Just bought a Wii U. Surprisingly, there were no shortages.

...how? It's wrapped in plastic when you get it out of the box

Are you a porcupine? I dont see how that's possible unless you bought it used or something.

I obviously mean after I unwrapped the plastic. Got some finger prints on it and used a microfiber cloth to wipe it. Hairline scratches (the kind you can only see when you shine a light on it) everywhere now. It even has marks from the two spots where you put the plastic feet on to put it vertical. Not a big deal but I'll never understand why companies use materials that are so delicate - it reminds me of when Apple had the chrome backside on their iPod which scratched itself if you looked at it the wrong way.

I went shopping for christmas presents yesterday, and as I was looking for a 3DS/Wii U-game for my brother I noticed some weird pricing.

For example, AC3 was one of the most expensive Wii U games on display (alongside Injustice: Gods Among Us), while TW101 was cheaper than even NSLU. On the 3DS side of things, Dream Team was the cheapest on display, and ALBW was cheaper than, say, Luigi's Mansion.

To me, the prices seemed rather arbitrary - but I guess I'm biased by personal opinions.

Anyhow, ended up buying TW101. Almost picked up a copy for myself as well, but I think I'm going get 3D World first..

Wow the plastic they used for the Wii U is dreadful. Got like 1000 hairline scratches on it just from taking it out of the box.
I know what you mean. After setting up the system, I wiped it off with a brand new microfibre cloth. The system has a million hairline scratches instantly. You only see them in the glare, but they are there and immediately appeared with just a light wipe of the cloth. To be fair, I had the white basic system earlier, and it had the same problem when I checked it. I just never noticed due to the white colour.

I have a brand new Sony TV. It is glossy black, and it's stand has the exact same 1000 scratches on the stand base after one wipe. It's as though these companies are using plastic made with butter.

That's strange. Here in Canada AC3 is like $20 while TW101 is still $60. Injustice is usually around $30. I would jump on TW101 if it were cheaper than NSLU.

Best Buy and Walmart are offering $25 gift cards with Wii U Mario Bundle starting sunday, i might finally be in, though i want to get it at Target for the red card savings. As soon as i buy a Wii U, some place will have it for 249 again with a free puppy.

Well, in this case NSLU was not very cheap. Around $6 below NSMBU. I have to mention that this was not a dedicated game store, more like a Best Buy-equivalent or something. But still ...

Okay finally updated everything and started playing 3D World and Wind Waker. I love you Nintendo even if do use shitty plastic on your consoles.

Ive just realized that the Wii U really doesnt need achievements or trophies. This is because of Miiverse. With Miiverse every game basically becomes Nintendo's own social network based on that game.

With being able to take pictures whenever you want and being able to upload them anywhere and post them with what you want to say (limits, mind you), and THEN getting a "Yeah" is an instant psychological booster, much in the same way trophies and all that other bullshit works, but this time you actually get a face to your "approval" because you get a notification from a specific person. It makes you feel special. Like you did something good. A reward.

Its the same exact thing, yet a bit more subtle, technically exquisite in a way and a definite addition to my opinion of which is that I think this system is a real snake in grass.

And games like Batman Arkham Origins and Deus EX have traditional achievements that post to Miiverse anyway. We'd just need a way to filter for achievements globally on a user profile page to get to the "compare" feature basically.

IT'S HERE!

Five GOTY-caliber games in one go. You did good!

man, i just... i seriously struggle to understand when people say this. i cannot relate at all.

It does not fit my hands comfortably. :/ Those handle bumps on the backside make my hands cramp after an hour or so. :/ Using a large pillow on my lap (and letting gamepad rest on that pillow) helps though. I'm not sure how am I holding it wrong or if I just have some kind of mutant hands. :B

It's not really a huge issue for me but definately a bummer. I love my Wii U and I recently fell in love with the remote play function. We have our Wii U on our bedroom and connection pretty much reaches everywhere in our home! Yeah, the pros of having a relatively small appartment (64 square meters or 689 square foot). :D

I should have clarified this first before buying the console... but there isn't anyway to it up without a TV or an HDMI compatible monitor is there?

I was hoping the gamepad would come linked with the console and I could just use it right of the box to download the updates and whatnot.

no, you need a tv for set up

What the guy above me said. During the initial set up process, you have to have a TV connected. But then, never again unless you want to play a two-screen game.

I'm going to choose between 2 games tomorrow, pikmin 3 of Deux HR, Pikmin would be my first entry into the series but HR would be a replay, although I was really really enjoyed the game, my.mind is telling me to take the safe option.

Why would you buy a game that you've played already? (Especially at it's 50 dollar asking price)

Grab yourself something new and fresh that you've never played before.

My Wii U is on a UPS truck on the way here(Mario Bundle). Already got games and a couple accessories for it: Nerf Armor (kids), screen protectors (kids), Angry Birds Star Wars (Kids), CoD Ghosts, MH3 and Zombie U.

Have the Nyko Pro controller on the way from Amazon ($13!) and maybe I can enjoy CoD again. The community on 360 are insufferable douchebags.

Pikmin 3 for sure. Take the risk! Pikmin is a great series and worth playing.

Can you please let me know how that controller is when you get it? I'm so tempted to order it because it's SO cheap compared to the Nintendo one.

Also, I really need to get Wonderful 101... It never did go on sale during Black Friday, so I held off getting it. Yeah, I'm cheap, and yeah, I'm sure it's worth full price. :P

Sure. Reviews I have read have actually been really good! It caught my eye because of the offset analog sticks, ala X360.

Yeah, I've read through several reviews. I mean, at that price, even if it isn't that great, it'd probably be worth $13, lol. But I hate wasting money like that if it turns out to be terrible. It got decent reviews, though.

Duuuuude, you need to get on that ASAP. Im towards the end currently and it is right up there on my top 5 games of the year. Simply stunning. I havent played a game that has left me so satisfied since Demons Souls or Ninja Gaiden.

If you friend me up on Miiverse Ill gladly give you pointers if and when you need em

Allow me to disagree and say that even if Wiimote and Nunchuk aren't absolutely necessary they will improve the experience playing the game.

Yes, the combination wii remote + gamepad is the perfect one. But you can still play the game just with the pad without any issues. My girlfriend is playing like this and has platinum in all the missions (except for the new DLC ... yet).
