't play my WiiU through even a wall or doorway. I am trying to rectify the issue, but I'm not sure if I should move my WiiU closer to my bedroom, or move the wifi router closer instead.

The gamepad doesn't use Wifi at all so you're using the wrong approach. If anything, physically move the console's position on your entertainment center. If there's a way to keep the signal from going through a wall as much, definitely try that.

Your router has nothing to do with it. Try to eleminate big objects around your Wi U, maybe elevate it.

I'm aiming to get a Wii U sometime next year, I have accepted the console for what it is, but I always remember that Nintendo knows how to make great games.

So - i decided to get the Japanese version of Disney Infinity and... well... not many places are even bothering to stock it.

Not that this is anything new - a fair number of WiiU games haven't been carried by stores and that's not a great sign.

DI is going to die a horrid death here on WiiU - but for those who invest the figures have already been snapped up with some crazy Amazon prices already.

I'm also facing up to the delusion that i'll ever be playing on my WiiU - my son has well and truly annexed it .

haha, I know! xD I was expecting it to be here Thursday which I already thought was fast enough, lol.

Oh I didn't even think about replaying some older games! Is A Link to the Past on Wii-U VC and lets you off-TV play?
Better spend your time with Toki Tori 2+. It's not that those old games aren't worth it, but unless you've never played them I think that the best puzzle adventure ever made, the 2013 GOTY, the best game available on the WiiU and one of the best games ever made may be a better inversion.

$199? Horry sheet.

Time to go visit my brother and some of my friends up in Great Lakes.

Fug it, I'm going there right now.

NEX here I come

All right, I confess: I bought a Wii U during Black Friday. And Wonderful 101 has left me unable to continue playing other games. I'm terrible at action games, but W101 is so incredibly alluring, fast paced and gleeful fun that I start itching to play it when I'm not. Luckily I have my new 3DS XL to play when I'm at work, plenty of time to finish mopping up Etrian Odyssey IV.

Speaking of which, am I crazy for being really interested in what Etrian Odyssey would be like on Wii U? You could even draw the maps with the touchpad...

Yes the pro controller comes with a charging cable. Just bought one last weekend.

I'm literally just about to order a Wii U as a family Christmas present - is it just the WW bundle that doesn't include a proper boxed game? Does the Mario & Luigi bundle have the retail game box or is it just in a paper sleeve?

Any good deals in the UK at the moment or should I just go with Amazon?

I think they will ultimately allow us to do that, of course I expect some limitations so that "freely" would actually not be... so freely afterall. XD
(but still better than current situation)

When I hear about people doing Vita remote play from 25 miles away
It is also capped at 30fps though IIRC.

Cheers, that's the one to go for then I think....

Unless there is a chance of a 3D World bundle appearing in the UK before Christmas???

There is this one for £300.

3D World
NSMB/Luigi
Mario hat
Mario Wiimote+

It's not as good value as the sale price NSMB/Luigi for £200-220, but it beats the normal £250 price.

*Edit - Beaten :(

Once I initially set up my Wii U, I had similar problems, at similar distances(around corners. no blocking partitions, cept for doors). Couldn't play in my bedroom or bathroom without the doors open, and standing right by doorway. Putting the console on the outside of my entertainment center(rather than inside) made a noticeable differencen. I can play in bedroom(and bathroom) with door closed. Only at the farthest points of those rooms will I occasionally get signal breakage.
