Just bought a Wii U. Surprisingly, there were no shortages.

I wonder? Is it even possible that they change the branding and packaging of the Wii U
To be the Wii 2u

Would that solve the issue so many are having not realizing it is a new stand alone console?

I get what they were trying to do. U and 2. Rhyming words. A cute play on it being the second wii but the casual gamer let alone the huge % of people that are just a bit slower seem to not get their cute way of marketing this new console. Would it even make a difference now?

I see this point come up on gaf again and again so I'm seriously curious if it had come out as the wii 2u instead from launch would it had mattered? If it was changed now would people get it?

Hi guys, I'm considering buying a PAL Wii U but the room it would be in only has a 1080p monitor that does not support 50hz or interlacing.

You will be perfectly fine. Wii U outputs in 1080p. And 50 hz is since long time not an issue I think.

Hi guys, I'm considering buying a PAL Wii U but the room it would be in only has a 1080p monitor that does not support 50hz or interlacing. Am I going to have problems with Wii stuff? I never bought a Wii because loads of stuff on it could only output in archaic video modes.

I believe the signal is converted to 1080p/60 as well for Wii mode on Wii U. That would explain why Wii games look slightly sharper on Wii U.

Nintendo Land is really fun. I think you're doing a disservice to yourself if you own a Wii U but don't own Nintendo Land.

I wish more games used the camera to show the gamepad user's face though, I found it hilarious watching my bro playing Fzero on TV.
Kind of somewhat related but Zombi U has a really cool little feature where it changes the video of your face into a zombie in real time. You can make faces and stuff and it keeps up the effect really well.

I wasn't going to mess with it because I figured it couldn't be better than the Walking Dead "Dead yourself" app but my kids and I really enjoyed it last night. There's a world of difference between converting a still image and live video.

My youngest had an Alf doll I gave her and we even got it to make a half-assed Alf zombie.

Just had my Wii U long play session with Pikmin 3 for the first time. I could said that I certainly did not regret buying both the system and Pikmin 3! The off-tv play and Wii U UI intergration to the gamepad is really amazing. I did not bother to have it hooked up on TV or my monitor, just the ac adaptor and played in my bed, really astounding. My only problem is that my hands get cramp after playing it for a while. Is there anybody here have cramps problem too?

yes i tend to get hand cramps too but only if im holding the controller above me while i lay in bed with my hands vertically upward at which then the blood from my hands is probably running downward. i dont get cramps if my hands are horizontal and im looking down at the pad.

48+ hours before mine is finally in my grasp....the anticipation is diving me nuts.

lol that's exactly how I played just now.
Do you usually use your index finger when pressing L/R button? It kinda bothers me how I unconciously used middle finger to press L/R button instead of index finger, which put me in alot of problem when playing Pikmin 3 that have massive L/R and ZR/ZL use :/
Maybe I should try to get my hand used to it.

my index fingers rest on zR/zL and i basically use R and L like the bumpers on 360.

having my middle finger placed on zR/zL and my index on R and L seems to cause cramps for me.

So I just read that you can actually hook up an external hard drive to the basic Wii U and have a TB of storage for downloaded games??? That is AWESOME ( I got a Basic Wii U and I was scared of the low storage space) !!!

Yep, that's the suggested method of storing games! Download to your heart's content.

yep. correct me if I'm wrong but I think the max right now is 2TBs across two separate hard drives. make sure it uses an external power supply. if it's powered through the USB port I think you have to get a Y-cable so it will use two ports

Do the gamepads have problems with dead pixels? I'm trying to figure out if its best to get wii u at best buy since they have an easier return/exchange policy, though target will be $15 cheaper with a red card Xo

well any lcd screen is prone to 1 or 2 dead pixels in its life span thats just the hardware but i havent heard anything in the majority of owners to have any.

I have a powered 1TB WD hdd that I will put to great use! Ok, Im officially in love with this console (and its for my 5 year old kid, mind you, but I think that his dad will use it quite often! :D )

Just grabbed a Wii U + Nintendo Land + Ass Creed + Super Mario All-Stars (Wii) for $280. Gonna try to sell Ass Creed and All-Stars and come out of this with a cheap Wii U + Nintendo Land purchase.

Looking forward to 3D World, Pikmin, and WW!

I gotta say, being able to store all my future game purchases on a small compact hard drive is kinda tempting, since I tend to bring my Wii U around with me, and I hate lugging a disc carrier around, and I hate switching discs too.

I'm kind of interested in making a briefcase sort of carrier for the Wii U with space for everything to make it really easy to transport since its small size makes it so convenient, Anyone have experience doing stuff like this (with any sort of console?)

Been checking Craigslist and need some advice. Found 2 deals:

- 32GB Deluxe + NSMBU, ZombiU, and Nintendoland + Classic Controller $280
- 32GB Zelda Bundle + 2 Wii games (tatsunoko vs capcom and smash bros) and a Wiimote controller for $280

Seen pictures of both and both appear to be in solid condition - which one to choose?

Also, the Zelda is a download copy that's already on the system - possible for me to change the email address and still have the game load correctly?

Anyone else unable to turn on the Wii U with the Pro controller and not have to re-synch it every fucking time? Seriously Nintendo, fix this garbage. Holy fuck it's annoying.

With that said, I like the Pro controller more than the DS4. Far more ergonomic and the sticks are awesome. And holy crap at the battery life. 10 times longer than the DS4. Nintendo wizards at work.

You play? How is the community? I just want less jerky than the X360 community

It's COD. The jerks gravitate to the game. On Wii U you're less likely to hear them due to the microphone situation, which is a bonus. The biggest difference though is framerate. 360 is still tops.

i would say the nsmbu one. wwhd is only $50 at retail.

I'm buying a WiiU on friday after I'm done writing all my finals.. I already know what bundle I'm getting. Which is the mario and luigi bundle if I can find it. I will also buy super mario 3d world and maybe sonic lost world. Do I need to buy an extra wii remote because I don't have the motion plus wii remotes or the motion plus accessory on any of the wii remotes I own.I may use a Wii remote for some Wii or WiiU games. What other acessories besides the screen protectors, cleaner and etc do I need to buy.I may also buy an e-shop card. Can I also update the WiiU using it's off-screen function since I can not really use the Tv I play on usually for the next couple of weeks.

Honestly, it wouldn't be a bad idea to future-proof yourself at this point in time by going the Motion Plus Route; might as well assume every new game requires it and not have to worry down the line. Nintendo right now is selling a combo pak with a Wii Remote Plus and a Nunchuck for the price of just a nunchuck through their refurb section. Might not be a bad idea.

I highly doubt my parents will let me use their credit card to buy things online. And that link does not work.

You don't need to buy any motion plus wiimotes, the old ones work fine for most games. Might want to consider buying the Nintendo Land and M+ Wiimote bundle. I think the only time I ever needed a M+ wiimote was for metroid blast in Nintendo Land. And everything, from stting up the internet connection, browsing the e-shop to updating the system can be done on the Pad.

How do you sync it?

Owning a WiiU for a few days now, I couldn't be happier. Awesome system. But one thing bothers me: Is there a way to just browse _all_ avaible games in the Shop? All I can find is top games etc.

How do you sync it?

If you turn on the console using the Pro Controller it forces you to go to the gamepad and go through the re-synch process (click Home on the gamepad, controller options, synch). Only way around this is to always turn on the Wii U with the gamepad. It's a pretty dumb oversight on Nintendo's part. There's no doubt that the console is built squarely around always using the gamepad, but they should at least let you turn on the console and select a game to play with the pro controller without needing to touch the gamepad. shrug

I'm pretty sure if you press the search magnifying glass (top right) with nothing in the text field you can then set up filters and view all of the content on the eshop.

Hmm, don't remember that happening on my Wii U.

This has never happened to me. Heck, I literally just booted up my U with my Pro Controller and launched a game with just it, didn't even touch the gamepad. Try forgetting all synced devices in settings and start form scratch. It's called "Delete all Wii Remote Pairings", but it applies to all controllers. After that is done, should it still give you trouble, you may want to find out if your Pro Controller is legit.

That's what i thought. Menu syncing is just for one session. To sync it permanently use the sync buttons.

no oversight here.

Just commenting to say that the Wii U is doing very well right now at all major online retailers. Amazon is an outlier due to overprice, though still relatively good.

That's not true at all. You can synch the controller with the physical buttons the first time as I did, and if you then start the console with the pro controller again, it screws up and forces you to resynch.

*edit* Now that I think about it, there was a session of the Amazon app in between me synching with the physical buttons and using the menu to synch. Amazon appeared to screw up the Pro in a major way.

I'll resynch with the physical buttons and see how it goes.

Did you try reseting the pairings in settings?

OK, went through all of it again. Has nothing to do with Amazon. I turn on the Wii U via the gamepad. Then I hit the red button on the Wii U, it prompts me to hit the red button on my Pro. I do that and the synch is complete and working. I can now turn off the Gamepad screen and play a game with the Pro. I turn off the Wii U with the Pro, and then turn it back on using the Pro and the Pro then is messed up. The Cursor (finger/hand) constantly pulls to the left of the screen, and the only way to address this is to go into the gamepad and pair the controller yet again. I see no way around this.

Were you touching the sticks while booting up the system? If you were, try again without touching them to see if that solves the issue. Remember that at any time, you can press and hold A/B/+/- for 5 seconds to reset the neutral stick position on your controller. As a last measure, are you sure you controller is legit? Fake controllers look like the real deal, but they just don't stack up; they can have notoriously shoddy performance.

Wasn't touching the sticks. And it happens every single time, so it's definitely an issue with the Wii U. Controller is legit and works perfectly once I go through the pairing sequence again. Also, if I start the Wii U using the gamepad, when I turn the Pro on, it doesn't need to be paired again. The issue only comes into play when the console is turned on via the Pro.

they said that the Wii U will support two gamepads, tried to sync two to play mario, but didn't work. I assume either they lied, or will hopefully implement it in the future.
