I could not tell with the low quality trailer but, did he even use his sword? I see the sword sheath behind him but it looked more like he was using martial arts. We gonna see shift system again? hmm, would be happy if the system was closer to Graces.

I was kinda hoping we would get a spell caster main male character for once, but this guy looks interesting though....this announcement has motivated me to re start Xillia.
The hard drive got corrupted and had to reformat, it killed my tales buzz since I was half way done....time to go through those slow downs again.

Holy shit if some told me 3 years ago that Tales will receive confirmation for worldwide release at the same day the game was announced I would call him stupid.

Is it just me or is something a little off with the model's faces? Other than that everything is looking good.

Also Slay is a cool name guys...

Normally I would think a name like Slay is stupid, but I'm not that bothered by it for some reason. Thray or some variation would be cooler but I'm still okay with the alternative.

Why is Slay a bad name again?

Will this have a Graces style battle system or Xillia? The Graces battle system was perfect and even Baba acknowledged it was his favourite. Hope they keep away from TP.

Based on the dodge ability displayed on the trailer it seems to be more like Graces, but we know very little yet.

Do you like Fayt Leingod as a name? Edge Maverick? That name is on a slightly higher level than those names.

Edge Maverick is dumb but I like Fayt Leingod, it sounds cool.

Kohaku means Amber.

While that kinda makes sense, a rough consistency in sound is ideal. I remember when playing Virtue's Last Reward the second time through with Japanese voice acting. Reading Clover but hearing Yotsuba was jarring as anything even if I knew they were the same thing.

If they do Dual Audio for future Tales releases in the West as they've hinted they might, I'd rather avoid the same problem

The game has been confirmed as an open-world. O_O
Wow.

That's actually really impressive. I only hope it doesn't detract from the narrative/character development/character interaction.

Hideo Baba did say that, while he wants to keep Tales to its traditions, Skyrim did interest him. Though he made it sound like a project separate from Tales. I believe this was in an interview where he was addressing worries about Japanese RPGs "Westernizing" themselves.

While I am glad that Hideo Baba is preserving the Tales identity and lineage. I don't mind experimenting more with more non-linear or explorative situations. I like having more side quests and other content. I'm looking forward to exploring this world.

I only hope that an appropriate amount of NPCs go along with the world. Large, open worlds with lots of optional content are great. But only if those large spaces are populated. I don't like it when large spaces in large games are very empty. And most Tales games don't have large distances between NPCs.

Same thing in Ni no Kuni. No one had the same name in English as Japanese besides Oliver.

Honestly I hope it is Slay and they just go all in on the name with hilariously awful puns ie his post battle comment can be something like "you just got slayed" or "i am the slayer"

Edge Maverick is dumb but I like Fayt Leingod, it sounds cool.

That's fine, but it sounds to me like a name that would be considered cool by a 15 year old who doesn't really know any better because it sounds edgy.

Slay sounds too edgy for a name? Is that what you're trying to say? It's not as bad as people are trying to say. At least it isn't Cypher Rage.

Cypher Rage? I haven't heard that one before. lol

You might end up having people who wish to collaborate. Rpgmonkey and/or kayos usually work on Tales threads.

A lot more people than usual for Tales want to make a Tales thread, so I'll just let them handle it amongst themselves this time.

Will this have a Graces style battle system or Xillia? The Graces battle system was perfect and even Baba acknowledged it was his favourite. Hope they keep away from TP.

They're incorporating the more popular and highly-praised aspects of other Tales battle systems.

Graces's combat is really popular so that's probably why the Graces-inspired controls and camera were the first things they chose to show, but there'll probably be something from Xillia in there too.

Wow.

That's actually really impressive. I only hope it doesn't detract from the narrative/character development/character interaction.

They've confirmed larger field areas, not necessarily an open world.

I do hope they're actually making use of the space and not just showing off (again) though.
