DF Clips Is The High-End PC Experience Really *That* Much Better Than Consoles?

Here is the truth of it that PS5 Pro Fanboys will never admit.

You wanted better than the standard PS5 Pro. You invested hundreds of extra dollars in a More powerful variant of the base edition because you wanted more. The sales of PS5 pro have not been great and even see them on store shelves and that is a rarity for any hot items.

You wanted more, You spend hundreds of extra dollars to get more, and for the most part it didn't deliver. I spent a little more than your PS5 pro but now can play at the fidelity you wish to get. I can run games a 4k and some at 60/120/240fps+. They wanted more but it didn't deliver what they were expecting and it's so under delivering that casuals don't want it.
How much did you spent to build your PC? You say a little more... So i suppose between $800-1000? How much is that little more to run those games at that level?

To routinely get high frame rates in games? Yes. Also, any FPS is next level with a mouse and keyboard.

Graphic fidelity though has for the most part now. So if all you care about is that or resolution, console is fine. PCs are so much more than games too.

But the visuals gap is closing when there is no path tracing or if you're playing on a TV limited by a lower refresh rate than high end monitors.

And age and crappy eye-sight may close the gap too…… Or so I've heard!!! 👀
The biggest difference will be seen when sitting up close to a desk screen.

Mouse and keyboard and mods is all I really care about.

I'd love to pay $400-500 for console level graphics if I had the above available to me, that's not what I care about.

I love spending four times the price for a GPU to play the games at 120fps only for the games to stutter. So i'll dial a few settings back to get it running smooth - I love the customisation of PC after all! - but will still quietly claim superiority even though i'm now running it at console settings.

Thankfully the free online play will save me a bit of the money I wasted. And the multi-tasking of the platform is so cool! In fact, I can even alt tab out of the game to post on GAF while that cheater finishes ruining my match. How cool is that!?

I love the high-end PC gaming experience.

I just recently sold my PS5 because its too week machine for my gaming standarts. I need solid 60fps minimum, and my 2080 and 5800x i can achieve that easily in almost any cases. Of course there are those shitty PC ports, but nobody is forsing you to play them. Its tress free gaming now, no more worries that is the game going to hit that sweet 60.
All that money and they left out spell checker

High framerate it is.. these days when consoles do 60+

yes pc hardware don't matter

Framerate >>>everything.

Try playing a game at 144fps or higher then try playing the same game on consoles at 30-60 fps. Night and day...all with often being able to play with higher settings, raytracing that actually works plus options for frame generation. I think they make a good point that it largely depends on the games you play though. If it's something like COD...I mean I think consoles can play COD at 120 fps. The difference is basically negligible. However if you are playing something like Avowed, which only gets ~60 fps...pc is way better. Same goes for pretty much every Sony game I've played. Granted the majority of those games are on last gen hardware (Death Stranding, TLOU1-2, God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn) but even comparing to the PS5 on games like Forbidden West I would imagine is night and day due to the reported frame rate alone even on the Pro as long as you have mid-to-high end PC.

I have both and I'd say for me it depends on the gaming you're trying to do.

In terms of graphics, configurations, gaming options, peripherals, mods, etc. PC can't be beat. It's that much better.

When it comes to accessibility, price, optimization consoles like the PS5 probably win.

Both sides have their strengths and weakness and appeal to different kind of gamers. I happen to be a gamer that can appreciate both platforms for their strengths so I enjoy playing on both my PS5 Pro and high end PC.

I have to be honest though that with the latest 50 series cards, the price you're paying isn't worth it and you aren't getting graphics on the 5070 that are that much better than the PS5 Pro. The 5090 justifies its costs however by being a monster card but I can't say the same for the rest below the 5080.

Depends, if your into gaming generally than yes, most of my buddies who don't game a lot... if i was to explain to them the differences I'd get with a console and a high end pc in terms of graphics, they really wouldn't be impressed, neither by the visuals either i imagine. For enthusiasts like me and the rest of us, I'm sure we'd spot the differences immediately.

In my personal experience, the higher cost of PC gaming does not make it THAT much better than consoles. I mean, everyone has their price that they are willing to pay to game. And if you purely want a gaming PC to just game on compared to a console, for the price of a high end gaming PC you could get a PS5/Series X plus a good quality tv and a handful of games for the same price and really, only the real hardcore would notice the difference in 60 vs 120+ frames and 4k vs whatever frame rate console is outputting.

So in other words, if you have the cash and you want the best, obviously go the PC route if slightly clearer graphics and consistent higher frame rates matter. If you just wanna fucking play a game, get a console as it will do pretty much the same job as a gaming PC without the worry of stutters in games and the bullshit that comes with windows PC gaming (crashing to desktop being one I experience a little)...

I know a girl with bpd she posts all the time on Facebook just lives in her own little delusional world and nobody bothers her...its ok to live in delusion if you're happy sir 😆 I'll play some ps5pro just for you tonight 😍

I've always been a console player (PS), but this gen just felt really lacking to me in terms of graphics and games. Also the ps5 pro being released before I even felt like it was a new gen got to me.

For me the visual experience of the PS5 and pro is ok and occasionally very well (death stranding 2), but pc is always just smoother and cripser. Just get Geforcenow Ultimate for 1 month and see for yourself. I also very much like the idea that you have a lot more granular control of graphics. Graphics aside, the modding options allone are a big plus for me.

So…

2 days ago I bit the bullet and just went for a 9070XT that I was lucky to get closer to msrp. It will not get me a very high end 5080/5090 level experience, but I will be able to play on higher graphical settings with more fps and customization options.

I had a Series X, a PS5 and a 4090. Honestly my consoles just became paper weights. I eventually sold the series X, I still have the ps5 but ill probably sell it soon too.

I think because Ive always been a PC gamer Im just sensitive to frame rates, resolution, image fidelity whatever.

But its worth it for me to pay that premium to get the best experience. Gaming is my favorite thing, my #1 hobby. I do it almost every day lol. Ill cough up the extra cash to get the best possible day in and day out experience.

Last year I played Space Marine and Dragons Dogma on PC and on console. I mean holy shit, its just a completely different experience. Space Marine 2 in 4k, high res textures, everything maxed running over 100fps without dips in the thick of battle. Its fucking glorious.

It was a choppy, muddy mess on console. But then Im comparing it side by side against a 4090. If someone only ever played the console version without the extra perspective, maybe they wouldnt care.

Plus on PC you get the entire empire building genre that doesnt exist on console. Total War is one of my favorite franchises ever.

BUT... yeah its fuckin pricey lol. I know not everyone wants to drop thousands of dollars on a high end PC... and I totally get that lol. Cant blame them honestly.

But me personally, I dont think I can ever go back to console. Ive seen the light.

So, basically, on paper, of course it is. You can configure your PC experience to whatever you want. Like getting 120+ fps, pathtracing, modding, and even getting pretty close to a console like experience.

But if you prioritize plug and play, and you don't consider many of those pc advantages game changing (I particularly agree with that path tracing and 60+fps are not game changing), then it is not *that* much better. Specially if you're one of those people that thought that new Pokémon game trailer was running on Switch 2, as John said.

So, in short, it depends on the person and what that person values more. Differences of opinion at it again. It's like a human behavioural pattern or something.

I'm looking to comeback to PC gaming soonish (thanks to AMDs new RDNA4 gpus), but I can still see myself playing on my PS5 often (mainly for exclusives and PS plus games).

I completely agree with you.

My only thing for me is when you compare something like Indiana jones on console and then play on a high end pc with everything turned on to the max. It's a whole different ball game.

But, it requires all the correct hardware and displays as well. It's not just the pc. It's the display too.

Solid state Vs liquid state..I mean, I'm a console guy, but this isn't even in question is it. PC is ultimately super versatile. You want max, you go pc, otherwise balance with the consoles. Stupid fuckin question. 😅 just to be clear, I don't give a fuck about PCs at all.

PC is always going to be better than console, regardless of what Sony warriors will tell the world and its uncle over and over and over and over again.

Why? Explain why it is a whole different ball game? You saying that the graphics are what make that game and not the story and gameplay? Cause the game looks great on console, plays exactly the same on console as opposed to PC and has the exact same story! So playing it maxed on a PC which would cost thousands of dollars more is worth it over a console for better graphics that make no difference to story or gameplay? I'm being serious here, cause spending thousands for better graphics is what is crippling this industry at the moment yet if that is truly what people want, then the industry is forever fucked, and Nintendo will not survive...

Like anything in life, if you have the money you can always have a better experience, PC is no different. But it's also subjective, some people are happy eating McDonalds, others aren't, options are good.

who has time to mess around with windows to play games. time is money, every minute saved is worth a lot when you a have family to feed and take care of. So don't care how it looks. I'll stick to consoles thanks.

If we are talking high end I think that really depends on your income and priorities.
Is it better? sure, is it thousands of dollars worth better? I think that will really depend on how much those thousands of dollars will hurt you financially.

To me, mid tier PC vs console is the more relevant comparison. And IMO, assuming you can get a decent GPU at MSRP (lol, I know), it's probably worth it for the extra performance + cheaper games + no paid multiplayer + more customization + better backwards and forwards compatibility + mods and emulators.

I've been a PS gamer since the PS1. Nintendo & Atari prior to that. I switched to PC as my main platform a year ago and enjoy it a lot more today. All my games carry forward and I can crank the settings up with no patch. That's one of the biggest perks. Better graphics, framerates, mods, cheaper games, etc. are awesome too. I also like being able to fine tune all my graphics settings. Steamdeck and cloud saves work wonderfully too.

Consoles still have their place. I have a PS5Pro for exclusives. My PC also cost $2500 so that is not for everyone.

I always love these arguments, the absolute most I ever have to do is update the drivers through Nvidia to simply click and launch a game. The only time I've gotten into trouble is when I'm breaking a game by installing 100 mods which you have to know that is a possibility going in.

I bet when your console has an update you just throw it out the window out of sheer frustration huh?

You don't need to. It's just a double click on shortcut icon. 🤦‍♂️ Meanwhile the loading times wasted for pre PS5 games.... oof!

I mean yeah but you got to pay for it.... then again PS5 Pro is like 1400 bucks in Australia with the disc drive so that high end console experience might not be cheap for much longer. If PS6 is priced in a similar vein i will probably not buy a Sony console again. It's bad enough Nvidia is price gouging but if Sony start to do it then im out.
PS4 Pro was $550 in my country in 2016, the prices these days are getting fucking stupid.

As someone who's been hooking up PC's to tv's since the early 2000's, it never was and never will be better than a well designed console.

Please pc fan boys , was a pc gamer for 10 years, never ending updates, crashes, viruses, performance problems, none stop tweaking to get things working properly, windows updates that break things. Fuck windows and pc gaming.

Outside of performance, it's wild the 4000 and now 5000 series card actually catch fire ( or melt the connection pins) I dig watching Alex from NorthRidge Fix fixing those things
It's strange that a repair shop receive so many faulty cards while most of us don't have any issues 🤔

To be serious, I saw GN estimated a 0.05% to 0.1% connector fault rate. Just to put some perspective to it.

What?? You don't have to reverse engineer drivers?? Mess with every ini/cfg file for every game?? Call MS support after every Windows update??

Never, never have I managed to replicate on PC the pleasant feeling of coming home, sitting on the living room couch, turning on a controller, and starting to play. Never.
playing pc on the couch involves two extra steps:

1. pressing the pc's power button
2. using a wireless keyboard to double click the game's .exe shortcut

top scientists have concluded it can be done

Ultrawide, path tracing, 60+fps, mouse+kb.... yeah.
Cool- so gameplay means nothing and it's ALL about graphics? Cause K B and M is usable to console. As is ultrawide in some cases. Even frame rates can get over 60 in some games. Nintendo sold over 150 Switch units with none of this in almost any of the games released their and was a super success and costs a fraction of what a GPU would cost...

ultrawide, kb/m, "perfect" IQ, 60+fps, etc in some games vs all games is a GIGANTIC difference.

Ultrawide on consoles? In how many games, 1? I can only think of Death Stranding Director's Cut.

That is not necessary if you use UI like Steam Big Picture. Or use the analog stick, DS4/DualSense/Steam Deck track pad to navigate.
yup agreed.

though important to note is setting up a pc is usually way more involving/annoying than a console.
but once its set up properly, playing from a couch is basically the same process as console.
