2013 High-Res PC Screenshot Thread of Let the JPEG Die Already

Every few months I like to dust this off and see how it has aged. I swear, it looks better every time I play it. They really nailed the realistic lighting. It's really thrilling to rip through the streets in a car in first person.

Forcing ambient occlusion through the drivers too?

That, too. As with most games that don't natively support it, it tends to look a bit glitchy with fog, as evidenced by that character shot. Ignoring that, it's a good effect.
Also, not really a recent discovery on my part, but you can force ambient occlusion in Alpha Protocol using the ME profile's AO compatibility settings.

Which drivers are you using though?

All Driver SSAO in Nvidia's Drivers has been switched to HBAO+ now.

Latest Nvidia WHQL drivers, 331.82. I wasn't aware they had changed their forced AO method though. Are issues the likes of which I'm facing with fog on ME considered an oddity with HBAO+? I really don't know how obvious the benefits are from switching from SSAO to HBAO+ with games that never had an ambient occlusion solution to begin with.

Yeah they switched it with 331.40.

I'd imagine the fog is just an un-intended glitch, perhaps due to the larger sample count HBAO+ has over the old SSAO.

You may feel like trying different AO Flags to see if you can find one that doesn't cause the fog issue.

I've been able to find the following flags for near perfect AO without issue so far

Saint's Row 2 - 0x00000003
Shelter - 0x0000002D
Urban Trials Freestyle - 0x0000001A

Half-Life 2 // 1620p / 8x SGSSAA / -1.5 LOD Bias / Highest AO Forced

There doesn't seem to actually be any AO at all here. There has been issues with several games AO not getting applied at all with the existing flags after the HBAO+ change.

Street Fighter IV, CS:GO/Source. You'll still get the performance hit, but no AO.

SFIV:
No AO 341 FPS http://i1.minus.com/iucJNgQvm8j8x.png
AO forced through inspector in drivers after 331.40 160FPS , no AO visible http://i1.minus.com/iBe8xCSBJ0eQ6.png

This is in contrast to prior to the update, the SFIV AO was very strong and visible.

Is the film grain and chromatic aberration done through a mod or through sweetfx? I've been thinking it would be interesting to see Dead Space 1/2 with those effects in motion (although a bit more subtle with the CA lol).

heh, I'm pretty sure it's the DoF I'm using. But SweetFX is on as well. I never really go too deep into the files, I just kind of use whatever I have. It's a bit much in some spots, but since I'm only using it for Screenshots, I don't mind.

Ah, bummer, I figured it was a bit more than SweetFX would be able to manage alone.

I dug up one shot that uses CA. It's not that good image but Dead Space does like the effect. The game looks gorgeous in motion.

K-Putt really loves CA and puts it on all the Dead Space games. Here's one of this shots:

Here's his setup.

Looks like he edits the colors heavily so many you want to disable\edit some shaders. Unless you like it the way it is. Check the comparison shots for before\after sliders.

I had a driver display crash in crysis, couldn't replicate it, most likely a windows issue right? 6 years old. BF4/Metro and Firemark run fine

9 times out of 10, the grain is usually introduced in the "effect.txt." Though some folks build it into the depth of field. So you may need to look around in the "enbeffectprepass.fx" file as well. Which ENB setup are you using?

I think I figured it out... I'm using Far Off 4.0 (Non CoT Compatible) with Mindstalker's DoF Prepass. I see both CA and Grain options in the Prepass, so I'll mess with those. Meanwhile, take these.
